Actually, I was reading about fad diet and suddenly I received a message in my mail "Lose 20 Pounds in 10 Days!" So I thought I should write some more on quick weight loss diet plans and how they're intended to fail miserably. I have already written a lot on such topics and I think you should read this article because they are flawed at the grass root level! along with this article to learn exactly what's wrong with quick diets.

There are a few facts that I want to discuss before getting into the specific details of how she lost 10 pounds in 10 days and more specifically, even after losing 20 pounds, how she has more fat.

1.Temporary weight loss will never teach to anyone how to maintain her proper weight. 2.Protein shakes are an unhealthy way to trick yourself into eating fewer calories. 3.It is unlikely that any person could lose 20 pounds of fat in 10 days. A large part of this loss is water and depleted muscle mass, not fat. Now let me explain how you get more fat (and of course unhealthy) even after losing 10 to 30 pounds with a quick fad diet.

Let's assume, for an illustration, that a normally an active person with a body composition diets of 1300 calories a day and walks 10 miles, as normal one did. With a total energy output of 2800 calories (ENERGY OUT), and a calorie intake of 1300 (ENERGY IN), the woman's daily net calorie intake will be -1500 calories. In other words, she will have burnt 1500 calories more than she ate, and she will have lost 1500 calories worth of body fat in one day.

There are 3500 calories in one pound of fat. In order to lose 20 pounds of body fat in 10 days, her net calorie intake must be -7000 calories a day, not just -1500! So, to lose 20 pounds of fat in 10 days, She must burn 7000 more calories than she eats each day, an almost impossible task for anyone!

This means 80% of the 20 pounds she actually lost in 10 days is NOT fat! Its muscle and water. With less muscle mass, body composition of a women has gotten worse and her body fat percentage has increased, even though she weighs less.

And I bet most of the 20% real weight loss i.e. fat loss was due to Oprah's 10 miles walk so what was the fad diet good for? And don't forget that she's going to gain back all the muscle and water mass in some time (that has happened to her no less than 10 times now) through a complicated process due to which she'll gain a couple more pounds of excess fat than she had before going on the diet! Holiday seasons are here again. This is your coveted time to forget about all the sorrows and rejoice with family and friends. Unfortunately, we do a little bit of celebrating during this time of year and add up extra baggage when the New Year appears. We unknowingly indulge in extra helpings, snacking on seasonal treats during celebrations. Hardly do we pay attention to our daily workout plan. This all contributes to increase in dieters in January.

Let us resolve this holiday season to buck the trends and avoid the Seasonal Seven (the average weight most of us will gain between Thanksgiving and the New Year). Yes this is the fact and you must not want to participate in this trend.

Moderation is the word of the season. It's the secret to achieving a fun but also healthy holiday time. Try to use this mantra both to what you eat (or don't eat) and how much exercise you do (or don't do). This will help you avoid packing on extra weight AND also partake in all the fun of this time of year. So kick start this season on a determined note on the New Year instead of starting January with extra pounds to lose.

Here are some tips to help you during those hectic holiday weeks:

•Plan ahead. Create a plan for incorporating fitness and good nutrition ahead of holidays sneak peek. Define you daily routine. Evaluate your vacation period and try to come out with realistic time line you can devote on working out daily. •In your work environment, simply reject the gracious treats offered to you by your co-workers. Stick to your healthy snacks prepared at your home. Eat moderately and don't guzzle on others snacks tempting you from nearing desk.

•Never wait until the New Year for you fitness goals to begin. Keep finding time and dedicate few hours on exercise as often during this time period as well. Adjust you other schedules appropriately. There can be lots of excuses for procrastinating your workout time. But it will ultimately harm you as you will be left in nowhere finding the right time to begin your daily exercise. Remember, tomorrow never comes! Utilize even few hours of your daily hectic schedule to keep yourself fit and healthy.

•Make a scheduler for your daily workouts. Always use a daily calendar or other inventory to set-aside time to complete them. Keep on regular update on your fitness calendar. Never skip a single day's workout. Stick to the timetable just like any other important business appointment.

•At holiday dinners, skip the gravy, dressings, and high-calorie condiments.

