Diet pills are one of the safest and most effective ways to treat Obesity. It plays a major role in transforming bulkier bodies into slim ones. With plenty of weight loss products in the market, consumers have as choice to pick up the best weight loss medicine which guarantees them fast and easy weight loss. And sure their choice has been diet pills. Atkins diet is popular and so is the South beach diet, there are herbal weight loss products, supplements, creams and therapies for shedding unwanted weight. But why do people choose diet pills over the others?
Diet pills popular in the drug market
Diet pills is simple to use and experiment. For the obese people who are allergic to exercises diet pills arrive as the best bet to treat obesity. It is not time consuming and above all the results come fast. You will experience rapid weight loss in about 8 to 12 weeks. If you can manage a little walking and control your high calorie food habits, weight loss will be quick and noticeable. Importantly you have to maintain strict healthy food habits even after your diet pill usage. Other wise chances are that you will end up absorbing all the fat or even more of the calories that you had lost. So along with the effective diet pills it's crucial that you alter your lifestyle a bit. Some of the popular diet pills available are Phentermine, Xenical, Adipex, Meridia, Didrex and Bontril. Always consult a doctor before buying weight loss pills. All pills have minor side effects, so meeting a doctor will make you well acquainted with the pill. Also, your health practitioner will be able to choose the right pill for you.
Be careful while buying and using Diet pills
* Fake pills are ruling the world drug market. Buy diet pills from a reputed pharmacy
* Don't over dose. If you do contact a health practitioner immediately
* The pill effect lasts for 8 to 12 weeks. Your doctor will suggest when to stop the pills
* There are chances that you might get addicted to diet pills. But with a doctor's help you can get over it
* Diet pills, exercise and a healthy diet together will give promising weight loss results
But health experts suggest that surgery should be the last option considered. Looking at the risk involved, doctors resort to diet pills to treat an obese patient who is at a risk of various diseases related to the heart and other organs. Drug users sometimes forget the fact that diet pills are suitable only for those who have a BMI level of 30 or above.

Fast Weight Loss - It is easy to lose weight quickly and naturally if you have a systematic weight loss program. Many people failed to lose weight successfully because of the natural tendency to choose easy quick fix programs such as going on drastic diets, popping diet pills or persuaded to buy some exercise gadgets that simply do not work. In my other articles, I have addressed these issues and why such easy quick fix programs simply do not work in the long term and will not repeat them here.
As always, before you attempt to self medicate or try a new health regimen or program we suggest you retain the services of a qualified health care professional.
Weight Loss Supplements - Do They Really Work?
Although most people understand that the only effective way to lose weight is though a combination of diet and exercise, the lure of the "quick fix" or that little pill that can magically melt the pounds away, is hard to resist. According to a survey published in the Journal of the American Medial Association, 7 percent of American adults use non-prescription weight-loss supplements, with the highest percentage being young women who are considered to be obese.
It seems that no matter where you turn, advertisements for weight loss products abound. Grocery stores, health food stores, drugstores - even Wal-Mart - offer shelves full of various herbal and other so-called natural products that are touted as a sure way to loss those extra pounds. Sadly, the only thing that most people lose when they buy these products is their money.
Chromium works in combination with insulin, helping cells to absorb glucose and ultimately release energy. Pundits claim that this factor actually assists in metabolizing fat, and turning the body's sugar into energy. In reality, there is no evidence that chromium has any affect at all on weight loss.
Chromium is found naturally in meat, whole grains, fruits, vegetables and certain oils.
Garcinia Cambogia is derived from a fruit most commonly found in India and Asia. The rind contains hydroxycitric acid, which is similar to citric acid in oranges and grapefruits. The hydroxycitric acid, of HCA for short, is believed to block the conversion of starches and sugar into fats. It is also thought to elevate seratonin levels in the brain, thus suppressing the appetite.
Although there have been some studies that would indicate the effectiveness of this supplement, more research is needed before a definitive conclusion can be made.
