Cold weather’s great for a lot of things: snowboarding, skiing, or just relaxing by a fire. But unfortunately it can also seriously damage your skin. Falling temperatures, chilling winds, and overheating in your home can all work to dry out and crack your face and body’s surface. Luckily, there are simple steps you can take to maintain your skin’s health during the long, winter months.
The key to keeping skin healthy in cold weather is to keep it hydrated. Colder air has less moisture in it and this causes skin to dry and chap easily. Make up for this lack of hydration by moisturizing twice as much as you do during warmer months. Consider purchasing a humidifier to replace moisture in your home’s air.
Keep skin protected from outside elements like cold and wind by covering up your face and body well, and use lip protection regularly to avoid chapping. Even though it’s cold, don’t forget to use sunscreen; ultraviolet rays are still strong during the winter and glare from snow can also cause skin damage.
For very dry feet, try moisturizing, then covering them with light cotton socks just before you go to bed. Your skin’s pores will absorb the moisturizer better when covered, rather than allowing the moisturizer to evaporate into the air.
And finally, while it’s tempting to take extra precautions against the season’s colds and illnesses, reduce your use of antibacterial gels and wipes. They contain alcohol, which robs skin of moisture.

Summer Skin Care
Sunlight has been clinically tested to improve moods and increase your body’s vitamin D production and endorphin release. But while everyone wants a glowing tan, the sun can also seriously damage your skin if you don’t take precautions. Here’s some simple guidelines for capturing that perfect tan and not frying your skin.
Still Lose Weight - I know that taking steps to better your life is not always easy. It takes courage to do this. Sometimes it's easier just to keep in the mind set of surviving and do what you've always done. When you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten.
This means your skin will be protected from both UVA and UVB rays.
- The most important factor when picking a sunscreen is to get one that has an SPF of 15 or higher and broad-spectrum protection.
- Chemical-free physical sunblocks that contain ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide reflect harmful rays without reacting with the skin. This means they don’t cause allergic reactions and don’t sting the eyes if they run due to swimming or sweating.
- Regularly exfoliating your skin removes the outer layer of dead cells and allows you to achieve a more even tan. However, this also causes your skin to burn more easily, so don’t scrub yourself right before tanning.
- Lips can chap as easily from sunburn as from exposure to cold and dry air, so make sure to use a lip protection with an SPF of 15 or higher.
- Sunscreen should be applied 20 minutes before you go out into the sun to allow the skin time to absorb it. After a half an hour outside, it should be applied again for maximum protection. Most sunscreens only last about two hours, so make sure to apply it regularly, especially if swimming or sweating heavily. Even “waterproof” brands lose their potency after an hour in the water.
- Sand and water can reflect up to 90% of the sun’s rays, so give your skin extra protection when at the beach. A stronger SPF is also recommended for higher altitudes, since the air is thinner and sun exposure more intense.
- Don’t forget to apply sunscreen to sensitive areas like the tops of your feet, backs of your ears and neck, and areas of the scalp and hairline if your hair is thin or thinning.

Essential Oils How To Use - Aromatherapy Skin Care
First, please remember that essential oils should never be applied neat (undiluted) to your skin. There are absolutely NO exceptions to this! This includes the soles of your feet or palms of your hands. When using oils neat for inhalation purposes please exercise care and dispense your oils on a tissue or cotton ball for direct inhalation.
AROMATHERAPY SKIN CARE METHODS FOR FACIAL CLEANSING AND CELLULAR RENEWAL:
FACIAL STEAM ~ Pour this "HOT" mixture into a stainless steel mixing bowl and lean with your face forward, over the bowl being sure to cover your head with a towel to catch the steam on your face.
Breath in the steam and relax, enjoying your facial steam until the waters cool. Or you may use your oils in a facial steamer. PLEASE NOTE: Essential oils are not water soluble you must use a dispersant when adding them to a facial steam or bath. Water may cause the oils to penetrate your system more quickly or cause irritation to sensitive or damaged skin, i.e. blemishes, sores or rash. FACIAL MASQUE ~ Add 2-3 drops of essential oils to moistened clay, honey, mashed avocado, or egg white.
Dampen your face lightly and apply your facial masque. Leave on for 10-15 minutes until your masque begins to dry and harden slightly. Wash your facial masque thoroughly off your face. Your face will look and feel more toned, fresh and hydrated. Repeat once a week for healthy and toned skin!
FACIAL OIL BLEND ~
Add up to 10 drops of essential oil blend, depending upon your skin type, to one ounce of your favorite carrier oil. I prefer Certified Organic Filtered and Unscented Jojoba oil which is most like your skin's own natural sebum. Frankincense is good for all skin types. German Chamomile is excellent for sensitive skin. Rose is wonderful for mature skin, as is Frankincense.Apply your facial oil blend lightly to target areas for intensive therapy to nourish and heal facial skin.
SKIN BRUSHING ~
Invigorates your skin, and stimulates your lymphatic system. Apply 1 drop of (lavender, frankincense, rose or geranium - all are excellent for skin care) in 1 Tablespoon of honey and apply mixture to your natural bristle skin brush and brush your skin.Make sure your gentle, yet brisk brush strokes are upward, toward your heart. Brush your entire body from the tips of your toes and fingers to the top of your shoulders. Include the front and back sides of your body as you breathe deeply.
Enjoy the wonderful tingling sensations dancing across your skin. Always be sure to work from your extremities upwards, toward your heart. Gently, yet briskly, cover your entire body, omitting your face and neck in the process of this cleansing and uplifting ritual. Skin brushing is especially effective just before you shower.
Properly administered essential oils are a natural, safe and effective way to enhance your health and well-being and can produce satisfying results where other methods have failed. During that time she has facilitated healing for thousands of people suffering from personal trauma, illness and injury. When choosing a skin care regimen, it is important to use all of the steps from the same brand because they are formulated to work together. Don’t use a piece of this set and a piece of that set. Also, be sure to use ALL the steps in a skin care set. You wouldn’t bake a cake and leave out the flour, would you?
Wash your face thoroughly before applying makeup and glamour cosmetics. Give yourself a nice facial. An artist wouldn’t paint a masterpiece on a stained or dingy canvas, right? When applying your facial skin care cleanser, use light strokes so as not to tug on your skin. Mask should not be applied too close to the mouth or the eye area. Toner and moisturizer round out the facial and now you’re ready for foundation and color cosmetics.
True beauty comes from within, and makeup and cosmetics simply enhance that. If your skin care and beauty routine doesn’t involve a lot of glamour makeup, don’t worry. A few shades of neutral or sheer cosmetics will give you that special glow and look of natural beauty. Pay attention to your manicure and pedicure as well. For goodness sakes, don’t fall asleep with makeup or cosmetics on. It’s estimated that for every night you do, your skin ages by 12 days! Give yourself a quick facial before you hit the sheets. It’s called skin CARE for a reason.

