Dry Skin Care

With too many roles for woman to juggle in today's fast paced, high pressured lifestyle, there is very little time for her to pamper herself. With tension, worries, anxiety and age, the skin become less active leaving it drier, fragile, prone to wrinkle, lines near the eyes and mouth and losing the youthful colour and glow.

A well balanced diet of vegetables, fruits, grains, seeds and nuts provides the body with all the necessary vitamins and minerals needed for healthy skin.

Failure of oil glands failing to release enough oils to moisturize and protect the skin results in dry skin. Environmental causes like dry air, harsh wind, hormonal imbalance, usage of aggressive chemicals, cosmetics or excessive bathing with harsh soaps saps the moisture from the skin making it dryer, flakier and chapped during winter.

Caring for Dry Skin

- Cleanse and Moisturize:

The dry skin should be cleansed with a cold cream and alcohol-free skin fresheners to remove the cream. After cleansing, the skin needs a lubricating emollient or a moisturizer when the face is damp after the wash.

- Splash your face with cold water or gently wipe the skin with rose water to tone the skin nicely. - Avoid using highly alkaline soaps and detergents like washing sodas and powders.

- Avoid the sun, harsh winds and hot baths. Use oil-based creams and make-up products only. Use soft towels or wash cloth to avoid irritation to the skin while wiping it.

- Smoking deprives the skin of oxygen and nutrients it needs for good health making the skin dry and leathery.

- Chapped or cracked skin

- increase consumption of water. Keep chapped areas well lubricated and protected from the elements using a good nourishing cream or moisturizer.

- Use creamy, mild, pH-balanced products such moisture based cream gels, lotions, etc for dry skin care.

Drinking water and reducing solar exposure to a minimum is also beneficial. Garlic, onions, eggs and asparagus help to keep the skin smooth and youthful. Carrots, apricots, rich in vitamins A, C keep the skin supple. Increase intake of foods like leafy raw green veggies, dairy products like yoghurt, milk. Lessen fried foods, soft drinks, sugar, chocolates, junk foods, alcohol, caffeine and other foods that have diuretic effecting causing the body and skin to loose fluids, vitamins and essential minerals.

The 6 Key Factors For an Effective Skin-Care Routine in Treating Acne

All acne sufferers should implement a skin-care routine alongside their acne treatment. The products you choose must be carefully selected to complement your treatment, particularly given that they can have a profound effect on the overall state of your acne. So many of today's acne products have harsh chemicals, which when combined with scrubbing or harsh toners, could make your acne worse.

1. Look for oil free products which will not further block pores in your skin.

2. If your skin is dry and flaky from applying acne creams, try and find an oil free moisturizer, and apply it as frequently as your skin needs it. Because these moisturizers do not contain oils, they do not lock in the moisture as much as their oil containing counterparts.

3. If you're using a soap free cleanser, ensure that it is 'balanced' at around pH 5.5. Try and select one that you apply, foam up and wash off. This type of cleanser will not strip your skin of the natural oils that are present, and required for a healthy complexion.

4. When you wash your face do it with warm water, never hot water. Always finish up by gently patting your face dry, as opposed to scrubbing/rubbing it dry.

5. Exfoliate your skin at least once a week. This will help remove dead skin cells which can sometimes block pores on acne prone skin.

6. Avoid the use of toners. They are often alcohol based, and therefore dry out your skin much more than necessary. This will result in your skin feeling tight, and sometimes tingly.

If you follow these simple guidelines, you are unlikely to go far wrong, and will be well underway to a healthy, acne free complexion.

Recipes For Dry Skin Care Using Herbs And Essentials Oils

Dry skin is generally due to less oil and moisture produced by sebaceous glands. Simple dry skin results from lack of natural oils affecting mostly women under age of 35 years, while complex dry skin lacks both oil and moisture and is distinguished by fine lines, enlarged pores and sagging skin that happens with aging. Alternatively, dry skin could be results from genetic condition, poor diet especially deficiencies of vitamin A and the B vitamins, exposure to environmental factors such sun, wind, or aggressive usage of chemicals, cosmetics and excessive bathing with harsh soaps.

Overall Skin Tone - SKIN: Looking after your skin in summer the right way is very important. So, make it a point to use a face wash. If you are on the run, never forget to carry face wipes. They help to cleanse, tone and moisturize the skin. They even take the grime off the face.

