Weight Loss Tip #4 Protecting Your Spine and Lower Back While You Lose Weight

When most people begin a Weight Loss program or diet plan so that they can tone up and/or lose weight, the often forget about THE most important aspect of any exercise and diet program:

Safety. Although there are numerous ways in which exercising safely is beneficial to you, one of the most important and the least observed is concerning the spine and lower back. There is nothing inherently wrong with spinal movement.

This is a common habit that wears down on the spine and lower back area by placing more tension on the area than it should be handling.

However, problems tend to arise over time as a result of holding static positions such as sitting or standing with bad posture or not using proper body mechanics for lifting objects over a period of months and/or years. Due to the above factors, a very large portion of the population eventually develops one form or another of complications with their lower spine and back.

Here are some ways that you can protect your lower back and spine area from injury and strain while exercising to tone up and lose weight:

* Avoid bending over and lifting objects with your back muscles *

As an alternative, bend fully at the kness when picking up objects of any significant weight and use the power of your larger, much stronger leg muscles to carry the majority of the weight load and give your lower back and spine a break.

* Strengthen your abdominal muscles for additional back support *

The abdominal muscles are antagonist to the lower back, meaning that they stabilize movement at the back by providing a force in the opposite direction. They also have the potential to significantly reduce or even stop a force made on the back if they are strong enough.

Either way you slice it watching out for your spine is a crucial part of your weight loss program in that it keeps your body in good enough condition to continue your plan to help you tone and lose weight effectively.

Weight Loss Tip #2: How to Pick a Good Personal Trainer

One of the major benefits of the YourBestBodyNOW Program and several other programs like it is that you can lose weight and meet your fitness and weight loss goals even if you have neither the time nor money to get a personal trainer. At the same time, if you do ultimately decide to hire trainer at some point, I want to make sure that you are going about it in a way that will bring you the absolute maximum benefit. I wouldn't be a good fitness coach if I did anything less.

There's no doubt that getting a good personal trainer has many benefits, including but no limited to:

- Speeding up the learning curve - Great source of motivation - Getting increased results - Having a training partner to hold you accountable

At the same time, it is a HUGE mistake to simply rely on any old trainer to help you to consistently get the results that you desire. I can't tell you how many people pay tons of money for expensive personal trainers and get little to no results after months and months of working with these people. To keep as many people as possible from this horrific fate, I've put together a little check list to help you in choosing a trainer that is worth your money, time, and efforts.

1) All trainers are not created equal, so you do the picking

There are a lot of gyms and health clubs who will literally assign you a trainer when you sign up for the 1 on 1 option. Don't fall for this. With the time, effort, and discipline that it takes to get great results for your body---even with a trainer---you want to make sure that you are getting someone that you are going to be both happy and comfortable with.

You will want to meet several trainers, and may even want to ask a couple of them for a trial session to get a feel for their coaching style, depth of knowledge, and motivational skills. It also would not be a bad idea to talk to some of the members of the gym who are already in great shape and ask them which trainer or trainers they think knows what he or she is doing. You'll be surprised at the quality of information that you will get.

2) Don't Listen to a trainer who does not look any better than you do

I literally gasp for air everytime I walk into a gym and see a trainer with a client and noticing that the trainer is in no better---if not worse shape than the person who is paying them to improve their health and physique. I mean really, do the math on this one. How can someone who has not achieved what you want to accomplish possibly help you how to get there?

You wouldn't take investment advice from someone who was broke; you wouldn't pay for piano lessons from somoene who's tone def; and you certainly wouldn't ask for tutoring from the class dunce and then pay him to do it. So why in the world would you pay someone to help you have the body you want who has not already accomplished it for themself?

4) Expect the Unmagical

Rome was not built in a day, and neither will your best physique be. It is not what you do in spurts, but what you do consistently or a long period of time that determines what your body will look like and how well it will function. Hiring a personal trainer may slightly accelerate your results, and will most definitely focus them. Nevertheless, a trainer is not the end-all to your development, and getting what you want out of this will take just as much if not more work than you would have to put out anyway. Think of your trainer as a guide and a coach---not the silver bullet to Your Best Body in 30 days or less. Just know that as long as you are consistent, your results will gradually take care of themselves.