Chitosan is actually derived from chitin, a substance that is found in the shells of crustaceans such as crabs, shrimp, and lobsters. Supporters claim that chitosan binds fats in the stomach preventing their digestion and absorption. While chitosan has been shown to decrease the absorption of fat, a person would have to take massive amounts of it for it to be effective in weight loss.
Researcher do believe that chitosan may reduce cholesterol levels, however, and are concentrating on this area of study rather than on the effect of the supplement on weight loss.
Glucomannan comes from the root of the Konnayku plant and contains a great deal of natural fiber. It is thought to absorb toxins, binding them before they are actually absorbed into the bloodstream. As such, it is thought to suppress the appetite, actually expanding in the stomach.
Researchers have found that this supplement may in fact aid in weight reduction, especially among obese patients. This substance is also effective in reducing constipation due to its high fiber content.
Green tea seems to be the most popular of all natural supplements and is being touted as effective in treating everything from obesity to PMS! All-natural green tea contains epigallocatechin gallate, a substance that may indeed help suppress the appetite. But as in with other supplements, a person would have to consume gallons of tea in order to realize any significant weight loss.
Green tea is available both as a drink and in capsule form, and while researchers are still studying its effectiveness in weight control, some doctors will recommend that patients substitute green tea for coffee and soda.
Before embarking on any weight loss program or taking any supplement, it is essential to check with your doctor. These supplements can have side effects, which could be harmful especially when combined with other medications or supplements. Again, there is no substitute for a healthy diet and exercise program, and relying too much on any supplement can lead to disappointment and frustration.

The Whey To Weight Loss (Part I)
Regular readers of my work have come to expect articles about the power of whey proteins to potentaily fight cancer and improve immunity among its many benefits. The ability of whey to fight cancer, improve glutathione levels and immunity, is well documented. Additional research suggests possible medical uses for whey that are quite unexpected and different from whey's traditional role as an immune booster and anti cancer functional food. For example, whey may be able to reduce stress and lower cortisol and increase brain serotonin levels, improve liver function in those suffering from certain forms of hepatitis, reduce blood pressure, as well as other amazing recent discoveries, such as whey's possible effects on weight loss, which is the focus of this article.
Most doctors agree that these supplements do little if anything to help people lose weight. Some warn that certain supplements may be outright dangerous, while others believe that there may be some benefit to taking supplements when combined with diet and exercise. So what's the scoop? Are any of these products beneficial? Here's a look at several of the most popular weight loss supplements currently on the market.
What is whey?
When we talk about whey we are actually referring to a complex milk-based ingredient made up of protein, lactose, fat and minerals. Protein is the best-known component of whey and is made up of many smaller protein subfractions such as: Beta-lactoglobulin, alpha-lactalbumin, immunoglobulins (IgGs), glycomacropeptides, bovine serum albumin (BSA) and minor peptides such as lactoperoxidases, lysozyme and lactoferrin. Each of the subfractions found in whey has its own unique biological properties. Modern filtering technology has improved dramatically in the past decade, allowing companies to separate some of the highly bioactive peptides - such as lactoferrin and lactoperoxidase - from whey. Some of these subfractions are only found in very minute amounts in cow's milk, normally at less than one percent (e.g., lactoferrin, lactoperoxidase, etc.)
The medicinal properties of whey have been known for centuries. For example, an expression from Florence, Italy. Circa 1650, was "Chi vuol viver sano e lesto beve scotta e cena presto" which translates into English as "If you want to live a healthy and active life, drink whey and dine early." Another expression from Italy regarding the benefits of whey (circa 1777) was "Allevato con la scotta il dottore e in bancarotta." Which translates into English "If everyone were raised on whey, doctors would be bankrupt."
Is whey a weight loss functional food?
A few years ago, I might have said no. Now I am not so sure. Although there was a smattering of studies suggesting whey had certain properties that might assist with weight loss, a number of recent studies appear to further support the use of whey as a possible weight loss supplement. Most interesting - at least to nerds like me - the effect appears to be not by a single mechanism, but several. This article will briefly explore a few possible pathways by which whey may assist the dieter.
