Proper dog nutrition is not categorized the same for all ages, sizes and breeds. Each breed has it's dietary recommendation as well as the suggested number of feedings per day. These recommendations can also be customized to the size and age group of your dog. However, there are some general guidelines you can follow in order to provide proper dog nutrition with a balanced diet. A dog's protein intake depends highly on his age. Your dog won't need more than 25 percent if he's a puppy or over 22 percent for dogs that get moderate exercise, although, older dogs will require more. Consult your vet for the proper protein intake for your dog. Many dog foods also contain a high amount of salt. Read the label on your dog's food to make sure he/she is not getting too much salt because it can result in heart disease.
Most dogs are fed two times a day. Some prefer to eat once a day. Your dog will display to you which he prefers simply by refusing to eat during one of his feedings. Puppies, however, require three to four feedings per day in order to develop bone growth and provide proper dog nutrition.
One thing about dogs is that they can eat, and eat, and eat, and eat and never know when they are full. Avoid giving your dog too much to eat. Once a dog becomes obese, it is very difficult to make them lose weight. Your dog can also develop a host of medical problems, such as high blood sugar, abnormal bone development, diabetes, heart problems, just to name a few.
Choose a reputable, high quality, dry dog food with the recommended daily allowance for your dog's age, breed, size and weight. You can obtain this information from your vet. Along with daily feedings, give your dog a multi-vitamin in order to promote good health and normal growth. Feed your dog in a stainless steel bowl. Be sure to clean your dog's bowl with soap and water every day or two. These bowls are a breeding ground for bacteria. Plastic and ceramic bowls are not recommended.
Your dog should always have water in his bowl, although, while training, you can remove the water bowl at night in order to lessen the probability of night-time urinating. Offer your dog bite-sized snacks throughout the day for training purposes. Don't overdo the snacks. Proper dog nutrition is necessary in helping to keep your dog's health in check and preventing costly trips to the vet.

Do Not Allow an Extended Stay Away from Home to Disrupt a Nutrition Plan
Nutrition plans are most important for diabetics, the obese and those recovering from high blood pressure. Folk recovering from long spells of illness and those advised to put on weight need to eat and drink to a plan as well. It is easier to stick with a nutrition plan when eating out of known kitchens, than to choose from exotic restaurant menus on a long trip away from home, either on vacation or on a long business trip.
Most people are quick to start counting their blessings of the loving care of a spouse who keeps tabs on calories and recommended daily intakes, when left to fend on their own in a strange place!
The joys of a fine meal from an entirely new school of cuisine can quickly turn in to a nightmare, as the number of days away from the comforting security of home food and the family dining table grow. Having to choose meals from lavish buffet tables, or from menus which are not in English, can wreck a nutrition plan beyond repair!
It need not be so.
Just as a nutrition expert plans meals for patients convalescing in hospital, you too can eat well and wisely in a foreign place. It does need a bit of prior planning and research though! Working on how you will stay with the essentials of your nutrition plan can make the anticipation of your sojourn in a new place all the more exciting! You can always ask the nutrition and diet expert to work things out for you, but you may well find that it is fun to work on at least parts of the plan on your own.
Here are some tips on how you can eat and drink well in a new place without affecting the calorie values and nutrition balance of your diet:
1. Separate socializing and experimenting from the serious business of eating meals! Take tiny portions of food which you do not know, when you are with friends and associates. People may force you to taste exotic dishes, the exchange values of which you do not know. You may also wish to sample attractive plating out of sheer curiosity. This is fine, but keep a stock of packaged foods which are either ready to eat, or which can be just heated and served. Make it a point to build a sufficient inventory of familiar food with comprehensive labeling before you leave town. Eat regular meals of known calorie and nutrition values on the sly, on your own, before or after every social meal. Hosts may feel hurt if they come to know, but your health counts for more than their feelings! Besides, you can always present your special health condition as a justification for carrying your own food. It is really no different from carrying your own clothes on a trip!
2. Foods to choose: barbecues and all forms of food preparation that are finished in your presence, are best when it comes to social eating in a strange place. You can always ask the chef to go easy with the oil or fat and the spices as well! Hot, freshly prepared food is safe and relatively nutritious, no matter where you are in the world! Large portions of vegetables and small ones of white meat, with a variety of local seasoning, should see you through a long session of dining with little harm to your overall diet for the day. Do take small morsels in your mouth at a time, and chew on them like a cow, to make your plate last for ever! Join in every snatch of conversation, so that there is little time left to gorge on any delicious stuff!