Try and keep your skin-care routine as simple as possible. This is particularly important if you are already on prescription creams from your doctor, because of the likelihood that they will make your skin red and flaky. Here are some simple skin-care tips you should follow, in order to maximize your chance of tackling your acne:

To name a few essential oils for dry skin are Chamomile, Geranium, Hyssop, Lavender, Patchouli, Rose, Sandalwood and Ylang-Ylang.

- Aloe Vera gel applied topically helps to remove dead skin cells and is soothing, healing and moisturizing.

- Calendula & comfrey with its skin softening properties are used in facial sauna.

- 4 - 5 drops of lavender oil to bath water followed by application of diluted evening primrose oil or Aloe Vera cream moistens the dry skin.

- Evening primrose oil contains essential fatty acid to strengthen skin cells and boost their moisture content.

- Drink tea brewed with chamomile, dandelion or peppermint. Teas of Borage, fennel, coltsfoot or calendula help improve the skin. Add 1 tsp of either herb to 1 cup of boiling water and drink daily.

- Tea tree oil with its skin penetrating properties helps to moisturize and smooth the skin.

Treat yourself with these recipes using herbs and essential oils - Dry skin mask - Obtain a smooth paste by mixing 6 ounce of unflavored yoghurt, few finely crushed almonds, 2 tsp honey and wheat germ oil each. Apply and massage of your skin for 20 minutes.

Wash off with cold water. Crushed almonds exfoliate and eliminate dead skin, honey aids in adhering mask to skin and vitamin E in wheat germ oil fights radicals. Home made balm for dry, chapped lips - Heat ½ cup almond or grape seed oil. Add 2 tsp of melted beeswax, ½ tsp alkanet root. Strain the oil removing the root. Add 8-10 drops of natural flavoring oil and 3 drops of vitamin E oil.

If you hands are moisture dry or chapped, massage them with sandalwood, rose or chamomile essential oils mixed with hydrating base oil like hazelnut, avocado or evening primrose.

For energizing natural hand moisturizer, mix wheat germ oil with your favorite essential oil.

Before bath, apply a mixture of 1 egg yolk, 1 tsp orange juice, 1 tsp olive oil, few drops of rose water and lime juice on your skin. This is a good morning skin cleanser. 1 egg, 1 tsp honey, ½ tsp olive oil and few drops of rose water makes a good beauty mask for dry skin.

Try Herbal facial sauna once a week. Use chamomile, lavender, and peppermint herbs. Simmer 2 - 4 tsp of dried or fresh herbs in 2 quarts of water. After few minutes of steaming, place the pot at comfortable distance from your face on a table. Bend over the pot with towel covering your face and the pot to trap the steam. After 15 minutes, splash cold water and air dry your skin followed by application of moisturizer or facial oil. You can cool the herbal water and use it as toning lotion to be dabbed on your face after cleansing.

Healthy skin is the most important thing that changes you completely. Healthy skin imparts you with such a glow that even if you are tired for the entire day you look ever young and fresh at the end of the day.

Whether you are a lawyer or a doctor or a professor, healthy skin is a necessity for all. Skin care treatments decrease the wrinkles on your face and body and stops skin from drying up at any time. While you take care of your skin, you need not visit any spas and healing centers. You can simply follow the four daily basic steps like cleansing, exfoliating, toning and moisturizing in your home to freshen your skin considerably.

Four basic steps for home skin care treatments

Cleansing is simply a daily step that removes all dust and dirt from the skin. For normal skins 2-3 times is necessary while for oily skin you 4-5 times is good. Cleansing include cleaning your skin with creams, milk, lotions, foams, oils, gels and liquids. Using cotton pads dipped in these items is an affordable way. Exfoliation includes cleaning with a scrub like synthetic puff or natural sponge.

Shaving by men is a great way of exfoliation.

Toning includes dipping cotton pads in astringents or applying fresh cucumbers with cup of yogurt and cleaning your face. Also you can apply tablespoon of honey and lemon juice and rub it in outward and upward strokes for excellent results. The last stage of skin care includes well moisturizing the skin to bring a healthy glow to it. Apply moisturizer specially to dry areas to notice the change in few days.

