I'm sure you're as sick & tired of all the wonder diets, the new fads, the magic pills, as I am. Every time we turn on the tellie, or pick up a magazine, we're bombarded with another new- fangled diet plan. But do they really work? What is the real secret to succesful weight loss - and not just losing it, but keeping it off? I'm going to share with you the simplist of facts, which in all honesty, IS the secret we have all been looking for and never realised it was right in front of us.

And, if you're like me, you don't want to miss out on your favourite foods, or eat rabbit food all day long, or worse yet, feel hungry or lag energy all day.

The secret to successful weight loss is this:-

Eat less calories than you burn!

Sounds simple enough doesn't it. Well, if it was THAT simple, I'm sure we wouldn't have the weight problems we are seeing all around the world today. We all know of people who skip meals, or eat only 'rabbit' food for weeks on end or try any number of methods to reduce their calorie intake with no real weight loss results to show for their efforts. What about the ones who end up so run down and exhausted from extensive exercise programs and restricted diets, that it's a wonder they can still get out of bed in the mornings. What are they missing? Is there more to the 'secret'? No! The 'secret' or 'formula' is really the only path to successful long term weight loss & maintenance - but there is more to our bodies than just blood, sweat & tears!

 

Have you ever taken the time to think about all the amazing functions our bodies carry out on a daily basis, without any programing or input from us? Our bodies are complex machines in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and we need to know the right types of calories to consume so we can fuel all the essential services our bodies perform everyday! Not to mention, the busy lifestyles we all lead and need a bounty of energy for.

 

I'm sure there isn't one person on the planet who would put water in the fuel tank of their car and expect it to run, let alone run at its peak performance, yet, many of us feed our bodies empty calories and expect it to function day in and day out without a hitch. So, what we need to look at is eating less calories a day than our bodies need so it will draw on some of our 'fat' reserves AND to consume the right types of calories to fuel our bodies and get optimal performance every day.

 

What are the right types of foods to choose then? Just before I get into that, I want to share a piece of information with you which will help emphasis why it is so important to eat the right types of foods and not just eat less calories every day. Our body fat takes zero calories to maintain regardless of what activity you are pursuing YET our lean muscle takes 32 calories per kilo just to exist while your sitting at your desk! So, with this bit of info under our belts, pardon the pun, we better understand the importance of chosing the right sorts of food to enhance and build our lean muscle and not the types of foods that will add to our ever increasing percentage of body fat!

 

Protein builds lean muscle and is needed by virtually every cell in the body and is a fantastic weight control food. However, we need to source our protein not just from animal sources, but from plants as well. Soy protein is an excellent source of protein, without the added saturated fats AND higher calories associated with animal protein. Soy also helps maintain and improve our heart health. Protein also is responsible for a chemical being released in the brain that literally blocks the 'carb' cravings which when acted upon can and does lead to weight gain.

 

To put this information into practice can often be the real challenge. On average a woman needs 100g protein a day and men need 150g. Here's the challenge - how to consume enough protein without too many calories. Research tells us that pesonalised weight loss programs coupled with ongoing support are the most successful with the 'go-it-alone' approach is the least successful. {{ The trick is to find a program that offers you everything...

 

One that focuses on consuming a high enough protein intake (preferably soy), is low in calories AND comes with some form of support and coaching. Also aim to find a program that fits in with your life as the better it fits, the easier it is and the more likely you are of sticking with it. In 2000, an estimated 30.5 percent of adults were obese (i.e., had a body mass index [BMI] greater than 30 kg per [m.sup.2]) (1) and 15.5 percent of adolescents were overweight (BMI of 25 to 30 kg per [m.sup.2]). (2) Given the medical and psychosocial impact of being overweight, as well as the difficulty in making sustained improvements in diet and physical activity, it is not surprising that patients often turn to over-the-counter (OTC) proprietary weight-loss products containing single or multiple dietary supplements (e.g., herbs, vitamins, minerals, amino acids).

 

Bcaas

Branched Chain Amino Acids, are essential amino acids, which means that the body by itself cannot produce them so sufficient quantities must be obtained from supplementation. The three Bcaas (Valine, Leucine, and Isoleucine) make up approximately 70 percent of the amino acids in the body. Bcaas are unique in that they are utilized directly by muscle tissue during long workouts. Diet and Exercising for Weight Loss

Obesity is now being called an epidemic in the health community. In fact, it will soon be the leading cause of preventable death in the United States, even ahead of cigarette smoking. Obesity leads to type two diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or stroke and even an increased risk of cancer. With all of these health risks, as well as the general improvement in the quality of life that can occur, losing weight is one of the best things that you can do for yourself.

