Blueberry As Both A Superfood And Skin Care Treatment According To Dr. Perricone

Often times, when we think of superfoods we think of spinach, grapes, green tea and other vegetables and extracts that are primarily listed for their levels of antioxidants. Did you know that the blueberry is one of the most nutritious and powerful superfoods.

The leading medical colleges are currently researching high percentage antioxidant extracts like blueberry for anti cancer properties and possible and promising treatments.

According to Dr. Perricone, one of the worlds foremost skin care experts, Blueberry along with the acai berry have one of the highest known levels of antioxidants of any food. Higher levels of antioxidants than red wine and green tea combined. It is full of amino acids, vitamins, and antioxidants, and essential fatty acids. Whole, fresh blueberries are best, but pure blueberry juice and combination blueberry and pomegranate juice can be found at your local grocery store in the produce section.

Blueberries have many uses as blueberry extract has been used in ancient herbal and medicinal treatments for thousands of years. Many skin care treatments now use blends of blueberry extracts along with other herbs to help revitalize the skin and hasten healing. These treatments have been clinically proven to decrease healing time for skin peels, especially deeper skin peels like the TCA skin peel. They have also shown marked ability at reducing scarring in wound and burn treatment, although more research is needed.

Dr. Perricone in his best selling book The Perricone Prescription states that for optimum skin care one should regularly eat high antioxidant foods like blueberry, acai, pomegranate, and spinach. These foods with their high concentrations of antioxidants and nutrients help combat and can even reverse the aging process.

With the right diet full of antioxidant rich foods one can virtually stop wrinkles in their tracks. A good diet along with a good skin care regimen can produce amazing results. A good skin care regimen includes a mild cleanser, a moisturizer packed with antioxidant extracts, and skin peels to increase exfoliation and reduce oily build up. It is also a good idea to use a high spf sun protectant.

In clinical settings there is evidence that these antioxidant rich foods do have a marked effect on several types of cancer. In addition to anti cancer properties, the blueberry has shown an positive effect on the nervous system, and increase in cognitive function and reasoning, and an increase in muscle function and regeneration.

Truly the blueberry has many current and promising functions and, as a superfood like acai according to Dr. Perricone, should be made a staple of every diet for additional health, great skin care and longevity.

Beauty Advice - Skin care for Men

Do you want to get noticed in parties, clubs or meetings? If yes, one way is to be active, smart, and intelligent and above all have a glowing face. Or if you are looking for dating with your friend next week be ready and just get started with some essential beauty tips. Cleansing is important part of everyday skin care. Good old soap and water is better than using nothing at all, but hand soap is designed for use on hands. Feel your hands. I don't think anyone wants a face that feels like that. Why not try something new?

Shaving is another thing that men don't give much thought to. Well, you ought to! Why have rough, razor-burned skin when you could be smooth? Trust me. The ladies like a man that is smooth, and that doesn't just apply to clichéd pick-up lines!

Always use a warm washcloth on your face before you shave. This will soften the hairs, and allow your pores to open up. And before you shave, make sure you have a decent razor. Those disposable razors should be disposed of once and for all! There are a number of new razors on the market that will provide you with a good, close shave. Be sure to use a quality shaving cream or gel, and be sure to moisturize when you are done.

All the best and have fun in your life. Still looking for some more beauty tips or discussion, visit [Teens Discussion, Chat and Dating Forum - Join the Free Discussion, Chat and Dating Forum. Skin Care on a Budget

FORWARD When I was young, I was a sun worshiper. I would swim and frolic in the sun for hours and not put protection on my face or body. Today, I have little freckles and slight wrinkles around my eyes, which is a sign of sun damage. The elderly would warn me and I never took heed. Today I regret it. However, there are even more reasons beyond cosmetic to protect your skin. Studies show that your chances of getting melanoma are 1 out of every 41 people and 1 out of every 5 people will get some type of skin cancer from the sun.

Take a trip down to your local pharmacy and have a look around. Or if you are too embarrassed and you already have a Mrs. Right, I'm sure she would be happy to pick something up for you. There are countless products available, and there is sure to be something right for you. Try to find something with minimal fragrance, so you aren't overpowering the ladies with your various scents.

Acne Care - Determine Your Skin Type

People have different type of skins which determines in a big way how acne will affect it and what type of treatment to use on it. Also it will determine what products to use to generally care for the skin.

Some questions have to be asked before seeking treatment. First, how often do you break out? Do you have blackheads? What do your pores look like? After washing with soap, how does your skin look and feel? Do you have facial lines? By asking yourself these questions, you can determine what types of products will work best for you and how your skin might react to them.

The three basic skin types are:dry, oily, normal. One can have either of the three or a combination of them, e.g normal to oily, or normal to dry. Each skin type or combination requires different treatment products.

