As more and more consumers become obsessed with feeling better and looking good there has been an insatiable demand and appetite for products or services that help them to accomplish these goals. The idea of teeth whitening is no exception, as it has rapidly become a very popular method of improving the appearance of an individual in a positive way. Certainly, working out to get buff or lose weight can have an effect on the way people view you and purchasing a new wardrobe will only make that impact even more dramatic but nothing is quite as immediate as having your teeth whitened. The fact is people notice an individual's teeth and their condition from the minute they lay eyes on a person. They have that much of an overall impact to our everyday appearance.
Teeth whitening is so important for some people that they seek out the treatment prior to going on an important job interview. They know that they have one shot at making a strong and lasting impression with their potential new employer and the fact is a good smile goes a long way towards cementing your potential at getting hired for a new job provided you have spent the necessary time preparing for the actual interview.
Today's teeth whitening solutions and treatments are painless and actually don't take that long. In fact you can have people noticing your whiter teeth based on just having 1 treatment performed to your teeth by your dentist. You may think that a teeth whitening routine or treatment is extremely expensive but the truth is it's very affordable thanks in large part to the new methods and procedures performed by your local dentist to get you teeth as white as possible safely and quickly.
Having your teeth whitened goes beyond helping to land a new job or to get people responding in a favorable fashion towards you due to your overly generous attitude of smiling at everyone you meet. It also does wonders for your social life. A brighter and whiter smile can easily help to land you more dates with the opposite sex.
As you can see the advantages to having your teeth whitened far outweigh any negative or disadvantages that could possibly take place. Teeth whitening is a phenomenal way to improve your overall quality of life and it will clearly show in your attitude as you continually smile at everyone you meet with your whiter looking teeth and bright smile.

As always, before you attempt to self medicate or try a new health regimen or program we suggest you retain the services of a qualified health care professional.
Teeth Whitening and Sensitive Teeth
Tooth whitening to achieve that "perfect" smile has recently become extremely popular. However, there is a price to be paid for that beautiful smile. One of the side effects of tooth whitening is temporarily increased sensitivity to heat or cold. This increase in sensitivity is seen by most people as being a minor side effect of treatment, plus it usually goes away after treatment is over. However, if your teeth are already overly sensitive to temperature, then you may need to be more careful in choosing and using a tooth whitening method.
One is the tray type system, which uses a carrier tray to hold the whitening agent next to your teeth. Another method is the popular whitening "strips", which are made of very thin plastic impregnated with the whitening agent.
There are several different methods available for applying the whitening agent to your teeth. These strips are designed to adhere to your teeth when pressed onto them firmly. Also available are gels which contain the whitening agent. They have a thick consistency which allows them to be applied to your teeth and stay until wiped off.
The increased sensitivity is caused by the main ingredient used in most tooth whitening products, either carbomide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. These two compounds are actually forms of bleach, hence you may see the terms "tooth whitening" and "tooth bleaching" used interchangeably. If you are using a product that contains either of these compounds, there are a few steps you can take to lessen the increase in thermal sensitivity.
One way to reduce the sensitivity is to reduce the time that the tooth whitening product remains on your teeth. For example, if the instructions call for 2 hours per treatment, then reduce this to only 1 hour. Another way would be to increase the time between treatments. If the usual frequency is once per day, then try doing the treatments every other day. If you still experience discomfort you could do both - decrease the treatment time to 1 hour and perform the treatments every other day.
Remember, even people who do not initially have sensitive teeth usually experience a temporary increase in sensitivity during treatment, so you will probably still experience some discomfort. Another suggestion is to brush your teeth before and after treatment with a toothpaste especially designed for sensitive teeth. These toothpastes usually use a flouride compound to de-sensitize your teeth. There are several different ones on the market Also, if you discuss your plans with your dentist, they may able to provide you with a professional flouride treatment that can be applied at home.
One other option is available if you have tried the tooth whiteners and find that they are too uncomfortable. You can use one of the available tooth whitening toothpastes, which will clean your teeth with a mild abrasive rather than bleach them. These tooth whitening toothpastes do not use bleach, so you should not experience any added sensitivity, but they will not whiten your teeth as much as bleaching. As your can see, if you have sensitive teeth, the tooth whitening process may take longer and require a little extra effort, but you should be able to achieve the same results in the end: a whiter, brighter smile.