Human hunger and appetite are regulated by a phenomenally complicated set of overlapping feedback networks, involving a long list of hormones, psychological factors as well as physiological factors, all of which are still being elucidated. It's a very intensive area of research right now, with various pharmaceutical companies looking for that "magic bullet" weight loss breakthrough they can bring to market.
One hormone getting attention by researchers looking for possible solutions to obesity is cholecystokinin (CCK). Several decades ago, researchers found CCK largely responsible for the feeling of fullness or satiety experienced after a meal and partially controls appetite, at least in the short term. Cholecystokinin (CCK) is a small peptide with multiple functions in both the central nervous system and the periphery (via CCK-B and CCK-A receptors respectively). Along with other hormones, such as pancreatic glucagon, bombesin, glucagon-like peptide-1, amide (GLP-1), oxyntomodulin, peptide YY (PYY) and pancreatic polypeptide (PP)., CCK is released by ingested food from the gastrointestinal tract and mediates satiety after meals. Such a list would not be complete without at least making mention of what many researchers consider the "master hormones" in this milieu, which is insulin and leptin. If that's not confusing enough, release of these hormones depends on the concentration and composition of the nutrients ingested.
That is, the type of nutrients (i.e., fat, protein, and carbohydrates) eaten, the amount of each eaten, and composition of the meal, all effect which hormones are released and in what amounts... Needless to say, it's a topic that gets real complicated real fast and the exact roles of all the variables is far from fully understood at this time, though huge strides have been made recently. Whey's effects on food intake. This (finally!) brings us to whey protein. Whey may have some unique effects on food intake via its effects on CCK and other pathways. Many studies have shown that protein is the most satiating macro-nutrient. However, it also appears all proteins may not be created equal in this respect.
For example, two studies using human volunteers compared whey vs. casein (another milk based protein) on appetite, CCK, and other hormones (Hall WL, Millward DJ, Long SJ, Morgan LM.Casein and whey exert different effects on plasma amino acid profiles, gastrointestinal hormone secretion and appetite. Br J Nutr. 2003 Feb;89(2):239-48). The first study found that energy intake from a buffet meal ad libitum was significantly less 90 minutes after a liquid meal containing whey, compared with an equivalent amount of casein given 90 minutes before the volunteers were allowed to eat all they wanted (ad libitum) at the buffet. In the second study, the same whey preload led to a plasma CCK increase of 60 % ( in addition to large increases in glucagon-like peptide [GLP]-1 and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) following the whey preload compared with the casein. Translated, taking whey before people were allowed to eat all they wanted (ad libitum) at a buffet showed a decrease in the amount of calories they ate as well as substantial increases in CCK compared to casein. Subjectively, it was found there was greater satiety followed the whey meal also.
The researchers concluded "These results implicate post-absorptive increases in plasma amino acids together with both CCK and GLP-1 as potential mediators of the increased satiety response to whey and emphasize the importance of considering the impact of protein type on the appetite response to a mixed meal." Several animal studies also find whey appears to have a pronounced effect on CCK and or satiety over other protein sources. It should be noted however that not all studies have found the effect of whey vs. other protein sources on food intake (Bowen J, Noakes M, Clifton P, Jenkins A, Batterham M.Acute effect of dietary proteins on appetite, energy intake and glycemic response in overweight men. Asia Pac J Clin Nutr. 2004;13(Suppl):S64.).
It should also be noted that although studies find protein to be the most satiating of the macro-nutrients, certain protein sources (e.g. egg whites) may actually increase appetite (Anderson GH, Tecimer SN, Shah D, Zafar TA. Protein source, quantity, and time of consumption determine the effect of proteins on short-term food intake in young men. J Nutr. 2004 Nov;134(11):3011-5.), so protein sources appear worth considering when looking to maximize weight loss and suppress appetite. How whey achieves this effect is not fully understood, but research suggests it's due to whey's high glycomacropeptide and alpha-lactalbumin content, as well as its high solubility compared to other proteins, and perhaps it's high percentage of branch chain amino acids (BCAA's). Whey's effects on bodyfat, insulin sensitivity, and fat burning... .