Now each of this skin types has different types of the following characteristics:texture, oil production and frequency of breakouts.Dry skin usually has the least number of breakouts since it produces little oil.Oil is the one which causes pores to clog resulting in pimples. Dry skin usually has nearly visible pores and may feel dry and tight after washing.People with this type of skin are usually fair skinned and develop facial lines earlier in life. However this skin type also burns easily.

Normal skin is characterized by occassional breakouts and blackheads in the T-zone.This zone is the area on the forehead and either side of the nose.Pores often appear visible in the t-zone, and the skin may feel tight after washing. The skin is usually fair to medium with facial lines appearing early around the burns when exposed to sun but thereafter tans.

Oily skin suffers the most breakouts with blackheads and due to it's oily nature often appears as shiny after washing. The color is usually olive to dark -what Africans have-and doesn't age as fast as the other skin types. This means that facial lines rarely do occur. On exposure to the sun, it tans easily and rarely burns.

The key to finding the right treatment for your skin is to determine it's type. Each type has specific treatment producsts for it. Once you determine this, you can be on your way to treat the acne in the correct way.

Masculine Skin Care For The Summer

You agree - you'd rather die than be caught by your buddies stepping into a spa or salon. Growing up with a crowd that defines skin care as soap and water, you are afraid to admit that you want better skin. No matter how much you diss the so-called metrosexuals (brave souls!) for their skin regimens that rival ladies', you are a bit jealous. It doesn't help either that summer is upon us and your skin is blooming in zits. Okay, admit it - you want to be just like them but don't know where to start. Before shopping for skin care items, wearing a clown suit, and asking the salesperson for "that thingy with tiny beads, y'know?", here is a rundown of the things you ought to know.

Recite it all together now: cleanse, tone, moisturize, nourish, and protect. Don't follow it with a karate chop; it's not a kung fu mantra. Rather, this is your new creed for improved skin. Michele Probst, an expert in masculine skin care, says that skin is oilier during summer because of the humidity. Heat caused by humidity makes facial oils, or sebum rise to the surface. These oils trap dirt into the pores which bacteria turn into zits or pimples. She adds that men's facial skin has larger pores with 20% more oil compared to women. This means that the old soap and water routine is not enough. She outlines the above mantra as an easy five-step method to clearer skin.

Cleansing is easy with the number of products available in the groceries and drug stores today. Probst advises the use of products that are free of chemicals and harsh ingredients. Cleansers and soaps made of natural components are available in many variants but choose one that is specified for facial skin care. Keep deodorant soaps for your body and don't burden your face with deodorant residue. If you are not sure what brand or kind works best for you, consult a dermatologist. If you are afraid, buy trial packs or small sizes and try each for a week. Since you are buying all natural products, there are only minimal risks of irritation involved. Just make sure that you are not allergic to the cleanser's components.

First of all, it is necessary to check our water intake. There are varying opinions about how much water an individual needs for good health, but the general consensus remains that probably we aren't drinking enough water. This means dryness and wrinkles. So it's necessary to hydrate our skin by drinking plenty of water. But remember that alcohol, tea, tobacco and soft drinks contains caffeine and can dehydrate our skin leading to a wrinkle prone skin.

Exfoliation and toning do not involve wrenches or dumbbells, either. It means removing dead skin cells to smoothen skin's surface. Probst suggests the use of facial scrubs. These scrubs are just like cleansers but with soft and mild abrasives like beads incorporated in the formula. Effective scrubs for summer are Jojoba beads. These are mild enough for regular skin care but effective in removing dead cells.

Since you spend most of your time outdoors in summer, your facial skin is in greater risk of dirt and pollutants. Nobody wants to be a summer hermit, so toners are your best friends to continue enjoying your active lifestyle. Probst explains that toning does not only remove dirt from your face; it also keeps skin supple and resilient. She suggests using astringents with glycolic acids twice a day to reduce the size of the pores and prevent ingrown hairs during shaving.

Of course, skin care is not all about cleansing and keeping dirt of your face. Facial skin especially needs nourishment and protection. Nourishment comes in the form of moisturizers. Yes, your skin still needs light moisturizers even if it is oily. These moisturizers hydrate your skin to regulate oil production. Probst recommends applying moisturizers the areas under the eyes and the sides of the mouth. Doing so prevents the onset of something worse than zits - wrinkles. Eye gels and face serums with Vitamin E and chamomile nourish and refresh your skin. It is unwise to let all your skin care efforts go to waste. Probst warns that sun exposure can damage your skin. Wear hats and protect your face with sunscreens and sunblock creams.

Good skin doesn't always come with genes. Proper skin care is necessary to achieve healthy skin. The effort you put in skin care is reflected in your mirror soon enough.
