A busy lifestyle leaves little time for planning meals and cooking. It's far too easy to fill up the diet with empty calories in fast and convenience foods. Packaged and prepared mixes make life easy, but seldom provide all the nutrients your body needs to stay healthy. A good multinutrient supplement can help fill in the gaps in your diet when you're too busy to eat balanced meals.
But what if you eat a healthy diet? Do you still need to take vitamin and nutritional supplements? According to most experts on nutrition and the American diet, the answer is, quite honestly, yes. Over the past ten years, scientists who study medical conditions like diabetes and coronary disease have all noted alarming rises in the incidence of those diseases. It's not just that there are more people being diagnosed with diabetes or heart disease.
One hundred years ago, most foods were grown and raised on small farms. Farmers rotated their crops regularly to get the best harvests because they knew that the soil needed replenishing in order for the food to grow healthy and strong. Their livestock was fed a varied diet because the animals were allowed to free range and graze at will. This meant that the meat derived from those animals contained the nutrients from the food that they ate.
The vegetables and fruits that appeared on the dinner table had been sliced and cooked in the kitchen, not canned months or even years earlier. There wasn't as much of a need to add vitamins that processing robs from food simply because the foods weren't processed. Farming has changed in major ways since then.
Crops are grown in soil that has been sterilized and robbed of its natural nutrients by overuse, insecticides, pesticides and chemicals meant to promote large, attractive fruits and vegetables--at the cost of vitamins and minerals. The natural fertilizers that kept soil healthy have been replaced with chemical fertilizers that contain only a few of the needed chemicals, and none of the enzymes that allow the body to process and absorb vitamins and minerals from food.
Mass production and processing robs foods of still more nutrients. Cooking and canning and sterlization methods can remove or destroy as much as 90% of the vitamins present in a fresh peach or carrot. Even many foods that appear fresh are likely to have been sprayed with gasses meant to preserve their color and crispness as they travel across country. The end result is vegetables and fruits that contain a fraction of the vitamins and minerals that the same foods contained 100 years ago, much of it unusable by the body as it is.
When you add that to the fact that most Americans eat diets that are high on convenience and low on nutrition, the need to add vitamins and other nutritional supplements becomes very clear. It's important to remember that taking nutritional supplements is not a substitute for a healthy diet. They are meant to be exactly that--supplements--to fill in the gaps that our lifestyle leaves in our diets.
Most doctors recommend, at the very least, a high-quality multi-vitamin supplement daily, but nowadays sophisticated nutraceutical companies are producing products that go far above basic vitamins and minerals. These products may include speciality antioxidants that are much more powerful than vitamins, and other substances beneficial for health that won't be found in any typical multivitamin supplement, such as enzymes for digestive health, herbal extracts, or other natural supplements. Whatever kind of supplement you decide to take, it's still important to consult with your doctor to let him know of your intent.
Dan Ho is chief editor of one of the most popular resources for nutritional, dietary, and herbal supplements on the Internet, http://www.nutritional-supplement-info.com, which discusses their pros and cons, and how to choose a quality supplement.
As always, before you attempt to self medicate or try a new health regimen or program we suggest you retain the services of a qualified health care professional.
The Skinny on Oats, Oatmeal, Vitamins Nutrition for Skin Care and Bath Products
Oats (botanical name Avena sativa)
An oat is a grass that produces a fibrous root and a hollow jointed stem with narrow, flat, pale-green leaves. Oats are native to southern Europe and eastern Asia. They are widely cultivated as a food. An oat is an edible cereal grain produced by the cereal grass of the same name. They are light colored and have a nutty flavor and a chewy texture. Usually we think of them as breakfast food but oatmeal has long been known for its skin-soothing properties. Many skin lotions and ointments are formulated with oats for it's skin healing properties.
They also provide 4g of dietary fiber, of which 2g of this is soluble fiber and 2g is insoluble.
As a nutritious breakfast food oats provide a healthy addition to your diet in that there is 140 calories per 1/2 cup serving. Insoluble fibers are those that cannot be dissolved in water. And soluble fibers can be dissolved in water. They provide 10% of your daily iron needs. Also of this 1/2 cup serving, there is 26g of carbohydrate and 2.5g of fat, which is considered lowfat.