 

No matter what we would like to believe, there simply isn't a magic solution to losing weight. The body will shed excess fat when it needs more calories to function through the demands you place on it in a given day than the amount of calories that you feed it. It's that simple. So, in order to lose weight, you need to decrease the number of calories that you eat as well as increase the amount that you burn.

 

There is a wide range of options to choose from when looking for a weight loss program. All of them often spend a lot of time explaining what to eat, in what amounts and even at what times or in what combinations. But few of them emphasize the importance of exercise - not just for losing weight, but for your general health and wellbeing.

 

Exercise is vital when trying to lose weight for several reasons:

* First, as you start to eat less, your metabolism will slow down somewhat. Exercising helps to elevate your metabolism back to an efficient level.

* Second, as mentioned, exercise burns more calories so that you can lose weight faster and stay motivated in your efforts.

* Third, exercise actually releases endorphins, chemicals that keep your mood elevated.

 

Exercise doesn't have to mean spending hours at the gym or straining through exhausting workouts. In fact, in order for you to stick with it on the long run, exercising should be something that you enjoy. Start by increasing your activity level in an overall way. Take the stairs when you can. Park further from the mall door when you go shopping. Go for a walk in the park or through a neighborhood you love and bring a dog or a friend along for company. Take dance or martial arts lessons.

 

Once you become more active in general, you'll find it easier and more natural to move into regular exercise. Which you'll need to do eventually in order to get regular, noticeable health benefits. You need to raise your heart rate to a fat burning level and keep it there for at least 20 minutes, 3 times or more a week. However, if you don't want to go to a gym, there are other options. Videos and DVDs are now available in all kinds of exercise types. That way you can change your routine whenever you want so that you don't get bored with what you're doing. Try a range of aerobics, kickboxing, yoga, or pretty much any activity you want right in the comfort of your own home.

 

If you have physical limitations that would keep you off from exercising, you can still find a way to increase your activity level. Water aerobics is a wonderful option for those who have joint problems or limited mobility because it relieves the pressure on your body that your weight provides. But you still get the resistance to challenge your muscles from the water. There are even classes and videos available that let you exercise in a seated position.

 

Whatever kind of exercise you choose, it's important to stay motivated and keep it fun. Try gathering a group together to make it a social event. Or get a pedometer, a device that tracks how far you walk, and see how many miles you can walk a week. Make a competition amongst your friends or family members and treat the winner with something special (not food related!). Make the experience of exercising something that you look forward to, and it will soon become a regular part of your healthier lifestyle.

Using Calories For Weight Loss

 

Ever wondered what a calorie is? The definition of a calorie is "the amount of energy, or heat it takes to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water to1 degree Celsius". A calorie is a unit of energy that is associated with food and drink and is a measure of the energy, or heat, that food produces as your body uses it as fuel. The first step in counting calories for your personal weight loss is to calculate how many calories you burn in a day (your total daily energy expenditure), this is the total number of calories that your body expends in 24 hours, including all activities.

 

This is known as your maintenance level and will be the reference point (number of calories) from which to start your dieting. The average calorie maintenance level for women in the United States is approx 2000 per day and the average for men is approx 2500 per day. These are only basic averages and are usually much higher for athletes or active individuals. A quick and easy method to find out how many calories you require per day for weight loss and maintenance is to calculate a calorie value with a multiplier as set out below.

 

Fat loss = multiply your bodyweight in pounds with 12 calories (12 x lb).

Maintenance = multiply your bodyweight in pounds with 15 calories (15 x lb).

 

This is a very easy method to estimate your daily caloric requirements, but it has its drawbacks as it doesn't take into account your particular activity levels or body fat levels. Despite this it will give you a good estimated figure that you can work with. The maintenance figure that you get is the amount of calories that you need to consume to stay at your current weight. To lose weight your calorie intake must be lower than the calories you burn. In order to lose one pound of fat per week, you must reduce your weekly calorie intake by 3,500 calories, which works out at five hundred calories per day. This can be done by reducing your calories by 500 or combining a diet with physical activity.

 

Assess Your Dietary Needs And Lifestyle. Awareness is the key, so take some time to learn about your specific dietary needs (caloric intake) and daily energy requirements for example. We're talking a basic understanding here, and not having to go into any great detail.