5) Be a Good Student

Once you've picked a good personal trainer who you feel comfortable with and confident in, LISTEN to them! Make sure to really take advantage of not only the precious time that you have with them during your workouts but also to their wealth of knowledge regarding your health and fitness that you can apply to your life outside of the gym. Many of the information and techniques that you learn from a good trainer can serve you well for much of your life as you constantly improve your overall health and well being.

Whether you are a fitness newbie, or a seasoned exercise buff looking to take your workout program to the next level, a well selected personal trainer can be a HUGE benefit to the attainment of your fitness goals. Just make sure that you are shrewd in your selection of them and that you sponge all of the good information that you can for yourself. If you truly take on the task of doing it right, I assure you that you won't regret it.

Weight Loss Newbies: The Beginner's Guide to Losing Weight

So you've decided that you're going to do it. You're sick and tired of being sick and tired and are once and for all hell bent on losing weight. Well, let me be the first to warn you of a very grim fact: Millions have tried before you and most of them have failed miserably at reaching their weight loss and diet goals. Therefore, I've put together a little beginner's guide to help make sure that you are one of the few that actually ends up being successful at this.

3) One Size Does Not Fit All

Just like you tend to wear clothes that compliment your particular body composition, there are numerous aspects of working out and dieting that will cater to making the best out of your very unique body type and its characteristics. Make sure that whatever trainer you use is not only knowledgeable of this fact but makes it a part of your program to evaluate specifically what should be done to best enhance your body type, not someone else's.

1) Get an accurate picture of where you are now

Many people just go and hop on a diet or weight loss program without knowing exactly where they are from the start. This is dangerous because along the way there WILL be numerous times where you will be tempted to simply quit altogether. Without knowing where you started, you won't be able to accurately gauge your progress. Not being able too see that progress put you at an extremely high risk of quitting down the road when the going gets tough.

2) Set specific, realistic goals for your weight loss, and WRITE THEM DOWN.

This is one of the most ill-executed steps in the entire process of losing weight. Most people will passively quote some random amount of weight that they "hope" to lose. - "I need to lose 30 lbs." - "I'm trying to get back down to a size X" - "If I can just fit back into Y, I'll be fine" That is the exact WRONG way to go about your weight loss. All above the above are hopes. Wishes. Desires. And none does a thinner body make. What you need are detailed, definite goals that are written and time bound (e.g. "over the next 3 months") to hold yourself accountable to doing what you said you were going to do by the time you said you were going to do it.

3) Adopt a step-by-step course of action to get you there

In order for this to work there needs to be a concrete method to your weight loss madness. To this end, you need to chose a weight loss plan that will lead you step-by-step through what to eat (and what not to eat), how and when to exercise, and every other imaginable aspect of losing weight. The reason for this is that goals have a much better chance of becoming reality when they are being attained as a result of a plan or system of action.

4) Get started IMMEDIATELY

Most flunkies know how to study. Most broke people know how wealth is generated. Most overweight people how to lose weight. However, what separates all of these very knowledgeable, yet unsuccessful people from the results they desire is action. Don't let that be your fate.

Once you have written specific goals and chosen a plan of action, don't delay in getting right on track to weight loss. The cheesecake, burgers, chocolate, and pastries aren't going anywhere. You can snack on them moderately once you've achieved your goals. Don't get caught into the trap of holding off having Your Best Body any longer. The sooner you start, the sooner you'll be done.

5) Be Prepared for the emotional roller coaster

Nearly everyone who has tried to lose weight has had some level of success at one time or another. For those who have not been able to sustain desirable results, being knocked out by the emotional roller coaster is most likely to blame. Look, losing weight is very simple, but not easy. If it were, there wouldn't be so many people trying to get it right. The #1 skill that you will need to develop in order to make it through is surviving the roller coaster of emotions. One day you'll feel as if you're getting great results. A week later, you may actually feel that you are moving backwards. Either way, just know that as long as you consistently follow the weight loss principles, you will ALWAYS move forward, even if it does not feel like it.