Tips to have the best skin

Men have 15% oilier skin than women and also significantly larger poles. So the main step to have a clean skin is washing your face, neck and hands regularly with cold water at an hour's interval. Following are some important skin care tips for all: Clean your skin with cleansing products to get the best results. Scrub your skin regularly so that the dead cells can be removed from your face. For getting intense moisturizing treatments use pure Vitamin E and Vitamin C or aloe Vera oil.

Take special care of the skin under the eye, as it is the most sensitive and tender skin part. While toning use astringents that contain glycolic or alpha hydroxyl acids. The acids actually reduce the pore size and help avoid ingrown hairs. People with oily skin should always carry blotting papers and light powder pouches that will seep away the oil from the skin and give you a fresh and natural skin. Always take care of your lips and apply balm with SPF and peppermint oil in it to make them look luscious. If you want the perfect skin during Laser treatments, stay away from excessive alcohol, intense fatigue, tiredness, smoking and stress.

Saving your skin from the intense UV rays of the sun are important. Whenever your skin is supposed to get exposed to sunshine apply some branded sunscreen lotion to your face, neck, arms and other exposed part of your body to stop tanning and pre-mature wrinkles.

With these excellent skin care tips start taking care of your skin to look forever young, fresh and attractive.

Good Skin Care - Bacteria is Your Best Medicine

By now, most of you probably have heard of 'good' bacteria and 'bad' bacteria. Good bacteria help digestion and keep pathogenic substances in check. Bad bacteria compromise the digestive and immune systems. Did you know that the presence of good bacteria could be the most important element of your skin care routine?

At the turn of the century, Dr. Elias Metchnikoff, a Nobel laureate who discovered many immune system components, wrote a book called "Prolongation of Life." In this book, he documented the direct connection between longevity and maintaining a proper balance of beneficial microorganisms (bacteria, protozoa, algae, and fungi) within the body. The book inspired what came to be known as the

Probiotic Revolution. Although his theories were not immediately accepted, scientists and health and medical professionals are now proving and extending many of his findings on healing, immune system enhancement, disease prevention and life extension. The precise number of microorganisms in our body is not known, but it is thought to be in excess of 100 trillion. In a healthy, well-balanced body, these create an intestinal ecosystem that protects us against parasites, harmful bacteria, yeast, and viruses - our lives literally hang in the balance of this ecosystem.

The two most prevalent types of microorganisms in the body are bifidobacteria and lactobacilli. Not only do they guard against harmful bacteria, they also are involved in the production of certain nutrients such as Vitamin K and the B vitamins. The most common food source for probiotics has been yogurt. However, yogurt does not contain the full range of probiotics needed, and the amount contained in most brands has been found to be negligible. Decades ago, before our crops and soil were inundated with chemicals like pesticides and herbicides, our food contained all the probiotics necessary to maintain health. Organisms from soil, called homeostatic soil organisms (HSO), are still our best source of probiotics. A good blend of HSOs, from clean soil without pesticides, herbicides and other pollutants, can be found in health food stores.

Good health begins in the gut. If it's not in good shape, it will compromise your overall health. And that, of course, will manifest in every organ of the body - including the skin. So, good skin care also begins in the gut, and it is vital to keep your internal ecosystem balanced.

How to Properly Care For Your Skin.

The skin, as we are all taught in high school, is the largest and the most visible tissue in the human body. Of course it is. It covers us entirely from head to toe. It is our protective casing that allows us to move freely and gives us feedback on external textures, climate and other things associated with the sense of touch. The pores in our skin also helps us to release internal wastes through perspiration. These, among other benefits and special characteristics, make our skin one of the most important parts of our body - and therefore one of the first things to take care of.

We want our skin to be supple and smooth, yet still strong and healthy. There have been countless skin care products and treatments developed over the years that have helped a lot of people and solved many skin problems. However, it's one thing to cure skin damage and it's another to protect it. When you were born, your skin was nothing short of perfect. Therefore, the first logical thing to do is to protect your skin from any kind of damage or unwanted reaction from external factors.

Nonetheless, there are numerous things that can damage your skin even without you knowing it. Some of these would be climate or weather, unknown allergies from food or drink, and the most dreaded skin damager of all - age. Though it's possible to stay away from harsh climates and food you are allergic to, it is sad to note that age is something that we simply cannot avoid. Everything solid in this world wears out with age. However, this doesn't mean we can't do anything about it.