•There can be days when you may feel real lack of motivation. There can be time when you seriously find it hard to devote even 15 minute for daily workout. Even on these instances, do just 10 minutes of exercise. Try not to break this habit and go full throttle religiously.

•Health clubs can be good to follow a strict discipline and regular exercise. But at they same time, you end up coughing lots of money. If feasible, try to exercise at home. You'll find yourself more committed and inclined at to do workouts at your own pace and confidence. At the same time, you will be saving time on driving, parking, the locker room or waiting to use equipment.

•Drink less alcoholic beverages. The average alcoholic drink contains 150-200 calories per glass. Even if you indulge in these, try mixing half try mixing half a glass of wine with sparkling water or with a diet soda. This will help cut your calories in half.

•During socializing, focus on sharing time with your friends and relatives other than sharing desserts and hot chocolates. During get-togethers spend the majority of time talking and discussing events and interesting topics with your dear ones.

The above-mentioned tips must come handy to you when you are honestly on a path to weight loss program. Always find a balance between staying fit and also enjoying the fun of the season. Last but not the least; never forget that moderation is the magic mantra to weight loss key. Enjoy a great holiday season ahead!

The weight loss study shows that calcium, three or four daily servings of low-fat dairy products, can help adjust your body's fat-burning machinery.

Low-fat dairy may help reduce body fat -------------------------- The key is low-fat dairy sources, says lead author Hang Shi, a postdoctoral student in the Nutrition Institute at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. "High-fat dietary calcium can establish obesity, but it's surprising that low-fat calcium may help reduce body fat," said Shi. "The effect is very significant, much more than we imagined it would be."

His paper on the effects of a high-calcium diet in increasing body fat loss was presented at the Experimental Biology 2000 meeting in San Diego.

"The magnitude of the findings was shocking," says Michael Zemel, PhD, director of the Nutrition Institute, who is Shi's co-author and doctoral supervisor.

The more calcium there is in a fat cell, the more fat it will burn ------------------------------ In their past studies, Zemel and colleagues have shown that calcium stored in fat cells plays a crucial role in regulating how fat is stored and broken down by the body. It is thought that the more calcium there is in a fat cell, the more fat it will burn.

The researchers used mice bred to be obese in their current study. The mice were fed a special high-fat, high-sugar diet for six weeks. All had a 27% increase in body fat.

Some were then switched to a calorie-restricted diet. Of those, one group was given calcium supplements (calcium carbonate similar to Tums) and others were fed "medium" and "high" amounts of low-fat dry milk.

Body fat storage was markedly reduced by all three high-calcium diets, say the authors.

Mice getting their calcium via supplements had a 42% decrease in body fat ---------------------- However, calcium from dairy products produced the best results. Mice on the "medium-dairy" diet had a 60% decrease in body fat, while those on the "high-dairy" diet lost 69% body fat. Researchers also found very small increases in thermogenesis, the body's core temperature, which then enhances the effects of calcium gained through diet rather than calcium in supplement form, says Zemel.

"Calcium is no magic bullet. What the study says is that ... higher-calcium diets favor burning rather than storing fat. Calcium changes the efficiency of weight loss," Zemel tells WebMD.

The human body's metabolism makes weight loss difficult, he explains. "Many people who stick to a calorie-reduced diet don't lose weight as fast as they

think they should. That's because they activate metabolic protection ... Their bodies sense starvation and hang on to energy, fat, more voraciously."

Substitute high-fat dairy products with low-fat dairy -------------------------------------------- Too many dieters tend to immediately "jettison dairy foods from their diet, because they're just sure they're going to make them fat. In fact, they are shooting themselves in the foot, because they subject themselves to more empty-calorie sources. They would be better off if they would substitute high-fat dairy products with low-fat dairy," says Zemel.

Keeping in mind that the mouse study is preliminary, it is very well done and shows promise, Pamela Meyers, PhD, a clinical nutritionist and assistant professor at Kennesaw State University near Atlanta. "But the calcium amounts the study suggests are effectively equal to what the USDA already recommends as a minimum for adults," she adds.

