Skin Care Articles, Tips and Information

Natural Treatment for Serious Skin Care

Believe it or not, your skin is the biggest organ of the human body. The principle purpose of your skin is to protect your body from foreign agents. The skin is the first line of defense against disease and infection. It is also the skin that gives us protection against the sun.

If you have ever been to a dermatologist because of acne problems then you are probably very familiar with sebaceous glands.

However, it is also the skin that first betrays the effects of aging. Skin ailments such as psoriasis or dermatitis can be irritating and make our lives miserable. While we never needed things like wrinkle creams or moisturizers when we were younger and our skin more resilient, the fact is that some degree of skin care is inevitable as we age.

But skin care treatment is also necessary because of factors unrelated to our aging skin. Dry skin is caused by a number of conditions and therefore its treatment options will depend on the actual cause. Here are some causes of dry skin:

Medication Side Effects

As a society, we have increasingly become dependent on medication for things like high blood pressure, tension headaches, and even depression. Skin care treatment for dryness may very well be necessary due to some side effect of your medication for a completely unrelated condition. For this reason, you always want to monitor any potential skin irritation immediately after starting any new medication. If you already have dry skin and can't remember whether or not it was a problem before starting your medication, you may need to consult with your physician and discuss an alternative medication in order to rule out side effects as the cause of your dry skin.

Poor Nutrition

Skin care problems are often the result of poor nutrition. Our bodies require a delicate balance of nutrients in order to keep everything functioning properly, especially the skin. Vegetarians and vegans often run into dry skin issues as a result of not consuming enough animal fats in their diet.

A vitamin B12 deficiency will cause your oil glands (sebaceous glands) to function improperly, generally leading to acne.

Basically, any attempt to address a skin care issue (be it oily, dry, or even itchy skin) should begin with a close look at diet. Dermatologists can best assess potential diet-related skin care problems and recommend corrective measures to naturally restore skin vitality. However, here are some foods to avoid where possible in order to keep your skin as healthy as possible:

· fried foods (chicken, French fries)
· processed sugars
· caffeine, coffee, tea, soft drinks
· high fat dairy products like milk or cheese (consuming low fat varieties of milk and cheese may not be great, but they are better for your skin!)

Now the best thing that you can ingest for improved skin care is water. That's right, water. Water naturally removes toxins from your body-so the more you drink of it, the purer your body will be. Drinking lots of water is especially good for people with acne problems and it will also help reduce the onset of wrinkles.

Skin Care Problems Due to Sebaceous Gland Problems

Because the skin needs to be lubricated, it is covered with oil secreting glands known as sebaceous glands. If these glands become clogged with dirt, then bacteria begin growing inside and a pimple is the result. However, sebaceous glands can either become clogged and dry skin is caused or they can produce too much and cause oily skin. More often than not, problems with the sebaceous glands are due to poor diet and can usually be corrected rather easily.

Skin Care Problems Due to Diabetes

Believe it or not, even diabetes can cause you serious skin care problems. A person with diabetes has trouble regulating the blood sugar levels. When there is an excess of blood sugar in the body, the excess must be absorbed. To do this, the body uses a lot more water than normal and that can lead to dry skin.

Skin Care Treatment for Dryness

While diet must always be part of any skin care treatment regimen, it is just a simple fact that our bodies will need more help as we age. For this reason, a moisturizer of some sort will ultimately be needed. To this end, it is HIGHLY recommended that you use a natural skin moisturizer.

Moisturizers using natural ingredients are far less likely to cause the irritating side effects mentioned earlier. Synthetic ingredients are often less expensive to use in moisturizers but they are not the best skin care option because the body is less receptive to them. Natural ingredients, on average, cause fewer side effects and are therefore better where skin moisturizers are concerned.

Skin Care for Wrinkles

Wrinkles are probably the biggest cause of all skin care treatments in the United States. As a person ages, the skin naturally becomes less elastic. As a result, fine lines begin to form on the face which ultimately become the wrinkles we hate so much. There are two main skin care strategies when it comes to wrinkles: affect the muscles that reveal the wrinkles or fill in the skin so the wrinkles are less noticeable. The first strategy involves Botox and the second Collagen injections.