 

The bottom line is to balance your caloric intake with the amount of calories that you are burning, that's the secret to successful dieting and weight maintenance. Becoming more conscious of counting calories in your everyday eating regime is imperative if you are trying to lose weight. Studies have shown that men and women "underestimate" their daily calorie consumption by 500 to almost 1000 calories. You can get a truer picture by keeping a seven-day eating plan of what you typically eat and drink during the day.

 

At the end of each days eating, add up the total amount of calories consumed and write them down on to the eating plan. At the end of the seven days, add the total calories for the whole week and then divide by seven, you now have your daily calorie intake. Using a calorie calculator can make counting calories easier - you can total how many calories you will need for your daily activities to give you more control over how many calories you should include in your daily diet. Another technique for low calorie eating is to watch your fat intake as this has the most calories.

 

Moderation is always important when you are counting calories, severely restricting calories, causes the body to lower its metabolic rate, which reduces its ability to burn fat. At the same time, hunger signals increase and you quickly start to crave high-energy foods loaded with fats and sugar, the same foods you are trying to do without. This is because when you return to normal eating habits, the drop in metabolic rate caused by the restriction in calories means that your old eating habits actually represent excess in calories. Not only do you regain the fat stores just lost, but also you may even gain a bit extra.

 

"Dieting by counting calories means that all foods are allowed, nothing is forbidden as long as the calories consumed don't go over your daily calorie allowance" Counting calories can also be flexible enough to accommodate most busy lifestyles. Some food for thought isn't it; health professionals agree that healthy eating which includes counting calories and a low fat diet are essential for long-term healthy weight loss. The way to lose body fat and maintain muscle is to have a food program for life. Quality food and more energy output are the basics you'll need to go for.

Successful Weight Loss In Five Easy Steps

If you happen to be among the millions of people who are weight impaired, you may have already considered, or even tried many alternatives for losing weight, and you may still be seeking that one magic "remedy". Sadly, there are no magic remedies, diet pills, or supplements for losing weight. A good plan for losing weight should not try to radically change your eating behavior. The plan should adapt to your daily activities and eating habits, and of course any good plan should incorporate the benefits of good nutrition, convenience,and above all, practicality.

The bottom line is that we are all very busy people without a lot of time to spare. We're not very likely to turn our busy lifestyles upside down to follow some restrictive plan for losing weight.

 

Maybe a few will work for a short period of time, but the facts don't lie. Although the "crash" weight loss diets may work for a short while, most of us will find that before long the pounds will start to begin to creep back on. After all, we are not going give-up eating at fast food and sit-down restaurants when we need a quick meal or snack, and we are unlikely to stop eating with business associates, good friends and family.

 

It is very difficult therefore,(if not impossible)to follow dieting guidelines on special meal occasions such as these! We are not going to completely eliminate the foods we love and crave, and we're most definitely not going to waste precious time preparing special dietary meals from "scratch" every day! Therefore it is very important to know that you don't have to stop doing any of the above to lose weight. You can look and feel like a million bucks, take years off your appearance and have the energy and vitality to accomplish your dreams, by following a few simple guidelines.

Some of the greatest accomplishments in life begin by taking one small step at a time. When we are challenged to think deeply, encouraged by others to succeed, and ultimately inspired to take action, great things start to happen! If you have important weight loss goals you are not achieving,try to spend less time worrying about all the possible "causes" and start concentrating on how you can make progress. This is one of the keys to moving forward and a simple, but powerful tool for success.

 

Seek Advice From Friends And Trusted Authorities.

Don't believe everything you hear! There are thousands of diet "scams" on the market. When you find a trusted source, ask as many questions as you can about diet and exercise. Find out what has worked for others. But always be on-guard for the "quick fix" approach...it won't work in the majority of cases.

 

Start Creating A System Of Support.

About 85% of our "happiness" and well-being is determined by the quality of our relationships with other people. Loving, caring relationships and a network of friends, family, and colleagues lowers stress, increases longevity, and helps us to accomplish our goals in life (including losing weight).

 

We are social creatures and we do our best when we have friends to cheer us on, offer support, give advice, and hold us accountable when necessary. This makes it easy for us to succeed. So, surround yourself with people, tools and activities that make it more likely for you to succeed than to fail! Arrange your living environment and social situations so that every thing around you pulls your forward, instead of possibly leaving you totally de-motivated.