While nonfat dry milk was used in this study, few people buy that product, says Meyers. "Also, there are people who are lactose intolerant who can't consume dairy products. That is why we need to look at other food sources of calcium, [such as] ... dark leafy vegetables, salmon, mackerel, almonds, and oats. ... They also are very high in fiber, which helps in terms of weight management."

If using calcium supplements, it's important to choose those with dded vitamin D, zinc, and magnesium, which help the body to better absorb calcium, says Meyers. This study was supported in part by the National Dairy Council.

Close Kept Secrets to Weight Loss Lesson #2

Welcome to lesson #2. First of all, I believe that gratitude is so important in everyday life. With this in mind, I am in awe at the response for this ezine and I want to thank you for trusting the process and believing in yourself. When I woke up the next day after setting this up and saw the number of people who subscribed, I broke down in tears. I owe everything I have created to God. He led me to do this and through Him I will help you. I am here to be the light for you to know that you already possess the wholeness within. We have several layers that we will be uncovering. You will then be able to make new choices in your quest for weight loss and be putting daily plans for yourself in place. You will be amazed at the difference. My intention is that you get results!

As we proceed through each lesson, I will be reviewing some of the content in the previous lessons as well to recap. Hey, it doesn't hurt for you to hear information over and over again, does it? Remember it takes 21 days to create a habit. In lesson #1, we discussed how everything is made up of energy. Your thoughts are pure energy. Whatever you put out, is what you will get back. The Law of Attraction is set up and will manifest those things in your life which you attract with your thoughts. Changing your thoughts will be your greatest challenge. It was for me and it took daily effort to do so. When you look at your life currently, what have you attracted with your thoughts? If you're overweight, then what do you believe about yourself? If you believed that you could actually lose weight, these thoughts would have been released into the Universe to produce a completely different response.

I mentioned previously Louise Hay's book, You Can Heal Your Life, and in it she talks about how anger is the core issue of weight issues. Now, did you do your homework assignment? The homework assignment was to write down those people in your life who you're angry with and remember you can include yourself. You were also supposed to write down what they did that made you angry.

For me, I didn't feel love from either parent, but I had such a special bond with my father so I held on to his energy in a more devastating way in my body. My father died when I was fourteen, and there's an entire story behind that one in an e-book, Close Kept Secrets to Overcoming Illness. I felt responsible for his life and for his death and that book will detail everything about how I attracted a horrific illness because I carried so much negative energy in me relating to childhood. With this in mind, I carried anger at not feeling loved and having the childhood I believed I deserved.

Okay, ready to release that anger?

First, I want to explain the process. As an integrative body therapist, I work with clients face-to-face or over the telephone to help release their pain using Rapid Eye Technology and Emotional Freedom Techniques. Energy is energy and can be utilized all over the world. I did hear from a subscriber that she felt tingly all over after this process so it does work. We're on this journey together being supported by God. It is similar to prayer energy--the person doesn't have to be right there in order to see that prayer works.

What is Rapid Eye Technology (RET)? It's a technology which was developed to help release pain and trauma so that a person can experience love and joy on a deeper level. It stimulates the Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep cycle, a natural release process. Your eyes flutter when you are in REM sleep similar to watching a baby sleep and this is where the release process takes place. How many of you have experienced waking up in the middle of the night remembering that you were supposed to do something? This is your brain at work for you while you sleep. Well, in RET, you're awake and you're processing and releasing your stuff. There's also guided imagery, charka clearing, affirmations and life skills which are part of this process as well. RET is great for balancing left and right brains because the left brain has to know why whereas the right brain sees the positive/spiritual aspect of the world. In addition, we'll be using Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). The premise of this technique is that when one experiences a negative emotion like anger, there is a disruption in the body's energy system resulting in various symptoms. EFT is similar to acupuncture without the needles.

When I work with clients, we go through six to twelve sessions. Depending upon the amount of stuff one is carrying will determine how long the duration of the sessions so just keep this in mind. The results are absolutely amazing as the person feels lighter after releasing.