Three grams of soluble fiber from oatmeal daily, in a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease. Besides all this, this nourishing cereal also contains, vitamins, starches, minerals and 5g of protein. Clinical trials have been done, and they have shown that regular consumption of oat bran reduces blood cholesterol levels in just one month. High-fiber diets may also reduce the risk of colon and rectal cancers.
Oats contain the alkaloid, gramine, which has been credited with mild sedative properties. There are several forms of oats on the market and the following lists the most popular kinds. Whole oats without the hulls are groats. Rolled: Oat groats that have been steamed then flattened into flakes. Also, known by the more common name of old-fashioned. Quick-cooking: Oat groats that are cut into several pieces before rolling to shorten the cooking time.
Instant oatmeal: Oat groats that are cut into very small pieces and processed so that they need no cooking, just add boiling water. Steel-cut: Oat groats that have been cut by steel blades. Often called Irish or Scottish oatmeal. Oat flour: The finely ground grain. Oat bran: The ground outer layer of the oat. Used as a hot cooked breakfast cereal and is a good source of fiber. Other uses for Oats Are in Skin and Bath Products.
Oatmeal is found in many bath products and skin and body products. Oatmeal baths are wonderful for soothing dry, flaking skin, and poison ivy and dermatoses. It alleviates itching from poison oak and chicken pox. It has long been used in facial scrub products and is a very natural product.
Oat straw contains high levels of silicic acid, which makes it an effective treatment for many skin diseases, especially those associated with the nervous system. Try using an external oat-straw preparation to relieve shingles and herpes. Besides eating them in the form we are most familiar with, the box of oats that we purchase in the supermarket, oat products can be purchased in commercial form as capsules, extracts, and tinctures. One expert lists the primary functions of oats as: If eaten, a supportive, nurturing tonic for the nervous system, If eaten, it can be used to alleviate digestive problems associated with stress and tension, If applied externally, it can relieve skin diseases especially those with a nervous basis.

Have you ever purchased something thinking you had bought a really good product only to later find out that you could have had a better product for the same money? I know I have. And our friend Henry is shortly about to discover this sick feeling for himself in a very personal way. You see, Henry had never seen the information contained in this report.
But how much is your health worth to you? Each of us everyday by our actions, rather we realize it or not, places a value on our own health. To some it is like diamonds or gold, to others it is often treated as so much rubbish. But each of us to a large degree has the ability to determine his or her own health. - Both good and bad.
By being concerned about your health and taking appropriate steps, shows you are analogous to a smart investor. This Free report will not only make you a smarter investor in your health, but will show you that you can get the very best products and end up spending the same or less than the very worse nutritional products.
It has been said that a truly smart investor knows what he is investing in, before investing a dime of his money. This is why the rich get richer. No one would knowingly invest in a poor performing stock or investment which is going to lose money. Yet many people do this everyday when they purchase a poor quality nutritional product and don't even give it a second thought. It is not that they are stupid, it is just that no one has shown them anything different.
This report is intended to help you better invest in the health solutions that make your life richer. The rich simply have an abundance of information and knowledge which allows them to manage risk and consistently come out on top. The rich consider investing without enough of the right kind of information akin to extremely risky behavior or even gambling. Of course your health is much more important than money. When you are investing in any nutritional product you are essentially investing in your health (either good or bad).
Mainly due to the lack of proper information, the majority of people don't make wise decisions in regards to nutrition and their health. These people are living at risk. However, there are always the few truly smart people who are able to sort through all of the rhetoric and risky health products. These are the people who make the best health decisions for themselves and their families because they have essentially "insider" information other people don't have.
There are huge differences in the quality and effectiveness of nutritional products. However, the majority of people still think that a vitamin is a vitamin is a vitamin. However, his mindset is slowly changing. Impatience is the downfall of so many of us. This is why it is important not to give up too early on the best nutritional products. The best nutritional products "always work" - but most people don't understand how they work and most people give up too soon - not giving them a chance to work.
You see the very best nutritional products contain:
For example the best antioxidant products always remove more free radicals than the cheaper products. This helps better protect your body from disease and aging. The very best nutritional products are much more highly absorbable than cheap products delivering many more precious nutrients to your body. You see the mis-conception most people have about nutritional products is they read the label and the cheap product says for example 500 mg Vitamin C, 500 Mg Calcium. Then they read the label of the high quality and it says essentially the same thing.