3. The best beverages: you simply cannot go wrong with herbal tea, since roasted coffee beans of the kind you get at home, are rare. Each community has its own way of brewing coffee, and some milky and sugary tastes take time to acquire! Do keep a pack of sugar substitute globules in a pocket, for the brand that suits your palate may not be globally distributed. Sampling wine is great if you are in France, California or Long Island, but it is diplomatically wise to opt to nurse a beer in the midst of upstarts who think that they know their wine! Unsweetened fruit juice is fair game by day, but be wary of squashes and concentrates diluted with water of uncertain quality. Make it a point to hydrate your body with all the reliable bottled water you can find when you cross time zones, for it will help you overcome the stress with speed. This is especially important when you take a trans-continental flight, spending many hours in a chamber with compressed and heated air.
4. Red lights: it is common knowledge to stay away from stale food, but attractive plates of cold cuts and fresh salads may hide denizens of microscopic bugs that can play havoc with your digestion. Each community acquires a degree of immunity to local microbes, but that is a part of ethnic culture that you do not need to imbibe! Scurrying to the toilet can be a most embarrassing and inconvenient disappointment to the most eagerly awaited trip to a new place; every precaution to avoid this is worth your while. Stay away from thick gravies, no matter which genre of cuisine you encounter, and steel yourself to use the smallest dessert spoons anywhere, if you cannot resist the dessert. Straight to coffee after an entrée is the way to go!
5. Correcting excess: there is no perfection in life, and it is human to err. The longest sermon can be forgotten in the right surroundings, and a persuasive host or hostess may break the strongest resolve! How do you atone for sinful eating? Skip regular diet that you have packed as we discussed earlier, to make up for indulgences that you could not avoid. Make up with fluids though, for your body still needs plenty of water when dealing with a skipped meal. A pack of high fiber biscuits will always come in handy, as will fresh fruit which has been duly washed and cleaned. Remember that a heavy meal takes time and effort to digest, so you will need at least one extra hour for sleep 'the night after'. Low intensity, long duration exercise in fresh air, works wonders as well!
Long trips away from home, whether for pleasure or business, are important for us to achieve important goals in life. Planning to keep your nutrition in good order is amongst the most important things that should be on your agenda. Expert advice, careful thought and a detailed shopping list for your supermarket, will last you years of good health, and could be your most valuable investment in the forthcoming event.

Are you ready to work on your food and nutrition for acne?
I ask this, because there are certain foods and eating habits that help your body fight acne! And there are certain foods that you really should cut out of your diet. Those foods give acne a foot hold over your skin and we really don't want acne to have any hold on any part of your body, now do we.
Let's start with breakfast.
It truely is
the most important meal of the day. OK with that said, let's start
with the foods that you eat for breakfast which should be eliminated
or at least eaten as a treat more than as a staple of this meal. Pop
tarts, sugared cerals, corn syrup on your pancakes, waffles and french
toast, soft fatty saugage links, soft fatty bacon, bleached flour,
granulated sugar, jellies and jams made with fructose corn syrup, coffee,
chocolate and any breakfast food that has artifical ingredients. Sounds
terrible! What are you going to eat for breakfast? I know it sounds
awful, but really it's not so bad. Instead of your instant cereal in
a box, buy millet, rice bran, and rolled whole oats. Cook as directed,
and for sweetener use 1 tablespoon of 100% real maple syrup, and cut
up an apple or a handful of blueberries to mix it in. Another option
is to make some eggs any style, with some breakfast meat. I suggest
turkey saugage, turkey bacon, or ham, something lean. Use olive oil
and do not fry your foods in lard or in the meat drippings! Fry up
some of the leftover pot roast, and mix it with your eggs, then have
some whole grain bread for toast.
Ok I've given you a selection and options for changing your nutrition. You say, I don't have that kind of time in the morning to cook. Ok, then drink breakfast, and take five minutes to make yourself a scrambled egg sandwich minus the butter. Spread some vitamin E oil or olive oil on your toast instead of butter. Drink my breakfast? Yes, drink your breakfast. In other words juice some acne fighting fruits and vegetables. Two very good juice recipes for fighting acne are, Carrot Celery Lemon Juice and Cucumber Endive Pineapple Juice. You'll be suprised at the increase in your energy levels too. So let's summarize your acne fighting breakfast foods: millet, rice bran, whole rolled oats, whole grain breads, eggs, lean meats, cucumbers, lemons, apples, blueberries, carrots, endive, and pineapples.