So we have some studies suggesting whey may have some unique effects on hormones involved in satiety and or may reduce energy (calorie) intake of subsequent meals, but do we have studies showing direct effects of whey vs. other proteins on weight loss? In animals at least, whey has looked like a promising supplement for weight loss. Although higher protein diets have been found to improve insulin sensitivity, and may be superior for weight loss (with some debate!) then higher carbohydrate lower protein diets, it's unclear if all proteins have the same effects.
One study compared whey to beef (Damien P. Belobrajdic,, Graeme H. McIntosh, and Julie A. Owens. A High-Whey-Protein Diet Reduces Body Weight Gain and Alters Insulin Sensitivity Relative to Red Meat in Wistar Rats. J. Nutr. 134:1454-1458, June 2004) and found whey reduced body weight and tissue lipid levels and increased insulin sensitivity compared to red meat. Rats were fed a high-fat diet for nine weeks, then switched to a diet containing either whey or beef for an additional six weeks. As has generally been found in other studies, the move to a high dietary protein reduced energy intake (due to the known satiating effects of protein compared to carbs or fat), as well as reductions in visceral and subcutaneous bodyfat. However, the rats getting the whey, there was a 40% reduction in plasma insulin concentrations and increased insulin sensitivity compared to the red meat. Not surprisingly, the researchers concluded "These findings support the conclusions that a high-protein diet reduces energy intake and adiposity and that whey protein is more effective than red meat in reducing body weight gain and increasing insulin sensitivity."
Other studies suggest taking whey before a workout is superior for preserving/gaining lean body mass (LBM) and maintaining fat burning (beta oxidation) during exercise over other foods taken prior to a workout. The study called "A preexercise lactalbumin-enriched whey protein meal preserves lipid oxidation and decreases adiposity in rats" (Am J Physiol Endocrinol Metab 283: E565-E572, 2002.) came to some very interesting conclusions. One thing we have known a long time is the composition of the pre-exercise meal will affect substrate utilization during exercise and thus might affect long-term changes in body weight and composition. That is, depending on what you eat before you workout can dictate what you use for energy (i.e. carbs, fats, and or proteins) which alters what you burn (oxidize) for energy. The researchers took groups of rats and made the poor buggers exercise two hours daily for over five weeks (talk about over training!), either in the fasted state or one hour after they ingested a meal enriched with a simple sugar (glucose), whole milk protein or whey protein.
The results were quite telling. Compared with fasting (no food), the glucose meal increased glucose oxidation and decreased lipid oxidation during and after exercise. Translated, they burned sugar over body fat for their energy source. In contrast, the whole milk protein and whey meals preserved lipid oxidation and increased protein oxidation. Translated, fat burning was maintained and they also used protein as a fuel source. Not surprisingly, the whey meal increased protein oxidation more than the whole milk protein meal, most likely due to the fact that whey is considered a "fast" protein that is absorbed rapidly due to it's high solubility.
As one would expect, by the end of the five weeks, body weight was greater in the glucose, whole milk protein and whey fed rats than in the fasted ones. No shock there. Here is where it gets interesting: In the group getting the glucose or the whole milk protein, the increase in weight was from bodyfat, but in the whey fed group, the increase in weight was from an increase in muscle mass and a decrease in bodyfat!
Only the rats getting the whey before their workout increased muscle mass and decreased their bodyfat. The researchers theorized this was due to whey's ability to rapidly deliver amino acids during exercise. Is this the next big find in sports nutrition or those simply looking to preserve muscle mass loss due to aging?
Hard to say at this time being it was done in rats, but if it turns out to be true in humans (and there is no reason people can't try it now) it would indeed be a breakthrough in the quest to add muscle and lose fat.

It's good news for Americans; more and more obese people are turning to fruits and veggies for slimming down. They have suddenly lost interest in low carbohydrate diets. A recent survey by the American Institute of Cancer Research saw four out of five health conscious people pick salads and fruits to satiate hunger.
