Weight Loss Diary 13

From 25 thru 1 April.

This weeks weight loss diary could be the penultimate because after my Friday weigh-in I am down to 182.5 pounds (90.3 kilograms), just 2.5 pounds above my target figure. Last week I reported 186 pounds (92 kilo's) but the scales were just below that figure so I guess I have shed a little over 3 pounds this week. That is way too much to lose in one week. A general target rule is1 pound each week if you want to keep it off, 3 is much too high.

The fact that I have become conscious of serving size is one of many that will come into the reckoning when we do the final debrief.

So how was 3 pounds shed in just a week?

I think I told you a couple of week's back that I was suffering from a cold and that is still with me. Due to a really busy business schedule it has been necessary to work through it even though my food intake has been low because I just feel crook. This is obviously a factor and next week it wouldn't be surprising if the scales go up again.


Looking back over the week it has been a time when eating hasn't been fun and fluids have formed the major part of my diet. On the other side of the equation I haven't exercised as rigorously as normal and did miss one complete exercise session.


The most pleasing aspect of my program to date is that after just a few weeks my body has accepted the fact that smaller portions are fine. If I feel hungry between meals a piece of fruit or a raw carrot is ample and that it is fine to leave food on the plate. Ability to think is not impaired by eating less and improved aerobic fitness is great because suddenly walking and exercise is a fun, and challenging, thing.


If asked, "what is the best thing to come out of the program to date?" It is difficult to pick one individual item. However, the only thing I have lost is weight, there are for more that have been gained that we will go into in the final article. For now I am happy that my focus on serving size is the major thing that will keep weight from coming back.

I am too tired. In the morning, I would wake up with very good intentions. I would tell myself that after I finish work, that I would go for a short jog. I would then do some fitness work at home such as using the dumb bell weights which I had bought many months ago. I would also try a few press ups and also start watching what I was eating. I was very aware that my diet included many of those fatty foods which the experts advice people to avoid.


I do not have enough time. I would often delay any fitness work as I always seemed to have something else to do which I believed were more important. In reality they were not and they could have easily have been completed after my hours exercise. Yet again it was just a way of me getting out of something which did not seem that fun.


It could be dangerous. Going back to my idea of jogging, I then had the bright idea that it could actually be quite risky. What if I come across a madman with a knife? This would have been quite a good excuse if I was running when it was dark, for example early in the morning or late at night. This however was not the case, I had been thinking of jogging at around half past four in the afternoon. I eventually after many years decided to stop making up these excuses. I had to be determined to not only start up a fitness regime but to stick to it. It was not easy at all but after quite a long time I reached a weight which I was happy with.

I would tell myself that if I start exercising today, I may well do myself more damage than good. I had better for health reasons, wait until my body feels better. Of course the aches and pains were not half as bad as I was making out.

So congratulations! You've lost some weight! Now, how do you keep it off?

When you've spent weeks or even months striving and sacrificing, you don't want to have your spirits sink as you see the scale start to go up. For most of us, regardless of our weight loss method, weight regain is a real possibility. But is it inevitable?


Follow these five sure tricks, and your scale will stay put:

If you gain a pound, lose it! People who are successful at maintaining a weight loss weigh themselves at least twice a week. Pick regular times of day, and regular days of the week, to weigh and keep a chart. If you find you're up a pound or two, follow a healthy and structured food plan until the extra weight comes off again.


Have planned snacks instead of grazing.

To combat rampant, spontaneous snacking, plan a couple of balanced snacks every day that you can measure out and enjoy. Be sure to include some protein and complex carbohydrates in your snack. If you feed yourself a bit more frequently, you will be less likely to graze mindlessly.


Balance your treats with healthy choices.

How To Lose Weight Even If You Can't Stick To Any Weight Loss Program


Maybe you're like me and can't stick with a diet for any length of time. I don't know how much time and money I spent looking for something that works. I either couldn't get going with the diet or I spoiled a good run with a binge, usually more than one because I felt guilty about my failure. Supplements didn't work because they either were supposed to reduce my appetite but I ate even if I wasn't hungry. Or they were supposed to increase my metabolism but I would have had to be burn like a jet engine to get rid of the extra food I kept eating.


Was I weak, undisciplined, or lazy? At times I thought so (why else would I have a problem), but that's not the way the world saw me. I was a work horse, pushing myself hard through illness or fatigue. I was the reliable rock at work. I could negotiate multi-million dollar deals. I was considered courageous in the face of adversity. And I was a regular gym member. Yet for a long while, food and body issues ruled my life. I now know it's because I needed the plunge into food, to deal with stress and emotional tension of any kind. My irresistible food cravings were a well-worn survival pattern that couldn't be reversed with either willpower, or rational insights about my "issues".


Then I started studying bio-energetics, how we have energy systems that govern our chemistry, and therefore our emotions. That explained why even therapy couldn't make a dent in my behavior. Having insights about why I overate, didn't dissolve the long-established "energy imprint" that pushed me to hide from stress and tension in food. And knowing about my patterns wasn't enough to break the chain, because when I had the urge to eat, it wasn't my rational thought process that was engaged, but my primitive instinctual self. So if diets didn't work and a heavy workout schedule wasn't enough to compensate for my overeating, what was the solution?


Since I couldn't fight my food cravings, I had to eliminate them. I had to learn how to dissolve my tension, both the emotion itself and the energy pattern behind it. How? I use a combination of tools including EFT and Releasing. If you don't know these, you can get results by just being more aware of the tension, and focussing on your intent to let it go. Life happens and stress is building as the world is accelerating. We can't isolate ourselves from it. But we can become masters at defusing its effects. I also needed to change my belief that I was doomed to either overeat or be miserable fighting the urges to indulge. And that's something else that couldn't be done on a rational thought level.


Maybe some people can just wish away their unproductive beliefs; I couldn't. I had to use a particular form of guided visualization. And I had to do it after I had dissolved the "energy knots" that were choking me, or the message didn't sink in. Then weight loss came as a natural consequence of healthy behavior. And I didn't need to be afraid of food anymore. Life is too precious to waste on stale Twinkies.