I'm sure you can find all types of breakfast nutrition
combinations with the list of foods you've just read, but here are a
few. Fresh pineaple waffles with lemon, french toast or pancakes (made
with whole grain flour), sweeten with real maple syrup, hot oatmeal with
apples and maple syrup, cold millet and rice bran ceral with milk and
maple syrup, turkey bacon and eggs, a turkey sauage scramble with whole
wheat toast, toast and apple butter, apple sauce and oatmeal, and how
about a fluffy ham and green pepper omelet. All of these will fill you
up and at the same time help your body fight acne.
This is a meal that many of us skip and really it's a bad idea to skip it! Instead, let's skip the fast food takeout places all together or at least 6 days out of the week. Brown bag it and save those take-out places as a treat, an indulgence. Skip the cola drinks and pops, and put those chips aside for the football game only. So now what? You've taken all the food I eat for lunch away! Well, that maybe so, but you want to get healthy skin and get rid of that acne, right? I thought so! Your going to brown bag your lunch, and if you don't know what that means think back to your childhood, or watch the honeymooners if your to young to remember your dad and his lunch pale and thermos.
If you don't have a lunch pale, get one! And get a cool
one with your favorite manga of supper hero on it! Fill it with a salad
made with cucumbers, roast turkey, romaine lettuce, a squeeze of lemon,
or maybe a sandwich with whole grain bread grilled with olive oil, served
with lettuce, ham, and a slice of tomato. And for that thermos, fill
it with Carrot Lemon Celery Juice or Carrot Apple Ginger Juice. Now,
instead of the twinkie or ding dong, eat a nice ripe juicy plum, pear,
a hand full of blueberries, or mango. And once a week treat yourself
to a fast food hamburger and fries or a slice of pizza, but only once
a week! You still have to have some things that are just plain fun!
So let's recap the lunch acne fighting foods for clear younger more radiat skin! Whole grain breads, olive oil, roast meats, romaine lettuce, lemon, all ripe fruits and berries, celery, carrots, and ginger. Making your lunch is easy, and it helps you fight the dreaded whiteheads too! So brown bag it! It's as easy as filling your lunch pale with the power of nutrition to rid your skin of acne!
Now for supper or dinner,
the last big meal of the day!
Read your labels! Frozen dinners can be very healthy, but again we want
to stay away from artificial ingredients, bleached flours, added sugar,
loads of fats. In other words save the pizza for the world series or
a birthday party. Roast or grill rather than pan fry. Easier to clean
up and easier on you. How? Fix the roast the night before, and have the
first person home throw it in the oven. By the time you get home, you'll
be able to take it out and have a healthy nutrition rich meal in minutes.
I say roast rather than pan fry, because roasting not only seals in the
flavors, but also the nutrition, while at the same time reduces the bad
fats. Always put a rack under any fatty meats so the drippings can be
disposed of easily and the meat doesn't sit in the grease.
If you really must have pizza,
you might want to bake
a homemade pizza made with whole grain flour and yeast, topped with lean
turkey pastrami, some turkey sausage, a few slices of Canadian bacon
or honey roasted ham. Just before serving, add a few slices of fresh
pineapple. Another suggestion is a pot roast with mashed potatoes, carrots
and asparagus. Blanche the asparagus, and save the water to wash your
face in before you go to bed. It makes a wonderful facial wash! Eating
the asparagus will help your body fight acne. Sprinkle some amaranth
on the your dinner, and serve some roasted garlic as an appetizer, or
spread it over a whole grain baguette. Serve a Caesar salad and don't
forget the egg. You might ask why eggs and garlic? They are both rich
in sulfur, an active agent that fight bacteria.
Another way to cook your meat is to grill it, and grilled vegetables are just de-lish too. Serve green beans, or for that matter any kind of beans, with the exception of refried beans that have been fried in lard. Vegetarian refried beans are OK.
So let's recap the acne fighting foods for dinner: Asparagus, amaranth, garlic, lean meats roasted not fried, eggs, romaine lettuce, dandelion leaves, potatoes baked, boiled or mashed potatoes, carrots, beans and legumes, green beans, and all ripe fresh fruits and berries.
This opens the door for you chefs out there, to learn the fine art of roasting again, and not to over cook the asparagus, green beans, or dandelion leaves. Use food and nutrtion to help you fight acne for clear, younger more radiant skin. It's a healthy way to eat as well!
Foods we want to avoid
include fatty foods. Such as
donuts, fast food, high fat dressings, high fat meats, foods made with
bleached flour, such as white bread, many cakes, cookies and biscuits.
Avoid things made with white granulated sugar, most types of desserts
and ice creams, things made with fructose corn syrup, most brands of
jellies and jams, most breakfast syrups, candies and chocolate need I
say more? Avoid coffee, and fried foods. Foods we want to eat are meats
that are roasted to perfection, lean meats for sandwiches, and salads.