The obesity levels in US is fast growing and a diet change among people who are overweight or obese sound good news to the health experts trying to battle Obesity. Many fad diets advertise on TV or the net and win a lot of obese diet planners. Some times they complete the diet program, lose weight and put on almost double the weight they had. Few others leave it half way through. And lots of them get bored eating food low in carbs or high in proteins all the time. With fruits and vegetables, the scope is certainly wider
Do Fruits and Veggies help weight loss?
Hundred percent. You can add a fruit as the snack of the day and thus skip high calorie fried snacks during day time. When you are having lunch, a salad starter would fill you up fast. In this diet you are not restricted to any particular food type but are free to have everything in moderation. What is striking is that salads at the beginning of a meal help you eat less for the main course and fruits before the desserts protect you from overdoing the sweet intake. Not all, both salads and fruits are good for your health and supply nutrients in the form of minerals and vitamins.
While following some diet programs which are based on high proteins or low carbs, you miss out on many nutrients which your body needs. Sometimes you suffer from malnutrition as well. The fruit and vegetable diet has no side effects and adding beans and whole grains to the diet can only make you healthy. They are high in fiber and low in calories. Fruits and veggies give you a feeling of fullness without consuming food high in fat or calories. They also protect you against chronic diseases like cancer.
The Obesity threat
Health organizations worldwide are taking drastic steps to control the obesity epidemic. Childhood obesity is another budding tension for the health experts. Parents should encourage the children to consume more salads and fruits in their day to day diet. Children should not survive on high fat cheesy burgers and shakes. It is good to see that certain burger joints are taking an extra effort to add low fat burgers and food to the menus. Isn't it time we got together and made a difference by encouraging low calorie food at home and by helping children get addicted to the healthy fruits and salads.

Try going without added salt for just four weeks. This is an experiment I experienced first hand, as did my wife, and so do many of my clients. The first few weeks are not fun, because everything is so dull. Then, just like a smoker who has stopped sucking on smoke for a few weeks, something amazing happens. Slowly but surely, your taste will return. Suddenly, you become aware of the subtle flavors in vegetables, fruits, grains, meats, and other foods that just tasted like salt and seasoning before. It's an amazing experience, if you let it happen.

This is part 3 of the 4-part "Seven Keys to Permanent Weight Loss Success" series.
Key #4: Make it a lifestyle
You've heard this one so much you probably don't even pay attention to it anymore. The idea of a lifestyle change has become a cliché. Sure, we all want to avoid the yo-yo diet plan and make something permanent, but few people really take the effort to learn how.
Are you one of those people dead-set in making a difference, so you strap on your shoes, load your refrigerator with nothing but chicken and broccoli, then put on your blinders and focus 110% for twelve weeks until you reach your goal?
What happens after that?
Most people celebrate. They eat a lot. They take a break from training. A few weeks later, they are back to square one. Instead of feeling great, they talk about how great it felt. Instead of looking terrific, they tell old stories like grandfathers in rocking chairs, "I remember when I could see my shoes and not my belly when I'd look down at my feet."
It's great to have focus and to take on the challenge and really pursue it. But have you stopped to think about what happens after?
Are you training and dieting for a few weeks, or for life?
Let me ask you this … if it's for life, can you imagine yourself eating the way you are eating from now until you are six feet under with a bouquet of flowers above your head? If not, it's time to change.
You see, living healthy doesn't have to be about diets and horrendous workouts. It can be about fun. I still recall the first time I set down the barbell and put on a pair of running shoes. Several people wrote me, horrified at the thought of how my muscles would wilt and wither from the rigors of training for a half marathon. How could I give up the admirable iron game for some lousy 13-mile run through the woods? What was I thinking?