6) Don't stop until your goal is reached, no matter WHAT

So many times people come to a screeching halt in their efforts to lose weight and diet because they get discouraged a portion of the way through OR after they reach a certain benchmark they allow themselves to be satisfied and quit the program even though their goal has not been reached.

DON'T DO IT.

There was a specific reason that you set your initial goal. Do not sell yourself short by settling for anything less. Stick it out until the very end, and your sense of accomplishment will be irreplaceable.

7) Once you've reached your goal, never, EVER let yourself blow up again

This is the last and final barrier to ultimate success in your efforts to lose weight. Make sure not to allow yourself to relapse while you are in maintenance mode. I recommend sticking to the same general principles that helped you lose the weight and then occasionally indulging in some of the foods that you love. This balance is the best way to keep the body that you've worked for and not feel over-restricted. Make this the first and last time that you ever have to go through a weight loss program. Remember that if you can just get it right one good time, you can literally maintain it forever with little effort.

Weight Loss and Exercise in Tough Environmental Conditions

Working out is working out, right?

Wrong.

Depending on the environmental conditions where you

live, there may be extra precautions that you'll want to consider when trying to lose weight by following a healthy diet and weight loss program.

HIGH ALTITUDES

High altitude environments have less available oxygen then those closer to sea level. One of the effects of such altitude is that the heart must beat faster in order to do the job of delivering oxygen to the muscle tissues both while active and at rest. Depending on the specific altitude and corresponding acitivity, heart rates may soar as high as 50% above normal. Also, side effects like hyperventilation, dizziness, insomnia, weakness, headache, and irratability are also common in such an environment.

Because of these possible outcomes, people who exercise in high altitudes will definitely want to consult a local physician for clearance before beginning their weight loss exercise program, and may want to lower the intensity of their weight loss cardiovascular activity---especially if they are beginners. People living in high altitudes will also want to get medical clearance before trying any diet pills, diet patch, or any other weight loss product(s) that may elevate the heart rate to eliminate risk of more complicated health concerns.

EXERCISING IN EXTREME HEAT

Under normal circumstances, the body's temperature is at or around 98°. In areas that have very high temperatures (around 100° or more), the body must adjust to maintain the proper temperature by transferring some of its heat back into the environment. The primary result of this reaction is that he heart rate will be higher than normal, similar to the effect of being in high altitudes. To best aid the body in maintaining its normalcy under such conditions, make sure to drink 3 to 6 oz. of water for every 10 to 15 minutes of weight loss activity and allowing as much sweat to evaporate as possible. It is also important to wear as close to 100% cotton garments as well as stray away from rubberized or water-proof garments that will prevent sweat evaporation. Light colors should also be worn.

EXERCISING IN THE COLD

To the surprise as many, water replenishment is just as important in the cold as it is in much warmer environments. The fact of the matter is that water is lost as vapor as inhaled during cardiovascular exercise and other activities that help you to ultimately lose weight. There is also a risk of losing too much body heat once you are done exercising.To best be prepared to exercise in order to lose weight fast while living in cold environments, make sure to dress in layers to insulate body heat and drink plenty of water. Also wear a hat to limit the amount of body heat that escapes through the head, which is where most body heat is lost from.

Select A Holistic Weight Loss Program

Overview:

It is a paradox of fate, that on this earth, while millions suffer and die from starvation each year, there are several millions more, who march towards an untimely death courtesy - overeating or obesity. Strange are the ways in which Mother Nature works! Obesity is a physical state that refers to excessive body fat. Obesity is known to be a precursor to various forms of disease, particularly cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The medical definition of being overweight is having a body mass index (BMI) between 25 and 29.9. If the BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9, you are within the normal or ideal weight range. But if your BMI is higher than 29.9 you are considered to be obese.

Obesity is generally a predicament of the affluent society. It is the result of surplus consumption of sweet and processed foods, accompanied by the lack of adequate physical activity. It can, not only shorten the life span of an individual, but can cause many grave diseases, such heart disease, high blood pressure, arthritis and diabetes. If you want to permanently overcome obesity, think of the weight loss program as the most precious gift ever bestowed to you.