Botox Skin Care

A person is actually having a strain of Botulism injected in their face when they opt for Botox skin care treatment. Botox actually interrupts the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscles that reveal our wrinkles. It may sound radical, but these injections do actually reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the face for a significant period of time. Now these injections can be costly and they must be repeated-but they are generally affective.

Collagen Injection Skin Care

Many people have a serious misperception about collagen injections. The perception is that collagen is a form of fat that is injected into your face to fill in the lines caused by wrinkles. Actually, collagen is an effective form of skin care treatment for wrinkles not because it is fat-but because it is protein. In fact, collagen is a special protein that helps cells and blood vessels connect to one another. When this happens, the wrinkles fade because the collagen helps the skin to “rebuild” in areas where wrinkles form and actually fill in the lines. Again, collagen treatments tend to work but they also are expensive and need to be repeated.

Natural Anti-Wrinkle Creams

A cheaper, but slower, alternative to expensive skin care treatments for wrinkles is a simple cream. Anti-wrinkle creams work to rebuild the skin texture and helps with the elasticity over time. However, unlike Collagen or Botox injections, anti-wrinkle cream skin care treatment is only applied to the skin surface. This is why it takes so much longer. Still, an anti-wrinkle cream is a cost-effective and non-invasive treatment for wrinkles that does work if given enough time. Again, in order to reduce possible side effects, stick with creams that use natural ingredients as they will react better with your skin.

Belief In Common Skin Care Myths Can Have Disastrous Effects

There are a host of skin care myths we've all been exposed to at some time in our lives. Here are a few of the most common:

Myth: There is no ideal time to apply moisturizer to prevent dry skin.

False: The optimum time to apply a moisturizer, such as a good shielding lotion is right after bathing while your skin is still moist. This will make bathing a moisturizing experience, rather than a skin-drying experience. When your skin completely dries after washing, some of your skin's natural moisture is lost through evaporation. Apply lotion or cream throughout the day as needed.

Myth: Drinking plenty of water makes your skin moist and supple.

False: Though drinking water is essential to good skin care and to keeping your body hydrated, alone a generous water intake doesn't make your skin look moist and supple, nor does it improve wrinkles or make your skin look younger.

The amount of moisture in your dry skin is more likely determined by external factors, such as:

1 The amount of humidity in the air

2 How much time you spend in the sun

3 How often you wash your skin

4 The types of soaps, detergents and external irritants to which you are exposed

Myth: The best way to clear up acne is to wash your skin as often as you can.

Myth: Skin conditions can be cleared up quickly

False: Some skin conditions such as bacterial infections start improving as soon as you use the right medications. However, many skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and seborrhea are chronic, meaning they get better slowly with treatment and reoccur when the treatment stops.

Myth: The fragrance added to skin care products is a nice effect and won't harm my skin.

False: Of the ingredients used to make skin care products, fragrance is the most likely to cause allergic contact dermatitis -- a skin reaction that produces a red rash, bumps and sometimes blisters. If you have sensitive skin or experience an allergic reaction to your skin products, choose those without added fragrances. Select products marked "fragrance-free" or "without perfume," which means that nothing has been added to make them smell good. Products labeled "unscented" contain a fragrance to mask the smell of other ingredients or chemicals.

Myth: Stress has no effect on skin conditions, such as hives, psoriasis and eczema.

False: Stress worsens many skin conditions, including psoriasis, eczema, hives, rosacea and acne. Manage your stress to reduce the occurrence or severity of these bothersome skin conditions.

Myth: There is nothing wrong with a healthy tan.

False: The best way to take care of your skin is to protect it from the sun. Ultraviolet light -- the invisible, but intense rays of the sun -- damages your skin, causing deep wrinkles, dry, rough skin, liver spots, and more serious disorders, such as noncancerous (benign) and cancerous (malignant) skin tumors.

Myth: Shaving makes your hair grow back thicker.

