Choosing Skin Care Products for You and Baby
Pregnancy and Baby Skin Care Products - the Do's and Don'ts Do
* Be aware of ingredients that are commonly associated with reactions on delicate skin such as sulphates (ingredients that cause a product to foam), lanolin, peanut oil and mineral oil
* Look for the 'Certified Organic' logo on pregnancy and baby related skin products to ensure that the manufacturer has been certified properly - many products claim to be 'natural' or 'organic' but can still contain a high level of irritating ingredients
* Look for products that use recycled packaging or whose packaging can be recycled - we all know it makes sense.
* Use the application of lotion as a time to bond with your partner, a time for your partner to bond with baby and when baby is born a time for you to all bond with each other. Don't
* Use general, adult toiletry products on new born babies as they are manufactured using higher amounts of perfumes, alcohol, added colours and other ingredients that can potentially be irritating to an infant's paper-thin skin.
* Believe that because products are 'Certified Organic' they have to be more expensive than those bought on supermarket shelves. The 'Pure Baby' cream from Koochie Koo is certified organic and only costs £7.50.
* Be afraid to use unscented or plain base products on babies' skin. Your baby will smell just as yummy and his/her skin will be much happier.
* Hesitate to ask your doctor or nurse for advise - they will obviously only recommend the products they have tried and tested but will also give you guidance on new products you may have identified. Information provided by www.koochiekoo.co.uk

Dry skin, formally known as xerosis, can appear anywhere on your body, ranging from your face, to your arms and legs, to your feet. Dry skin has a low level of sebum, the oil naturally produced by the skin to keep it lubricated. Because of dry skin's inability to retain moisture, it is usually chapped, cracked and feels tight, especially after washing.
* Remember that residues from everything you put on your skin can be absorbed into your body and during pregnancy residues may filter through from your blood stream to your growing baby. During breast feeding residues can filter through your milk.
Dry skin can be caused by many factors. Some people are genetically inclined to dry skin. Poor diet and nutritional deficiencies contribute to parched skin. Exposure to the elements, such as sun, wind, cold and chemicals, can dry out your skin. Medical conditions, such as diabetes and an underactive thyroid can cause dehydrated skin, as well as skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.
You should be gentle with your dry skin care treatment. Cleansing is important, but harsh soaps should be avoided, as well as hot water. A skin cleanser formulated for dry skin, coupled with lukewarm water, is the best way to wash up and should be done twice daily. Avoid vigorous scrubbing and rubbing with washcloths and towels so that a layer of moisture remains on your skin. Follow up with a moisturizer and consider using one with a sunscreen of at least SPF15 to protect your skin from sun exposure during the day.
There are several other helpful ways to hydrate parched skin. Using a humidifier in your home can improve the condition of your skin by keeping the surface hydrated. Avoid detergents with harsh chemicals and strong fragrances, which can irritate your skin. Wear clothing that is made of breathable, natural materials, such as cotton, and avoid itchy fabrics, such as nylon or wool. Drink at least six to eight glasses of water per day to keep your entire body properly hydrated. Finally, a healthy, well-balanced diet that is rich is vitamins A, B5 and C supports healthy skin and overall body fitness.
With a little extra care and attention, your dry skin can be supple, well-nourished and beautiful.
Oily Skin Care Treatment Information
The sebaceous glands in your skin form an oil called sebum, which lubricates and protects the surface of your skin. When the glands are overproductive and form too much sebum, your skin can appear greasy, shiny and course, with large pores and more frequent breakouts. This condition is known as oily skin.
Oily skin can be caused by a wide variety of factors, including genetics, fluctuating hormone levels, dietary choices, certain cosmetics and hot, humid weather. Although oily skin is prevalent in teenagers because skin becomes dryer with age, it can occur at any age. When your skin is oily only in certain areas, this is known as combination skin. The one advantage of having oily skin is that it tends to age at a slower rate than any other type of skin.
For oily skin care treatment, it is imperative to cleanse oily skin two to three times per day. Gentle cleansers with lukewarm water work best to remove oils without stripping the surface of the skin. A gentle astringent or toner should be used after cleansing. Finally, a light moisturizer that is not oil-based can be used in areas prone to dryness, such as around the eyes and mouth. Since oily skin tends to be scaly, the use of a mask twice a week can be very helpful in deep cleansing the pores and removing dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. Another great technique for cleansing the pores is to steam your face over hot water for several minutes twice a week. This loosens the sebum in clogged pores and makes your skin look cleaner and more vital.
Healthy living habits can also improve the appearance and condition of oily skin. Drinking six to eight glasses of water per day, regular exercise and sleep and avoiding cigarettes are good ways to have beautiful skin. Supplementing your diet with vitamins A, B, C, E and zinc also promote healthy skin. With a little extra attention, you can dramatically improve the condition and appearance of your oily skin. If these ideas do not help and your skin remains prone to constant breakouts, you may have a skin condition known as acne, which requires additional care and treatment.