Teeth Whitening Methods And The Reason Why You Should Consider It
Hygiene is a big part of every day life. Most days you will be coming in contact with people, unless of course you live alone and have the life of a hermit. It is important to take precautions to make yourself as pleasant as possible to all the senses. No one wants to smell a foul order and then follow the stench to you. Another big turn down to people is talking to someone with yellow or stained teeth. Of course, we should be looking at the person's eyes and that general region, but it is just human nature for ours eyes to wonder and notice such things. You not only want your teeth to look white, but also to be as healthy as possible.
There are a few methods that can be used in order to make that smile of yours a bit whiter. The main one is buying teeth whitening products from a retail store, which is the choice of most. One option is to bleach your teeth. There are 2 at-home-tray whitening methods to bleach your teeth and both require a mold of your teeth, either from a dental lab, or a boil and bite tray, made by you. In the process of home tray systems bleaching gel is placed in the molding of your teeth, then the molding is placed in your mouth around your teeth for up to several hours and must be done daily for as long as it takes to get your teeth whitened.
Another option for getting your teeth whiter is with the assistance of a dentist. During chair-side bleaching a very strong bleaching agent, and the possibility of a laser is used. The dentist will then proceed to clean your teeth and remove plaque with a sandy material. A gel is then applied after the cleaning. A laser may be used on the gel to help the whitening process. The laser does not do the whitening, instead it simply releases the chemicals in the gel, which will clean and whiten the teeth. The entire process usually takes 30 minutes but can last as long as an hour.Besides visiting dentists and using home tray kits, there are also over the counter ways to make that smile brighter. Products such as Colgate Simply White and Crest Whitening Strips can also be used. However, these methods tend to be much less effective than the home tray or chair-side bleaching methods.
If you find yourself having to do this, ask yourself why it has come to this. Did you take care of your teeth? What's made them so yellow, or stained? Remember that the time it takes to get your teeth white will depend on the color of which you started. If you started with heavily stained teeth, then you have quite a bit of work to do. After the bleaching is done remember to take care of your teeth. If you don't, you may have to do it again in the future and depending on the method, it might be a real pain. When the process is over, your teeth will not only be whiter, but your confidence higher.

It is a very common misconception that we must go to a dentist to achieve the "right" kind of teeth whitening. We have many methods available to us today that really are just as good, if not better than, the professional teeth whitening we are made to think is superior. But which should you choose?
There has been a great deal of change and increased "opportunities", if you will, for the average Joe or Jane to take advantage of this very popular cosmetic procedure. However, this was not always the case. In the early part of the nineteen nineties our only option was to go to the dentist and spend anywhere from five hundred dollars on up towards one thousand dollars to have the much sought after declaration that you also have whiter teeth.
This very expensive procedure also involved a multi step approach. Step one: Your dentist would create a personalized mold of your mouth. Step two: You then wait the typical ten days for your dentist to receive this custom fitted mouth molding back from his special lab. Step three: Come back to the dentist and sit in those lovely dental recliners for one to two hours with the molds in your mouth filled with a peroxide solution. Step four: Repeat step three , anywhere from two to three more times. Step five: Schedule a "touch up" in six months with the receptionist. Step six: Leave dental office with whiter teeth, (usually) and a very hefty bill to try and pay off within six months, so you can start all over again!
We now have four methods available to us. Of course the typical dental visit as described in detail above, or the much more pocket book friendly do it from home approach, with three different alternatives, is also available. You have the do it yourself version of the expensive plastic moldings that you form and fill yourself. You have the brush on approach. And then you have the strips. However, you need to be concerned about one factor far important than just the price tag for any one of the alternatives. This is the ingredients themselves.
The common main ingredient in all approaches is peroxide. Teeth whitening is achieved by the peroxide letting oxygen into the enamel and it then bleaches the colored substances. This is how it all works. But, some approaches use alcohol and glycerin. The reason for the alcohol is to dry the brushed on gel so it stays on teeth. With all of the saliva and movement that goes on in your mouth, it does not stay put anyway. The alcohol can actually cause bad breath and is bad for your gums. Then you have the glycerin based products. Glycerin is harmless on it own. But mixed with the peroxide it actually dries out the tooth enamel and literary causes the sensitivity that so many have with teeth whitening.Whether you choose a professional or do it yourself method, look at more than just the cost of the desired results. You need to be careful to make sure that your teeth whitening approach does not include ingredients that actually cause you more problems.