Different things cause acne for different sufferers. A few of the recognized causes of acne include heredity, hormonal activity (puberty, menstruation, pregnancy), stress, certain medications, and skin irritation. All of these things have the potential to cause acne, as well as exacerbate it. There are a few myths regarding acne. For instance we've all heard of a mom telling her child not to eat too many greasy foods like French fries, or eat too many sweets, because it will give him or her pimples. That is simply an old wives' tale. Diet does not cause acne, and does not affect it. Also, poor hygiene has no bearing on the occurrence of acne. Acne is not caused by dirt, and having poor hygiene habits will not aggravate the condition.

There are various products and treatments available for making your skin look younger and less wrinkled. Nevertheless, the important thing is to keep your skin as healthy as possible all the time while you're young, in order to effectively help in slowing down the ageing process. The more careless you are with your skin, the faster it'll develop wrinkles and look older.

Leading dermatologist Greta Winslow of Wade Skin Clinic advises "....always remember that healthy skin is the result of a healthy lifestyle. And by healthy lifestyle, we mean a balanced diet, lots of water (less sodas and carbonated drinks), sufficient vitamins, regular exercise, enough sleep, no smoking, less alcohol consumption, and effective management of daily stress. It's also good to suggest that the use of tanning beds and some topical skin treatments or medication that are said to provide "instant" results may be more harmful than helpful. It's always good to consult with a skin doctor for things you aren't sure of"

In addition to these lifestyle tips, skin experts say that the best way to care for your skin is to cleanse it as often as possible, or at least on a daily basis. They note, however, that the choice of skin cleanser is critical in having healthy skin. Choose the one that's mild and with less chemicals. Make up must be totally removed before cleansing and always use only lukewarm water.

Acne Skin Care Methods

Acne can be a painful and embarrassing condition for a person to be afflicted with. Often, a person who has acne cannot control its occurrence. But, by following a few acne skin care practices, acne can be controlled and even gotten rid of. Acne is an inflammatory skin disease that affects millions of individuals. The most universal type of acne is known as "common acne". Acne is caused when too many oils are secreted from the glands and those oils mix with dead skin cells, blocking the hair follicles. More oil secretions increase underneath the already blocked follicles (or pores), and skin bacteria begin to grow rapidly. This leads to red and irritated skin that most often appears as bumps on the skin's surface. Any skin surface of the body is susceptible to acne, but it most commonly (and heavily) appears on the face, chest, back, and upper arm region.

Acne commonly begins to occur during puberty due to an irregular response by the body to regular levels of testosterone, a male hormone. Often, acne begins to subside or disappear altogether by the mid 20's. However, some individuals do suffer with it throughout adulthood. And some adults do not even see the onset of acne until well into the adult years. This is known as adult onset acne.

Acne can leave scarring on the skin, as well as have a scarring effect on a person's self-esteem, and even lead to depression. Because society can be so unforgiving about appearances, there are various medically prescribed treatments available, as well as acne skin care regimens that can be utilized in order to minimize the symptoms of acne.

There are many treatments for acne available, both through prescription, and over the counter. There are antibiotics in the form of pills, as well as topical creams that are designed to treat the condition. Exfoliation can be used as a treatment to remove and prevent the build up of dead skin cells. And light therapy is being used more and more to treat acne. It is important to consult a dermatologist in order to determine the best course of treatment and learn the best regimen of acne skin care to carry out.

Dealing with the occurrence of acne requires knowing how to properly care for the skin. Acne skin care can help keep the problem from getting worse, and even alleviate it. It is important to gently wash the skin at least twice a day with a gentle skin cleanser. Do not scrub with a rough pad or use a rough soap. This will make the acne problem worse. And always completely rinse the skin after cleansing.

As part of an acne skin care routine, it is important to remember not to touch the afflicted skin areas. Do not try to squeeze acne. An infection could occur, compounding the problem, and scarring could result. Also, avoid the sun when possible. Wear protective clothing to avoid tanning or burning. The skin will age faster, and any fading effect of the acne is temporary and will become visible again when the burn or tan fades.

When using cosmetics, take care to use oil-free products, and products that are non-comedogenic (won't clog the pores). And for men who shave their faces, it is important to shave very carefully. Shave with a light hand to avoid cutting or nicking the blemishes. If these steps in acne skin care are taken, the pain and embarrassment of the problem can be alleviated, and over time, eliminated completely.