Except here is the big difference - with the cheap product your body in some cases only absorbs 5-10 percent of the nutrients. While in the high quality product your body can easily absorb 5 -10 times or even more of these valuable nutrients. This is because manufactures are only required to put on the label what they put in the product before manufacture. This can be a far cry from how much your body absorbs of the final product. The high quality products are formulated so your body absorbs a much higher amount of the actual product.
Here are the characteristics that only the highest quality products employ during development. First let me share with you a little bit about the nutrition and herbal industry as a whole.
Raw Materials
First of all did you know that they are huge differences in the quality of herbal raw materials. There can be big differences in the amount of active ingredients based upon where the plant was grown, the seed used for growing, what part of the plant is being used, how the plant was harvested, when it was harvested, and even how the plant was stored. Plus some batches can have many more contaminants and impurities than others.
Raw ingredients especially herbals should be stored in low humidity and a low temperature environment and yet many aren't stored properly. Of course a good product starts with strict inspection processes of the raw materials. Raw materials are screened, nspected and even quarantined to assure they meet optimal standards. Any tablets and capsules go through strict sizing and weight requirements.
Also a good quality capsule, tablet supplement will contain a coating for ease of swallowing and this coating will typically contain a high quality antioxidant like alpha-lipoic acid to help protect the tablet against oxidation and loss of potency. The Product Testing Phase
High quality nutrition supplements will undergo a Battery of Tests like:
Disintegration Testing – tests to insure tablet will disintegrate under conditions found in the human body Dissolution Testing - tests to insure tablet will dissolve in order to be absorbed and utilized by the body. Microbiological Analysis - tests to insure absence of armful bacteria, yeast, and mold. Potency Analysis – tests using sophisticated laboratory equipment like Spectrometry, Chromatography and Spectroscopy. Content Uniformity Analysis – In this test samples are analyzed to make sure that they contain the same levels of active ingredients.
Also with high quality supplements the manufacturer pays great attention to packaging to assure it protects the valuable active ingredients. So you now have a basic idea of what to look for in a super high quality nutritional supplement.

Caffeine -I Bet You Didn't Know This! Health and Nutrition!
What exactly is caffeine? It is a colorless, somewhat bitter substance that is found in coffee, tea, chocolate and cola. It is also in many over- the-counter medicines and in many diet/weight loss supplements. It is a stimulant and it is considered a psychoactive drug. It is the most widely consumed drug in this country. Drugmakers are required by law to list the amount of caffeine in their product, however, food and beverage companies do not have to. The caffeine that is taken out of coffee beans to produce decaffeinated coffee is then sold to drug companies and soft drink manufacturers.
It can be a welcome waker-upper in the morning taken in that morning cup of coffee. It also helps give some a boost to stay awake late in the day. However, the boost isn't necessarily instant as it takes about an hour for the effects of caffeine to make it's way through the bloodstream and into the system. It has benefits and it has side effects. It helps keep us alert. It stimulates the central nervous system. Some say it improves physical and mental performance. It has diuretic activity. Some studies list is as a mood elevator, and a pain reliever. Because of the increased alertness levels of those who consume caffeine, there has been improved performance in activities such as test-taking, driving, flying and problem solving.
There are side effects of caffeine though. Those are insomnia, nervousness, increased tension and anxiety-panic attacks, just from drinking the amount of 300 mg. The amount that causes these side effects vary from individual to individual, however, children seem to have a lower tolerance of it because of their lower body weight. The Food and Drug Administration advises pregnant women to avoid it altogether. The FDA does list it as a "safe food additive", even though pregnant women should avoid it. For those that take it regularly every day, going without it a day can cause withdrawal symptoms such as, headaches, irritability, a lack of energy and of course, sleepiness. These withdrawal symptoms are short lived though.
The following is a chart and the amount of caffeine in products you use and consume daily.