Teeth Whitening - A Popular Trend
Teeth whitening is not a new trend; products to whiten your teeth have been on the market for a long time. Recently though it has regained popularity and there is a lot of advertising for teeth whitening products. You are seeing more and more people with blindingly bright smiles.
Most of teeth whitening products you can find over the counter are toothpaste, gels and strips. It is ideal to use whitening products if you have yellow tones to your teeth and you have no restorations or fillings and very healthy gums. It is not recommend for people under the age of 16 because it could cause tooth sensitivity and it is not recommended for pregnant or lactating women. If you have sensitive teeth and gums you should talk to your dentist before using any product, also if you have an allergy to peroxide then you shouldn't use any bleaching agent. You should not attempt to whiten your teeth if you have gum disease, worn enamel, cavities and exposed roots. This can increase tooth sensitivity and even cause some pain.
People who have tooth colored fillings should know that they do not whiten. If you use a bleaching agent on these it may result in uneven color. If you really want to lighten your teeth then you need to talk to your dentist and see what their recommendations are.
Try not to have unrealistic expectations. Not everyone will have a nice white smile. People who have yellow tomes to their teeth will have the best results. Keep in mind that if you smoke the results may take longer and then may not last as long unless you refrain from smoking. Also keep in mind that the natural whiteness of person's teeth is about the same as the whiteness of their eyes. People who have blue gray staining of their teeth should know it will take longer to whiten, maybe up to six months of home treatment and visits to the dentist. People with dark stains may have better luck with veneers, bonding or crowns.
There are some side affect in teeth whitening. One of them is temporary tooth sensitivity and some irritation of the gum or soft tissue in the mouth. The sensitivity usually happens in the first couple of days of the bleaching process. The irritation of the tissue and gums could be from an ill fitting mouth piece. However the conditions usually disappear after a few days.
There are some things to consider when choosing an over the counter whitening kit. You should try to select a kit that will allow you to customize the mouth piece to avoid gum irritation. Talk to other people and see if they have tried the product that you are considering and see if it worked well. If you experience a prolonged change in the color of your gums or you experience an increase of tooth sensitivity to hot and cold foods, you should immediately stop using the mouthpiece and see the dentist as soon as you can.

Peroxide, that bubbly stuff used by doctors and moms to clean scrapes for years is the base chemical for this teeth whitening agent. Surprise!
Carbamide peroxide and /or Hydrogen peroxide are the two main key chemical ingredients used to whiten teeth. These are found in almost all of the tooth bleaching kits and teeth whitening products available today. The main difference between many of these products is the strength of the Carbamide peroxide gel. A general rule is that the higher the strength, the faster the results...and the greater the risks of gum damage.
Having your teeth whitened can help to encourage a few extra smiles, which as you will quickly find out can have a truly positive effect on your entire outlook on life based on the reaction from everyone that sees you smile with your new brighter smile thanks to a teeth-whitening treatment.
Most professional whitening /bleaching gels use only a couple of different chemicals to whiten teeth: Carbamide peroxide, used for a few hours to overnight, or Hydrogen peroxide usually used for about 30 minutes a couple of times a day. Carbamide peroxide is actually a lower strength product that can limit the irritating effects of stronger peroxide chemicals. Still, Carbamide peroxide gels come in a variety of strengths. These range from a very safe 10% to the more typical 16 and 20-22% strengths. There's also even stronger gels available that claim upwards of a 30%+ strength level. These can and will discolor your mouth soft tissue if the gel comes in contact with it for any length of time.
These stronger peroxide gels should probably only be considered if done by a dentist or dental professional. A dentist can make certain the material is only applied to teeth surfaces and can better protect the gums and soft tissue in your mouth. Higher strength products also are the reason why a dentist can achieve faster, though much more expensive results sooner. Although you may be tempted to get the highest strength available, the higher the potency, the higher the risk of problems. For best home teeth bleaching results, use the lower or middle range of Carbamide Peroxide strengths.
Professional Teeth Whitening kits bleach teeth for thousands of people every year without major problems. This doesn't mean that using teeth bleaching products are completely free of any problems even if used incorrectly however. Tooth sensitivity, gum discoloration and a poor teeth whitening job can result if Carbamide peroxide gels aren't used as directed. Peroxide and it's counterpart, Carbamide Peroxide, are bleaching chemicals. Specifically they're known as oxidizing agents. Although you may be more aware of basic chlorine bleach, hydrogen peroxide or peroxide bleaches are also actually another well used and trusted bleaching agent in many industries. Color safe bleaches and even the now popular "Oxy-Clean" type bleaches are really oxygenating or an oxidizing bleach. To be even more clear, they're selling bleach with an oxidizing agent, and most probably it's a compound that includes peroxide in some strength.
Did you know that bleach doesn't really get out stains?
Depending on the bleaching chemical used, it actually adds oxygen (oxidizing) to a stain or removes or (reduces) oxygen to the stain. Chlorine bleach by the way is considered a reducing agent that removes oxygen from stains. Depending on the type of stain, it simply disappears when the right bleaching product is applied.
So Carbamide Peroxide is an oxidizing agent that bleaches or whitens your teeth by adding oxygen molecules to the stains. Remember that Carbamide Peroxide is almost the same product as that brown bottle of hydrogen peroxide moms have used for decades to clean cuts and scrapes on children. When used as directed, it's a safe and effective tooth whitening product that can make your smile look it's best.