The truth is, I'm beyond the need to compare my self-worth to the depth of my abdominal cuts or the girth of my biceps. I'm in this for life, and that means having fun. While I enjoy grabbing rusty dumbbells and slinging them around as I grunt, groan, and sweat like I'm taking an indoor shower, there's more to life than weight-lifting. That's why I like to ski, jog, and do other activities as well. I make it fun. And you know what? I can do fun. I don't have to always have a workout sheet and a pen to stay in shape. Sometimes all I need is a good pair of shoes, two hours of free time, and the good green earth to make my rounds.
The same is true for nutrition. Live a little. Experiment with healthy recipes. Understand what "better bad choices" and "portion control" means. If I want some cheesecake, I might order a slice and split it with my wife and daughter. You'll catch me eating a slice of pizza on occasion, and even sipping on a glass of red wine. The key is moderation. I don't have to count the days until my diet is over because I'm focused on the process, not the end result. Learn to get out of the finish line and into the race. You'll enjoy it more.
Key #5: Listen to your body
"Jeremy, I can't finish my cardio workouts because I get dizzy and nauseous when I do them first thing in the morning, but I can't eat food because they said I have to have an empty stomach to burn fat."
"Jeremy, I know I need a ton of protein, but I just can't seem to get it down. I get ill eating so much protein. How will I ever build muscle?"
These questions are common, because instead of listening to their body, many people are giving up their power by following the current trend or diet program. Your body has built-in mechanisms that can teach you a lot about what you are doing and if it is working. A healthy person knows when it is time to eat, because they get hungry. A healthy person also knows whether or not they require protein. These instincts are built in, but the S.A.D. diet (Standard American Diet) is so loaded with processed food that has no counterpart in nature, it's no wonder the signal is getting lost.
What happens when you are next to a busy intersection with a constant buzz of cars going by? Eventually, you will tune out the noise. It becomes part of the background. If you are standing next to a deserted road, however, the occasional car whizzing by will attract your attention. You'll be "in tune."
The typical diet is so loaded with salt that it completely nullifies your sense of taste. When you try to eat something that is low salt or salt-free, it tastes bland and disgusting. You reach immediately for the salt shaker or at least grab a bottle of Mrs. Dash and cover it with herbs and spices.
By removing the additives, preservatives, refined sugars, processed grains, and other artificial components of your diet, you can start to sense your needs for protein and carbohydrates as well. I don't follow the traditional "slab of meat at every meal" bodybuilder diet. I know it's popular, but I choose to listen to my body.
I've force fed pounds of protein and the end result might be a little more muscle mass, but it also leaves me staring at a block of steak wishing I was somewhere else and hoping I never have to taste a bite of meat ever again. That's not living … it's dieting, and I'd rather live healthy than diet miserably. So, I stay in tune. If I crave protein, I eat it. If not, I might just have a vegetarian dish. I listen to my body. If you have the most energy on an empty stomach first thing in the morning, go for it. If you're one of those who feels dizzy and weak, then listen to your body. Stop worrying about what "they" say about an empty stomach. Instead, get some food, let it digest, and then get to work. Whatever fat-burning benefit you might have from training on empty will be negated by your lack of energy. Add some fuel and then push down on the accelerator and go full throttle. In the end, it's calories that are king, not whether or not you time the meal before or after your workout.
If you thrive on high protein and lower carbohydrates, that's great. Personally, I get extremely irritable when I reduce my carbohydrates and get sick of eating protein when I raise my protein intake. So instead of giving up my power to the almighty diet, I listen to my body. I figure it knows what it wants. Of course, the trend is that you have to cut carbohydrates to lean down, so I made certain I lost 35 pounds and cut down to 7% body fat while eating 300 grams of carbohydrates and 90 grams of protein per day to prove that, first, you can lose fat even with carbohydrates in your system, and second, it doesn't take pounds of meat and tubs of protein powder to maintain a muscular physique. The proof is in the pudding - you can see my menus and my progress here:
Bottom line, get comfortable with you. Stop ignoring your body. Listen to it. If you find that your "splurge meals" are making you sick, think about the message your body is giving you and decide if you are going to continue it week after week, or if it's time to take off the training wheels and grow up. You don't have to have pizza every week to enjoy life.