False: Shaving hair doesn't create new, active hair follicles. It also doesn't increase the rate of hair growth or the color or length of your hair. The color, density, location and length of hair mainly depend on genetic factors as well as hormonal factors. When you shave body hair, it may feel coarse or "stubbly" for a time as it grows out. During this phase, it may seem more noticeable.

Myth: Men don't have as many skin problems as women

False: Men wrinkle as much as women and get skin conditions such as acne, seborrhea, atopic dermatitis, and psoriasis just like women. Men also have additional concerns surrounding facial hair. Men typically don't use sunscreen and protect their skin enough.

Dispel the skin care myths, take good care of your skin with a natural skin care routine, maintain a healthy diet and exercise program and you can enjoy younger, clearer, healthier-looking skin for years to come.

Tomato - Very Useful For Skin Care

It is an important vegetable which has many health benefits due to the presence of anti-oxidants. These anti-oxidants give tomato the radiant red color. The calorie content in tomato is very less making it a favorite among many people. It also contains fiber, vitamin C, E, K, B1, B6, B3, B2, iron, manganese, potassium as well as carotenes and many more to help you in every manner.

False: Frequent washing irritates the skin and can actually make acne worse. So can scrubbing your skin too hard or cleansing with harsh soaps or chemicals. Instead, wash problem areas daily with a gentle cleanser and use oil-free, water-based skin care products. An over-the-counter acne cream or gel also helps dry excess oil. Look for products containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid as the active ingredient.

Tomato Skin Care Recipes

Tomatoes are of great help for your skin. If you happen to go in the sun and in that span of time you get tanned, there is an easy solution. Prepare cucumber and tomato juice mixture to be applied on the affected areas of your skin. Keep it for 10 minutes; later wash it off with clean water. You will notice the difference.

Anyone can have skin rashes and the main reason for these rashes is silicon deficiency. This problem is overcome by having good amounts of sprouts, tomatoes and other vegetables and fruits. Make a mixture of honey and tomato juice to be applied on your face and neck. Wash it off after 15 minutes and within minutes you would see a glowing face in front of the mirror.

Another recipe for glowing skin is the mixture of 2 tsp tomato juice and 4 tsp curd. Apply it well on your skin and wash it in 15 minutes to see the difference. This recipe is for all those people who have oily skins, open pores and blackheads. Tomato has a acidic trait which also contains potassium and vitamin C which helps in cleansing the face. Rub a sliced piece of tomato on your skin and leave it for fifteen minutes. This would help the pores. Later wash it off with water.

For a good complexion spread the pulp of tomato on your face daily. Keep it for 1 hour and then wash it off with warm water. If done regularly the results will be seen. The tomato lotion helps in shrinking the enlarged pores and this can be made by using tomato juice mixed with 2 or 3 drops of lime juice. Apply this solution on your face and then wash it off for 15 minutes.

A great recipe to remove sunburn can be made by adding 2 tsp tomato juice in 4 tbsp of buttermilk. Apply it all over your skin. Wash it off after keeping it for 1/2 hour. You can easily make a homemade cleanser by using tomato and milk. Use tomato juice by straining the pulp and mix it with equal parts of milk. Store this in a bottle which can be refrigerated to be used everyday. Apply this on your face and neck by using your fingertips. Keep it for 10 minutes and later wash it with cold water.

Skin Care Education

Persons seeking a way to help individuals improve the overall feel and look to healthy skin may opt to enroll in a skin care school; commonly referred to as an esthetic school. Skin care schools teach students the science of skin and body care, hair removal and makeup application.

Based on several different approaches to skin care, educational and training programs offer students a practical and diverse curriculum in skincare theory, which includes but is not limited to anatomy; aromatherapy; nutrition; basic and advanced facials; sanitation and sterilization methods; mask therapy; massage techniques; bacteriology; body waxing; body treatments for cellulite; analyzation and treatment of skin; salon and spa management; microdermabrasion; and many other associated skin care coursework and business practices.