Skin Care - Look Young Forever By Keeping Your Acid Mantle Healthy
Skin care and acid mantle
What is acid mantle and why it is important for healthy skin? We all hear so much about pH-balanced products. How do they affect acid mantle? And how do we look young? If you know how to take care of the protective acid mantle, you have won half the battle. Let me tell you how?
Skin oils and acid mantle
Skin secretes sebum and sweat. Both of these combine to create a protective film on the skin, which is called acid mantle. The mixture is acidic and its pH is between 4 to 5.5. Because of this acidity of this film, bacteria get killed and cannot attack the skin. Bacteria love alkalinity and the acid keeps them away. The acid mantle also protects skin from losing its moisture. If we strip the acid mantle away that can cause a lot of damage to our young looking skin.
Skin acid mantle- how do we strip it?
We strip the acid mantle by using alkaline soaps and cleansers. Sun exposure also strips the acid mantle. Those who have little oily skin are in a great rush to remove all the skin oils and manage to strip the oily acid mantle away. This exposes skin not only to bacteria but also the chances of triggering eczema etc. increases substantially.
Acne and acid mantle
Many of those who have acne wash their face frequently. As a result they dry their skin totally. The acne may not go away, but the protective acid mantle surely goes away exposing the skin to more infections. Keep a healthy acid mantle on the skin and protect yourself. Use AHA mixed cleansers to maintain the acidity of the skin and use pH balanced products to keep skin young forever. This article is only for informative purposes. Today beauty rules. Beauty products never had it better. Products ranges are increasing and so are the prices. The consumer today is asking for more. More products are being launched in the market to achieve the dream to remain young forever. The eternal dream of remaining forever young is keeping an entire industry's cash register ringing. Facial skin care products are most in demand. The face being the first part of the anatomy of a human being which gets exposed, judged and screened, when he or she meets another is also taken most care of. There are a host of products available in the market which try and satisfy the desires of the user.
Very hot water evaporates quickly and can dehydrate skin. Make sure to put on moisturizer within five minutes of stepping out of the shower to lock in moisture. Clean your face with a gentle liquid face wash, rather than soap, which can dry out your skin. Look for products that contain hydrating ingredients like aloe and glycerin, which help replenish skin’s moisture.
The face is divided into ten zones as per the beauty industry. There is a product available in the industry to take care of each of them. The segregation of these products is based on skin type, pigmentation level, coarseness of the skin etc. Today, facial products are available for a varying combination of skin types like the dry skin, the oily skin, the normal skin and a combination skin (whatever it means). They are also available based on the climatic condition prevailing in a particular region. There are cold creams, scrubs, moisturizers and a host of other products available in the market to satiate the demand of every customer.
The facial care market starts from the anti-aging cream and a cold cream. They are used to reduce the effect of age and wrinkles on the face. They hydrate the skin and make it more elastic. Next come the eye gels. It helps reduce puffiness and dark circles under the eyes through bio complex and anti oxidant ingredients present in them. Continued use of eye gels also helps to minimize fine lines and wrinkles on the applied part. Face toners, the next product which is very popular, hydrate and rebalance the skin by promoting regeneration of skin cells.
Skin peeling products containing naturally present acids are next in line. They are used to peel off dead skin and help new one come up on the surface. They are available based on the type of the skin of the user. Cleansing gels are used instead of soap due to its advertised properties. These are usually available in non-soap, non-oil based cleaners variants and include vitamin C and E. They are claimed to be very useful for removing make up, and producing a vitalizing glow.
Moisturizers come next and very popular in dry and cold climatic conditions. There are special formulations for day and night which provide day and night softening effect respectively. They also provide an improvement in the tone, color and clarity of the skin. They help to rebuild collagen and elastin and afford protection from the sun. Exfoliation is achieved by using facial cleansers which are available in a variety of variants. They range from scrubby kinds to soft and smooth ones. Then come the lip beautifying products like the lips stick, the all time favorite. Lip Sticks also come in a variety of tone, color and shade to suite the individual need of the person using it. Sun screens are another product that has caught the fancy of people around the world and especially in tropical and sunny locations.
The beauty industry has matured and the human body is seen as a master piece of god's creation. The face is its mirror and the facial care products the tools to keep the mirror shining and clean. The products are available today to suit the demand, range and pocket of all users. Use it to look at a better tomorrow.