Eat sweet juicy ripe fresh fruits and berries of all kinds, asparagus,
green beans, carrots, garlic, beans or legumes of any kind, potatoes,
and whole grains. That includes whole grain breads, cakes, cookies and
biscuits. Use olive oil and vitamin E oils as a spread in place of butter
and/or lard, and don't forget brown rice.
Remember to indulge a little.
Once week go out and treat yourself to some of those things that have the "bad" in them. If your eating the right foods 6 out of 7 days, the wrong foods 1 out of 7 days won't hurt your skin at all. You don't want to deprive yourself, because that just might lead you to a binge and that will allow acne a foot hold on your skin. Just don't over indulge. Think of the food to avoid as the once a week indulgences, and the foods that fight acne, as your weekly staples, and you'd be surprised at how much easier your acne can be controlled.
The health benefits and nutrition of the potato
The potato, is it the ultimate root veggie?
What do the potato and the avocado have
in common? Well, they are both multipliers. No, the potato isn't a fruit
like the avocado. It is definitely a vegetable, a root vegetable to be
more precise. The potato should be considered nature's perfect vegetable.
Professor Hinhede of Denmark proved that you could live on potatoes as a sole food for an extensive period of time. He and his assistant did it for three years during World War II. Don't peel your potatoes!!!! Most of the nutrition of the potato, mineral and vitamin content is in or near the skin!
Potatoes are a most important source of potassium, a salt that is needed for good health. It is considered a protective vegetable for it is very high in vitamin C, another very important vitamin indeed. The health benefits of the potato are far reaching! When making mashed potatoes try this: Bake them until soft at 400 degrees, then add olive oil or sweet butter (which ever you are more partial to, olive oil is a bit more healthy, but taste counts) and mash skin and all until creamy. Salt and pepper to taste.
Potatoes are considered a starch food, so instead of rice or bread with dinner make it a potato, but remember they are a multiplier, so watch those calories!
Nutrition of Cold Cereals
US Government Pleased that Children get Their Nutrition from Cold Cereal Each Morning

The government has stated in various ways that they are please that children get their nutrition from cold cereal, and cold milk each morning. Unfortunately nothing could be more wrong than spreading this untruth to a gullible public. Mr. Kellogg was the person that invented cold cereal - flakes, Os, stars, shredded something. or nuts - many years ago. The process evolved by taking grains and stripping all the nutrients from it, making a slurry, adding chemically manufactured vitamins (which are useless) and trace minerals that are metallic and almost non-absorbable in human beings.
The process of manufacturing involves extrusion. The slurry is forced through an orifice at high temperature and high pressure. The temperature and pressure destroys every nutrient from the grain and even the chemical vitamins and the trace minerals. Unfortunately this manufactured product has sugar added to a lot of it and then fed to our children with milk (I will get to this topic in a few more paragraphs).
The latest commercials are promoting whole grains used in these cold cereals as if that is an improvement (whole grains are better than the striped down no nutrition). The problem is that the extrusion process still leaves zero nutrition in the finished product
As for all the souls that believe in organic cereals (I am very much in favor of organic products as compared to the chemical kinds), you will be disappointed that extrusion still destroys all nutrition, even in organic grains.
The sad part of this cereal dilemma is that I have not mentioned another important part of grain growing. Unless a grain is referred to as organic - without herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides - it has been grown with the mentioned chemicals. Herbicides and pesticides cause cancer.
Another consideration in this all American breakfast of cold cereal is the milk. What you buy in the store is not milk in the true sense. Milk is produced by cows that are confined in small areas (as opposed to the great outdoors of green pastures) and fed concentrates - alfalfa, grass hay, grains (corn is common and the farmer buys the cheapest available which is Genetically Engineered to have less nutrition and extra herbicides and the ever present pesticides), and other supplements.
People that produce and process milk are not too worried about cleanliness as their solution is pasteurization. In fact bacteria have gotten so bad that they have to raise the temperature of pasteurization beyond the 161 degrees. There are companies that are raising the temperature to 212 + degrees. This higher temperature not only destroys the bad bacteria, but it destroys every bit of nutrition in the milk.
We need essential beneficial fatty acids in our bodies and milk used to be a good source of the fatty acids but as soon as grains were added to cow's diets the beneficial fatty acids disappeared. Eat organic oats and porridges with butter and/or cream. When you buy milk at least purchase organic. The best is Organic Valley. Also buy organic butter from this same company. The best milk to buy is non-pasteurized, non-homogenized. Milk has natural antibacterial qualities that keep bacteria from growing. When produced by healthy farmers there is nothing to worry about. It is good to eat healthy, but that is not processed milk, and cold cereal.