6 ounce cup of coffee - 64mg to 150mg
5 ounce cup of tea- 40mg
12 ounce can of cola- 40mg
hot cocoa - 1 cup 4mg
6 ounce chocolate bar 25mg
2 Excedrin tablets 130mg
Besides weight loss products and stay awake products and energy drinks, caffeine is being tested for pesticide use and it has been laced in women's panty hose for it's constrictive effects that are supposed to shrink thighs. Love it or hate it, caffeine is and always has been a big part of American culture and probably is here to stay.

How to Have Great Sex - Nutrition and Foods That Create Passion!
Is the thrill gone? Has the thrill gone out of your love life and sex. Do you just spend boring evening after boring evening together watching the prime time TV lineups. On the weekends he watches sports with the guys, she goes shopping with the gals. You eventually wake up one day thinking - "Gee my life and sex life have gotten pretty dull!"
Well it doesn't have to be that way. Would you like to put some spice back in your sex life? Well you can. This article focuses on two main aspects of foods and nutrition - one what foods and nutrients are needed to help your body function properly for sex and the other being to help your brain properly function.
The main ingredient that makes sex exciting is the brain and how it functions and how well it functions. After all it is the brain which makes visual images exciting and interprets sensual smells and a sexy sounding voice. And it ain't your feet, which dreams up creative fun sexual scenarios for you and your partner. This article deals with food and nutrients for the brain as it relates to sex. Eating Foods and Nutrition to Improve Your Sexual Pleasure
Here are some of the recommended vitamins, nutrients and foods:
B-Complex Vitamins – The
B-complex vitamins
B-1 (thiamin),
B-2 (riboflavin)
and
B-3 (niacin) are all needed for a healthy sex drive.
Vitamin B-1 is found in grains, asparagus and raw nuts Vitamin B-2 is found in asparagus, bananas, broccoli and lean meats. Niacin Vitamin B-3 dilates blood vessels, creating better blood flow, and it also is important to sex hormones.
Vitamin C helps keep your various sex glands running smoothly. Antioxidants help protect the sexual organs and the prostate gland from free radicals.
Vitamin E aids sex hormone production and improves circulation and is found in whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Zinc is needed to produce testosterone, the male sex hormone and is contained in oysters, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, spinach and garlic.
Other valuable nutrients are:
Biotin -boosts normal health of male sex glands. Folic Acid - maintains sex organ health. Selenium - increases male potency and sex drive. What We Eat Can Greatly Affect Our Sex Lives – Think About This! Have you ever noticed that when you or your spouse are tired you are rarely in the mood for sex. This seems to be especially true of women. When they are tired the answer is almost always NO! And these days with many women having to work outside the home plus juggle family activities and housework it is no wonder by the time bed rolls around she is ready to roll over and go to sleep.
Yet have you ever noticed when both spouses are full of energy it almost always leads to sex and the more energized the better the sex. Knowing this there are things you can do everyday to provide your body and brain more energy for things you enjoy doing - like having sex. Often his buddies may make fun of the guy who helps his wife with the housework, but I bet he’s getting more then these other guys.
Aphrodisiacs and Love Foods
Consider the awesome power of the mind. Have you heard of placebos, I know you have. The work often times because people believe they will. Some aphrodisiacs work simply because you believe they will. Your brain is in effect your greatest sex organ. If the brain thinks some food turns you into a sex machine, it will. So if you believe buffalo chips will fire up your sex drive, chances are they will.
Oysters are a well-known aphrodisiac. Oysters are packed with zinc, so if you are zinc deficient, oysters may help you feel sexy. Serotonin is a chemical the brain produces that can boost your sexual desire. Stress lowers the levels of serotonin. Some studies have shown low levels of serotonin are linked to poor ejaculation and low sperm count. A combination of foods containing the amino acid tryptophan and certain carbohydrates can reduce stress and increase levels of serotonin. For example 4 - 6 ounces of fish, poultry or lean beef with bread or pasta.
Androsterone, a potent male hormone, is thought to attract females, and is found in celery. Researchers speculate that when you eat celery, you can release the androsterone through perspiration after digestion. Women can’t typically smell this, but some things are sensed subconsciously and women can be attracted to this. Also the smell of pumpkin pie can increase blood flow to the penis according to a study.
With all this focus on foods and nutrition remember that the most important attribute is to pay attention to your partner. This can be the most powerful tool for putting your partner in the mood for great sex.