Okay, we have that out of the way. Now let's proceed.
These processes address the underlying cause of most weight issues--the need to tranquilize with food the anxiety which is felt by you with unresolved emotional issues. Until one's underlying issue is dealt with, the need to overeat will continue. This is why many weight loss programs fail over the long term. People may lose weight using them but since the underlying emotional issue is still there, the need to medicate feelings through food will ever be present. It has been my experience in working with people who are overweight that the underlying emotion has to be released in order for new choices to be made; otherwise they will just revert back.

Right now, sit back and think about your anger. Judge where you are on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the highest) with your anger that we spoke about earlier--who you're mad at and why. Now, if you're not feeling anger, then identify if it's sadness, guilt or shame.

Release Process
State your intention for what you want out of your personal session and ask God, angels or your guides for assistance. If uncomfortable emotions surface, acknowledge them by writing down what you're feeling. Read the entire process (you'll be doing several things) to the end of the ezine before proceeding.

1) Get comfortable in a chair or on the couch. Find two spots. One in each corner of the room at eye level.

2) Move your eyes to the left and right as rapidly as possible for the intent to release (as you move your eyes from left to right, look up at the seam between the ceiling and the wall and then slowly move your gaze downward to the seam between the wall and the floor, then return to eye level. It's like a "zigzag" sequence.

3) After several seconds of this, open your eyes wide and then scrunch them closed as you breathe in and out. Do this no more than three times.

4) If the emotion still seems strong, return to step 2 and begin again. Only do this process twice.

5) Open your mouth wide and take a big breath, hold it in a second and then blast the energy out to dissolve in the light. Do this three times.

While you're doing the above process, you can say the following while moving your eyes:
Release all trauma/Release all the anger/Release all the sadness/Release all the frustration/Release all the grief/Release all the helplessness/Release all the hopelessness/Release all pity/Release all the poor me/Release it.

Energy Realignment
Tap the pressure points outlined below with the first two fingers (index and middle fingers) on your hand 7-10 times while repeating the phrases below. Here's some you can use or you can make up your own to make it unique to your situation.

You'll always fill in the blank and then complete the statement with the same phrase.
Even though my mother didn't like me, I deeply and completely accept myself. Even though I didn't feel love from my father, I deeply and completely accept myself. Even though my mother doesn't think I'm good enough, I deeply and completely accept myself. Even though I'm embarrassed by my weight, I deeply and completed accept myself.

1) Beginning of the eyebrow towards your nose

2) Side of the eye (either eye)

3) Under center of eye on cheekbone (either eye)

4) Under nose

5) Under bottom lip

6) Right below the collarbone (either collarbone)

7) Under the arm, about 4 inches below the arm pit (either arm)

8) Tap all over the top of head for good energy flow

9) Form a fist and rub in the clockwise motion over your heart

Don't worry if you're not sure if you're hitting the right points and saying it just right. You will still get results. There are many energy points all over your body. Trust in yourself and know that God is with you every step of the way.

Now, judge the intensity on a scale of 1-10. If you're not at a 1 or a 2, then repeat the tapping.
You can tap throughout the day, especially when issues of food begin to arise (even though I have this craving for chips, I deeply and completely accept myself). I do a morning routine of tapping and I include exercise, meditation and prayer. I tap throughout the day and it keeps me centered and then I do a night routine as well. I tap when I have to do a presentation and I'm experiencing fear. I tap when I'm about to have a conversation which is uncomfortable and I'm experiencing fear. I tap in my car. I'm sure it must be funny to the person who is in the car next to me. Just like me, this will become part of your daily routine.

Positive Affirmations
The mind does not know the difference between what is real and what is imagined. Athletes use this concept to envision themselves as already have completed their feat. They visualize themselves being triumphant. This is what separates those who are successful and those who still are presented with challenges. You must believe yourself as if you have already are at your desired weight.

With this in mind, it's important to use these as if they are already occurring. Once you do this, you will manifest and attract exactly what you focus your thoughts on. Use these or create your own and say them throughout the day…several times a day. It works to put them on sticky notes or 3x5 cards so you're reminded to do them. Place them on your refrigerator, your mirror…..any place that is visible.

