Losing weight is often a struggle but it is even more of a struggle without the right psychology. You can have all the information in the world about how to lose weight but without the right psychology to apply it, it is useless. Weight loss is only achieved by having the correct information and using that information to take action. Having the appropriate psychology is the most important element of weight loss but is usually overlooked and underestimated. The right psychology will give you motivation, commitment, and help you to overcome obstacles, temptations and distractions. The proper psychology can also make weight loss fun, easier, more exciting and develop changes towards a healthy new lifestyle and a better quality of life.
I will try to keep this article as simple as possible. I will avoid jargon whenever I can. I will not go into detail about how some of the processes work, as it is irrelevant. However if you would like more detailed information then feel free to contact me, my details are at the end of the article. During the article I use the term losing weight. When I say losing weight I am specifically referring to losing fat. Weight loss is all about fat loss. I want you to lose fat but keep the muscle.
What is the right psychology and why is it important?
First off I will start referring to a person's psychology as a mindset. A mindset is important because it controls our behaviour, thoughts and actions. As people grow they develop habits and associations that govern their life. These habits and associations are controlled by our subconscious and people are usually unaware of them. A person's subconscious can also sabotage their weight loss efforts. The right mindset consists of using various techniques and strategies to control your behaviour by monitoring your actions and thoughts. A colleague of mine Jack Bauer couldn't understand why people moan about being overweight but wont exercise. I replied by saying that they don't have the correct mindset. You might think that they just lack the correct information but if they had the proper motivation then they would find it. Nothing can stop someone that has a powerful mindset. People like this will always find a way no matter what obstacles they face. People that don't lose weight have formed associations and habits that have taken control of their life and stopped them.
· You have to write your goals down.
· Your goals have to be specific. · Your goals have to have a deadline.
· Your goals have to be measurable. · Your goals have to be achievable.
· You have to focus on your goals everyday.
· You have to have emotion behind your goals.
The best way to set a weight loss goal is to set more than one. Have one long-term goal and then break it down into smaller goals. Make some monthly and weekly goals. You can only eat an elephant a piece at a time. This is a very simple and basic overview of goal setting. There are other strategies involved that will make goal setting more efficient and make you driven to succeed. There are also other techniques and strategies apart from goal setting which will help you develop a powerful psychology including controlling your focus, having a critical action plan, forming new associations, developing new habits and controlling you internal dialogue and self talk. This might seem complicated and a bit overwhelming but the techniques are simple and easy to use.
To lose weight you also need a nutrition plan and it is also important and highly advised to have an exercise routine. When obtaining a nutrition or exercise plan you have to make sure that the information is correct, suited for your needs and lifestyle, individualized specifically for you and your goals, is in your best interest and that the source of the information is trustworthy and creditable. Information is readily available, free and easy to obtain. However not all of this information is correct and the best. Make sure that you get your information from a trustworthy source and that they have some type of credentials or experience. If you can find this type of free information that is great but you will usually have to pay for it.
I wish you all the best with your weight loss goals and I know that if you develop a powerful psychology you will achieve your goals and success will be yours. So aim high, push the limits become all that you want to be and live the life that you want and deserve. We are not given the gift of dreams without the power to achieve them. This is one important technique that you could use to achieve your weight loss goals. Below I have listed simple guidelines to follow when goal setting.
Out of over 300 weight loss ads in the media only the FTC claimed that at least 55% couldn't live up to the promises they were making. If it seems to good to be true it probably is. What about the products that claim they are doctor recommenced or scientifically proven, they have to work, right. Just because a product claims it is doctor recommenced or scientifically proven doesn't mean that it's safe. What the ad fails to say is that the doctor is being paid for the ad, and may not have completely checked out the product. There are often no scientific basis behind the weight loss programs.
Testimonials are also not a good source of information on a weight loss program. They typically show before and after pictures where the clients look incredible in the after pictures. There is a reason for this. In the before pictures the clients are made to look as bad as possible. Unkept hair, no make up , and unfashionable clothes that give them washed out skin tones are common in the before pictures. In the after pictures the lighting is better, the makeup and hair are professionally done, and the clothes are much more stylish and suited for the person. They do this because the greater the change the more chance someone will be impressed and buy into there weight loss program.

First, drink more water. Add at least one more glass a day to what you already drink. And, at the same time, make it fun. Try these:
1. Seltzer Add a lemon or lime for a nice "punch." Bored with lemon and lime slices? Then try something more adventurous like a wedge of orange, a slice of pineapple, or a few cut up strawberries. All will add a little flavor.
2. Herbal Tea Put an herbal teabag into a bottle of water and let it sit in your fridge for a while. It flavors the water.Strong flavored teas work best. Stay away from the ones that contain caffeine. If its cold outside drink hot herbal tea. You'll enjoy the refreshing pause in your day.
Eat Cheese But Discard The Fat
Cheese is good for you; it's full of calcium. But it is also full of fat. Get rid of the fat by putting the cheese into the microwave for about 10 seconds, then drain off the fat and grease. (Be careful not to leave it in the microwave too long, unless you want Welsh Rarebit). Or alternatively, you could buy a cheese that has less fat in it.
3. Flavored Syrups Raspberry, peach, cherry or your favorites add splash to a glass of water. Just a splash will work so it does not add calories. Sugar free syrups don't add calories but are full of chemicals, so be careful in your choices.
4. Soup Broth and bouillon are great choices. If you like the creamy soups be wary of the extra fat in them and use these only occassionally.
As daunting as it seems to drink those 6 to 8 glasses of water a day, all evidence has shown that drinking enough water helps weight loss, improves skin, and is just plain good for you. Studies have shown that people sometimes eat when they are in fact dehydrated. So drink up and enjoy trying some of these methods.

You can so easily overeat. The programme you are watching may be so exciting and you are engrossed in it, you won't be aware of what you are eating.
Always Eat A Breakfast
Breakfast is the first meal of the day. The word Breakfast = Break Fast. You probably have had nothing to eat since supper the night before. So you are Breaking The Fast. Your body will burn more calories if you eat breakfast.
Fructose is Better Than Glucose
Drinking Water With Fructose (Fruit Juices) rather than Glucose, will act as an appetite suppressant. Drinking a glass of orange juice an hour before eating will take the edge off your appetite.
Bad Fats Are Not Good For You
Bad fats are Trans Fatty Acids. Many margarines are Trans Fat. Butter is not. When cooking use cooking oil instead. Read the labels on the food you buy. If you see the words Hydrogenated Oils run a mile as this means it contains Trans Fatty Acids. As a bonus, running that mile will use up some calories.
Use Skim Milk Rather Than Whole
Drinking Whole Milk means you are drinking the cream and this of course is extra calories. Switching to Skim Milk will still give you all the goodness of milk, without the fat.
Don't Have More Than Four Egg Yolks A Week
Do you remember the Advert on TV 'Go To Work On An Egg' personally I think you'd be more comfortable on the bus, but there is no accounting for taste. Seriously, the white of an egg (the Albumen) is full of the wrong kinds of fat. So better to have the yellow part of the egg (the Yolk) and then only a maximum of four times a week.
Before Cooking Trim All The Fat From The Meat
If you love your meat, by trimming all the fat off it before cooking will cut down your calories intake dramatically. Or alternatively, eat skinless chicken or fish.