Antiaging Skin Care Treatment Information
Your individual genetics determine how quickly your skin ages and show signs of aging. Signs of aging skin include fine wrinkles, dry and itchy skin, thinness and transparency of skin and the inability to sweat enough to cool the surface of the skin. There are two types of aging, intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic aging is determined by your genes and is also referred to as the natural aging process. Extrinsic aging is external and is caused by the presence of various environmental factors.
Intrinsic aging factors are inevitable since they are defined by heredity so there is no way to change their natural course. However, extrinsic aging factors can be controlled by your behaviors and habits so as to slow down the aging process and prevent signs of premature aging. Sun exposure, facial expressions, cigarette smoking and even sleeping positions can cause your skin to age and form wrinkles. Gravity also plays a part in aging skin because of its constant pull on our bodies, coupled with the inevitable decline in elasticity in your skin in your 50's, causing effects such as droopy eyelids and jowls.
There are several ways to help aging skin with antiaging skin care treatment. Avoiding the sun and artificial tanning can help to keep your skin healthy and hydrated. Gentle cleansing twice a day and using a moisturizer with a sunscreen of SPF 15 or better can block harmful ultraviolet rays from damaging your skin. Avoiding or quitting cigarettes can halt the biological changes caused by smoking and improve the appearance of your skin. Resting your face on your pillow the same way for years can lead to wrinkles, so changing your position can reduce the likelihood of such fine lines that can be etched into the skin over time.
Finally, healthy living overall is a key factor in slowing down the aging process of your skin. Drinking six to eight glasses of water per day, regular exercise, proper sleep habits and a well-balanced diet will reflect on your skin and slow down the extrinsic aging process. It is also important to take vitamin supplements that contain Vitamin A, B and E to maintain the well-being of your skin and body health.
Aging is inevitable but with the right habits, you can make your skin look its very best at any age.
While skin care is always important it is even more important when you are dealing with a bout of acne. By taking care of your skin you can reduce the amount of issues associated with acne. To keep your skin healthy you must keep it clean as well as protect if from sources of damage like excessive exposure to sunlight and irritating cosmetics.
Cleaning The Skin
You should wash your face once or twice a day with a gentle soap or specialized cleaner. If you aggressively scrub the skin of your face when you clean it you will only aggravate the acne. Just moisten you face with a soft cloth and then apply the soap or cleanser to your entire face and forehead. Be sure to completely rinse the cleaner from your face with generous amounts of water and then gently pat it dry.
If you have extremely oily skin you might want to consider the using an astringent. If you choose to use one you should use it with care, only apply it to the areas of your skin where excessive oil is present and discontinue using it if there is any irritation. It is advisable to consult a dermatologist before electing to use an astringent.
Taking care of your hair is an important aspect of skin care. You should wash and shampoo your hair at least two or three times a week, if you have especially oily hair you may need to wash it daily. You should also try to keep your hair off of y our face as much as possible.
Rosacea is more common in men and women with fair skin and is common in all skins in sunny countries. Although there are no treatments for Rosacea, but it can be stopped from getting worse by identifying and avoiding its triggers that are responsible for causing Rosacea. It is very important to follow a treatment plan to determine the triggers responsible for Rosacea. The most important tip is to use the right natural treatments. By using the right natural treatment you can reduce or eliminate Rosacea.
Protect Yourself From the Sun
Developing a suntan my make your skin appear to dry out and reduce your acne problems but this is only temporary. Once your skin has become accustomed to the exposure to the sun your acne will flare up again. Of course this exposure to the ultra-violet rays from the sun may be damaging your skin causing it to age prematurely and possibly even lead to the development of skin cancer. For these reasons it is important to always wear sunscreen if you will be exposed to the sun.
Selecting Your Makeup
No makeup at all is the best option for healthy skin, however if you feel you must wear makeup then be sure to find some that does not clog pores. Makeup products that do not clog your pores should be labeled as noncomedogenic. Even noncomedogenic makeup will cause acne in some people. You should never wear any makeup that has an oil base, as this will only aggravate your acne. Use makeup as sparingly as possible and be sure to always read and follow the directions.
Shaving You should try both electric and safety blade razors to determine which one is most comfortable for you. If you use a safety razor be sure to keep the blades sharp, you should change blades every two or three shaves. Soften the hairs as much as possible with water and shaving cream and be sure to shave around any lesions to avoid cutting them. During times of severe acne breakouts it might be best to skip shaving.
Touching Your Skin
Many people thing that it is best to squeeze pimples to pop them but this is not true. Popping your pimples will only spread the bacteria in them leading to even more lesions plus popping them increases the risk of permanent scars. You should also avoid touch your face as much as possible this only increases the oil and bacteria on your facial skin. Acne can be treated and in many cases controlled, take care of your skin as much as possible to assist in treating and controlling the acne.

The good news is that Rosacea is now treatable with some topical antibiotic. But, one of course must consult a dermatologist before going for any ointment or medicines inorder to avoid adverse affects. When it comes to your face, keep in mind, never experiment with it.