Skin care schools may offer evening and weekend courses, in addition to workshops and other training seminars. As an excellent continuing education program, skin care schools enable prospective students to enter the practice of esthetics in a popular and growing field of health and beauty relative to skincare.Because skin care school educational programs vary in course length and curriculum; and individual states regulate licensure of estheticians, be certain to check with individual schools for class programs; completion and licensing requirements; and tuition costs.

Skin Care Tips

Women across the world scan magazines and television channels for wonder tips for rejuvenating their skin. Men, too, are becoming increasingly conscious of their looks, and cosmetic giants are catering to their specific skin care needs.

Both men and women need to follow a proper skin care regimen to prevent premature aging and possess glowing skin. Mothers should begin skin care of their children right from infancy. This will not only keep children's skin healthy, but encourage children to undertake a proper beauty regimen later in life. Clinically tested baby products such as body oil, soap, cream, and lotion can be applied to babies' skin to keep it clean, soft, and supple.

Teenagers across the world constitute one of the most avid supporters of regular skin care. One reason is that they face a host of skin problems due to hormonal changes and improper lifestyles. Teenagers with oily skin tend to suffer most from acne. Pimples should not be picked or squeezed, as this leaves marks on the skin. The face should be washed at least twice every day with water and a mild face wash to keep out grime and reduce oiliness. A basic skin care regimen involving the use of cleanser, toner, and moisturizer should be followed.

Cleansers are available as lotions, bars, gels, and creams. Lotions are effective for oily skin, as they as they help to remove the oil, while creams are best suited for dry, mature skin. Bars generally help to deep-cleanse the skin, rather than remove make up. Gels are ideal for normal and combination skin. They can also be used on dry skin. Cleansing creams are supposed to be the best in terms of removing make up. Special cleansers are also available to remove eye make up. People with very oily skin need to use an astringent to tone their skin, after cleansing. People with combination and sensitive skin should also use toners.

Women, apart from following a similar regimen, need to take special care during and after pregnancy. Oil or cream massage is essential to avoid ugly stretch marks and sagging of skin. Older women need to apply outer eye cream, night cream, and anti-wrinkle cream and masks to avoid age-related skin problems. Exfoliation is also necessary to get rid of dead cells.

Men can choose from an array of pre-shaving oils, shaving gels, and post-shaving moisturizers in addition to skin rejuvenators and scrubs exclusively manufactured for men. All individuals also need to use a sunscreen with SPF of 15 or higher when they go out during the day, to protect their skin from premature aging.

To conclude, regular skin care is essential for healthy and glowing skin.

Either natural or cosmetic products can be used for this purpose, based on individual choice. However, external care must be supplemented with a nutritious, low-fat diet, sufficient intake of water, and adequate sleep. In addition, stress should be avoided.

Skin Care Products

Skin care products are an amalgam of naturally occurring substances and chemicals. Globalization has benefited this sector, too, and, therefore, people can choose from a variety of products from different countries. Whether it's the Christian Dior range or the Maharishi Ayurveda range, skin care products sell like hot cakes.

Today, bath essentials include body oil, luxury soap or scrub, and body lotion. These products help to keep the skin clean, fresh, soft, and supple. The three basic facial skin care products are cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. These products come in variety of forms to suit the needs of different skin types.

A moisturizer is essential for all skin types, to restore the moisture that is lost due to harsh weather conditions, air-conditioning or heating, and traveling. Oily skin requires a light, non-greasy moisturizer, normal skin requires a slightly thicker one, and dry skin can benefit from a creamy moisturizer. Special moisturizers are also available for sensitive or allergic skin.

Face packs are used to deep-cleanse, revitalize, and nourish skin. They also help to diminish blemishes and give an instant glow to the skin. In addition, sunscreens are being increasingly used by people and constitute a vital part of skin care as they protect skin from harmful rays.

Apart from these commonly used skin care products, people use a variety of other products based on their specific problems. These products include under-eye cream, neck cream, lip balm, cleanser for whiteheads and blackheads, and anti-wrinkle cream.

To conclude, as products of numerous brands are available in the market, people are often confused while making purchases. It is best to seek the advice of a beauty expert or dermatologist before going on a buying spree. Ideally, one should purchase products of manufactured by the same company if investing in a range of products.