Weight Gain Causes:

What causes weight gain is pretty straightforward: you consume more calories from food than the body uses or burns off in its daily tasks. But whether or not a person becomes obese depends on a number of factors, including genetics, societal influences, amount of physical activity, and psychological makeup. In the body of a healthy person, the balance between energy consumption and expenditure is properly maintained and consequently the weight remains steady. This is not the case with the body of an obese person; where the energy expenditure is less, eventually causing excessive fat accumulation. The basic principle underlying the weight loss program is to reverse this imbalance.

Getting the proper rest so that your body may recuperate properly is of the utmost importance. Sufficient rest alone does a great deal to retard at least the appearance of aging. You'll feel a heck of a lot better as well. Other things can be done include staying out of the sun to avoid excessive skin damage, and following at least a basic washing and moisturizing regimen to keep the face clean and fresh. Good grooming also goes a long way as well with looking and feeling your absolute best.

The weight loss program usually adopts a holistic approach. The more, the merrier - all facets of life are necessary and better together than alone. Dieting or fasting alone is not the best means to reduce your body weight. The ideal weight loss program typically combines a sensible diet (to shed weight) along with fifteen minutes of daily exercise (to lose the extra inches). The key to any successful weight loss program is to make enduring changes in your eating habits and lifestyle. If you want your weight loss program to be effective, you must feel strongly about it and adhere to the weight loss program full-time. Do not despair if you stop losing pounds after a certain period or level of shedding weight. This is a 'weight plateau' that most people hit, and is usually a transitory phase.

The weight loss program ensures that your food is balanced, nutritious and high in fiber. Fiber is not only perfectly harmless, but also acts as a natural laxative. Fiber when softened by water becomes soft and pliable, acting as an emollient. Best sources of fiber are whole grain bread, cereals, raw fruits, dried fruits and fresh vegetables. By eating in a way that works best with your particular metabolism, you may notice improved energy levels and not experience as many cravings between meals. Eat at least three meals a day, following a regular meal schedule and, whenever possible, eating at the same times each day. Whenever possible drink only distilled or water purified by some other means, such as reverse osmosis.

Summary:

When setting your weight loss goals, be realistic. Final success lies in accepting the fact that there are bound to be failures along the way to attaining your goal. Remember, no commercial or homemade weight loss program will help, if you cannot get yourself off the couch to exercise and cook that healthy dish. Once you have learned how to eat according to your biochemistry, it will become second nature. Rather than adhering to a rigid diet, you will be able to eat comfortably within your food group and see your weight gradually drop to a healthier level.

Men's Health and Weight Loss Tip #1: How to Regain Your Prime and Never Lose It Again

Guys, let's face it.

Aging is an inevitable process for all of us. However, you don't have to take it "lying down". As a matter of fact, you can literally manage the whole ordeal and either hang on to your body's prime condition or regain that which has been lost for years following a few very basic principles.

EATING HABITS

The first and most important aspect of your prime maintenance program has to do with what you allow to enter your body via your eating habits. You know what they say---"garbage in, garbage out"---and it couldn't be more true than when it

applies to your longevity and how good or bad you will age over the next few decades.

One thing that you will want to start doing immediately is to wean your body off of its cravings for and dependence on sugar. Sugar has a very insidious way of speeding up the aging process by weakening your body in a number of ways. In fact, Nancy Appleton, Ph.D., and author of "Lick the Sugar Habit" outlines the following detriments of sugar intake:

* immune system suppression

* upsets the body's mineral relationships

* can raise the body's triglycerides

* reduces the body's ability to defend itself against bacterial infection

* causes a loss of body tissue elasticity and function

* contributes to copper deficiency

* interferes with calcium and magnesium absorption

* can weaken the eye sight

* can cause general premature aging

* causes tooth decay

* contributes to obesity

* can cause gallstones

* can cause heart disease

* can cause appendicitis

* can cause M.S. (multiple sclerosis)

* can cause varicose veins

* can lower vitamin E levels in the blood

* increases cholesterol and systolic blood pressure

* can cause cataracts

* deregulates bowel movements

* can cause myopia (near sightedness)

* can compromise the lining of the capillaries

* can make the tendons brittle

* can contribute to Alzheimer's disease

* can lead to the formation of kidney stones feeds cancer

* the body changes sugar into 2-5 times more fat than it does starch

* may induce cell death

Need I say more about sugar?