Weight Loss Tool: Food Journal

All the weight control experts recommend keeping a record of what you eat. Seeing your daily intake in black and white reality can boost your pride in your self-discipline, gently confront you with some less than stellar choices you've made, or cast you into a morass of guilt and depression when you face the epicurean debacle that your food intake represents.

A food diary can become so much more useful for your weight wars if you use it as a tool for self-exploration and self-discovery. It allows you to create an oasis of support that anchors you in a world tossed by competing priorities, overwork, incredible dietary temptations, and social pressures that all lead to frustration, inwardly directed anger, diminished self-esteem, and terminal fatigue.

What do we need to do to create such a tool?
1. Buy a good spiral notebook with lots of pages and a hard cover - you're going to keep this for a long time so avoid anything that's going to easily fall apart.

2. Enter the date you started your journey: this is the baseline against which you will compare your entries for the next several months. Under the date, enter the following information as accurately as you can make it, as of this very moment:

3. Each day, you are going to enter not only what you ate, but the thoughts and emotions that accompanied the food. Note: Don't become obsessive - it more productive to keep this daily but if you run out of time and energy now and then, skip it, and get back to it when you can.

4. It is going to take some thought and memory-searching to ferret out what you need so find yourself a quiet spot where you can be alone and quiet. Keep your book there, close at hand, so you can quickly visit when you want to record anything that occurs to you.

5. Start teaching yourself to identify the inner landscape that accompanies your food intake. Focus on the moments before you ate:

 

How did you feel at the time?

Were you (genuinely) hungry - create a 1 to 10 rating scale for yourself, ranging from "not really" up to "starved, faint, light-headed." Were you bored?

Were you anxious and trying to calm yourself down?

Were you angry and stuffing that anger down your own throat?

Were you feeling sorry for yourself?

Were you with good friends and just wanted to be part of the group?

Were you just not thinking?

Were you trying to punish yourself -or someone else?

You may find that you ate several times a day for the same reason or that the triggers to eat differed throughout the day depending upon the circumstances and people involved at the time.

6. Once you have jotted down everything related to the minutes before you ate (you may start out with very little to say but as you warm to this exercise, you will find yourself recording more and more information), consider how you felt directly afterwards.

 

Did you feel satiated and serene?

Did you feel proud of your food choices? Were you satisfied with all your selections?

Did you feel stuffed and uncomfortable?

Did you feel guilty about the choices you made?

Were you angry with yourself for giving in to temptation and blowing your diet for the day?

Did the food make you light and energetic or heavy and sleepy?

Did you think about tomorrow morning's weigh-in with dread or anticipation?

7. Take a look at the day from the perspective of now (last thing in the evening or a look back the following morning). Try to look at your entries as if they belonged to someone else. As a dispassionate third party, what are your conclusions about the individual who recorded this data? Is this a self-aware, consciously motivated person or someone who lives on auto-pilot with little planning or direction? Is this someone who has internalized their diet goals and attempts to control their environment and intake? Is this an individual who merely 'talks the talk" but pursues actions that break those verbal rules? Is this a happy person who is cheerfully continuing the weight struggle with a sense of humor and self-forgiveness? Or is this someone who resents the conspiracies of nature which attempt to load on as much fat as possible, to ward off some improbable future famine?

8. If you are generally satisfied with the day's food intake, give yourself a mental pat on the back and relish the day's accomplishment. Promise yourself that one great day proves forever that you can do it. Identify a small, non-edible, reward for your self-discipline, inner strength, and personal commitment. Record your conclusions and bask in the self-satisfaction you so richly deserve.

9. If you feel disappointed in what you read, remind yourself that it is only one day in a lifetime of thousands of days. Forgive yourself and start over. Think about one or two changes you can make so the following day's record will not be quite so disappointing. Guard against swearing that today will be perfect: you are not going to get there overnight but you will get there, over time, slowly, one step at a time. You are learning to take baby steps that will nudge your food intake into closer alignment with your goals. You are going to gradually add techniques to your arsenal of weapons to keep temptation at bay. The simple fact of intake awareness will keep slowly propelling you towards the goals you have so carefully set.

10. At the end of your entry, enter your weight for the day - it will always fluctuate a little bit but will show you how you are doing when viewed over a period of time.