Good. Let's move on.

Another thing that you'll want to get a handle on is alcohol. Not such a bad thing in moderation, excessive alcohol consumption inhibits the youthfulness and vibrance of the body by making it more susceptible to a number of diseases and infections which debilitate its ability to function. Of course, some of the same diet intake strategies that are affective in weight loss help to maintain prime condition as well. Not making a habit of eating late or consuming a lot of dairy and animal fat products will help to both keep you trim and preserve the functioning of your arteries in order to help your body keep control of its blood pressure and cholesterol levels as well, measure which will protect you from developing heart problems.

In addition to things that you will want to restrict from you diet, there are several that you will want to make sure to supplement it with or at least make sure that you get plenty of in your regular intake. First on this list is water. Cliche as it may sound, there wouldn't be enough room to discuss all of the things that it does to keep the body's systems clean and operable. Not to mention the aesthetic benefit that it has on the clarity of the skin. Antioxidants will definitely need to be a part of your daily food regimen.

These substances fight the aging effects of free-radical damage to the body. Some of the more popular antioxidants include:

* Green Tea

* Vitamin A

* Vitamin B

* Vitamin C

* Vitamin D

* Vitamin E

* Selenium

* Soy and Isoflavones

* zinc

Two of the easiest ways to add anti-oxidants to your diet are to drink green tea daily and to use soy milk with added isoflavones in the place of where you would use regular milk or cream.

BODY TONE AND MOBILITY

You may or may not be currently putting your body through regular resistance training. However, doing so get more and more important as you get older. Once past the age of 35, our bodies lose approximately 1% of their muscle mass annually. Since it is this muscle mass that gives your body its shape, form, and much of its strength, you will want to use resistance training to prevent atrophy and preserve as much of the actual muscle tissue as possible.

A second way in which resistance train helps you is that it keeps the bones strong and able to take abnormal amounts of pressure. This "practice" for the bones will come in handy in keeping them away from breaks and fractures that are very common as well as debilitating in older people. Even more important than resistance training is your body's flexibility. Nothing contributes more to optimal mobility than having flexible joints and muscles.

What's more is that a regular stretching routine not only adds to mobility but also helps to guard against 3 of the most common injuries---those to your back, knees, and hip area. Many of these injuries are the result of a rigid body being twisted into positions beyond its strength capacity or its range of flexibility to the point that something "snaps". Once any of these areas suffers major damage, it is generally never the same again.

The third major ingredient in preserving prime body tone and conditioning is cardiovascular activity. The benefits of such activity are obvious: a stronger, healthier heart and minimized body fat, the latter of the two helping the body maintain its most attractive shape and tone.

PRESERVING WHAT YOU HAVE

When someone said "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure", boy were they on target. Taking the best care of your body's condition before it begins to give you problems is the absolute most important part of any strategy to regain---or maintain---your prime. Much of what has already been discussed has dealt with taking care of yourself through diet and exercise. However, there are additional things that demand attention cosmetically in order to "put the icing on the cake" in all of this.

THE FINAL WORD

Finally, it is imperative that you keep at least a once-a-year appointment with your doctor for an annual checkup. This is the best way to catch any deficiencies that may slip through the cracks with everything that you've got going on to keep yourself in peak condition. Even with lots of effort being put into your body's maintenance, a few things are bound to slip through due to your individual lifestyle, habits, and genetic predispositions. Therefore, keeping tabs on your vital signs and being on the lookout for common killers like heart problems, cancers, and auto-immune deficiencies are paramount to your success.

Keeping all of these things in mind AND in practice will not only help to restore and retain your prime, but will help you to enjoy the absolute best overall quality of life that you possibly can.