It is important that your child gets his or her nutrition early on, preferably form Grade 1. This is the most important time for brain development, as they start to learn new things and create new ideas all the time.
Brain development revolves around getting the right amount of:
1) Glucose – Simply put, it is the blood sugar level. Glucose provides energy, and is vital in determining attention span. Lack of glucose can cause your kid to feel sleepy in class. The most important meal is breakfast, and glucose should be a part of every child’s breakfast, to ensure that the blood sugar level is maintained through out the day’s activities. Kids who usually skip breakfast tend to have a shorter attention span and difficulty remembering their lessons.
2) Vitamin B – Vitamin B helps to release the energy in glucose. Lack of Vitamin B can cause aggressiveness and depression. There are 12 types of essential Vitamin B, so it may be difficult to get all in a meal. Cereals are a good provider of Vitamin B.
3) Iron – Helps to transport oxygen in the blood system to each individual cell, including brain cells. Lack of iron results in anemia, which is common in children who don’t get a balanced diet. Besides having less attention span, iron-anemic children are less motivated to participate in challenging tasks that stretch their imagination and ability. Having a good selection of red meat, tuna, chicken, or leafy vegetables like legumes and broccoli, can give your kid all the iron he or she needs.
4) Folic Acid – Important in the formation of red and white blood cells. Lack of folic acid results in your kid feeling tired, irritable and forgetful. Food sources like fresh vegetables and fruits are good sources of folic acid.
5) Zinc – Important to maintain communication between nerve cells and brain cells. Deficiencies in zinc can cause your kid to have difficulty solving academic problems, something the medical world calls cognitive impairment. Zinc in its natural form can be found in cereals and peanuts.
6) Vitamin A – An important nutrient for the nervous system of a fetus. Vitamin A is most commonly found in beta carotene, from dark leafy vegetables and orange or yellow fruits.
How to Ensure Your Kid Gets the Right Nutrition
A healthy, balanced diet, consisting of the right amount of cereals, meat, fish, vegetables, fiber-rich fruits, and lots of clean, unprocessed water will provide your child with the magic formula to succeed in school, both academically and in sports. Does that mean that the parents of ‘A’ students go out shopping each day, cook their own food, and sit down with their kids on the breakfast table to ensure that they eat what they’re supposed to?
Not necessarily. Parents are discovering the importance of nutritional supplements to balance out their diet, as well as their children’s diet. Nutritional supplements provide the answer to the close the gap created by a busy lifestyle and the need for better health. Adults can take multivitamins and mineral supplements out of their own determination for better health. Children, on the other hand, especially the younger ones, need to be educated, tricked or forced to take nutritional supplements. Any way you do it, it has to be done for the better future of your child.
Kids generally detest swallowing any sort of multivitamin pill, especially if it’s like really huge ones or if it tastes bad. Understandably for them, taste is more important than the benefit of the pill. Educating your kid is important in the long run, but younger children need to be introduced to supplements in a more subtle way. one good way is by giving them chewable supplements, which disguise the fact that they are supplements by giving a good taste and flavor. Kids are generally more receptive to taking chewables than regular pills.
Another trend today is taking liquid nutritional supplements. Liquid nutritional supplements go one step further than chewables by eliminating the need of pill forms. Liquid nutrition can be diluted and mixed into our drinks, cereals and whatever else you eat during the course of a day. Children today love taking liquid supplements that are mixed into their orange juice or other beverage. Even adults who hate taking pills are attracted to liquid multivitamin supplements. Liquid nutrition is also more readily and easily absorbed by the body.
Start Early to Determine Success
If you really want your kid to grow up smart and popular in school, you have to start early. Mothers should take Vitamin B supplements during their pregnancy months to ensure complete fetal growth. Even though nutritional supplements are generally not recommended to kids below 2 years, ensure that from that age on your children are introduced to taking chewable or liquid nutritional supplements.
Grade A students and kids who excel in school generally don’t have anything special that your kid does not already have. The only difference is that they have parents who emphasize the benefits of good nutrition. Now that you know their secret, start today by analyzing your kid’s eating habits and take action to change their life, and yours.

The key to better health is learning the difference between healthy and unhealthy nutrients. The choices we make greatly affect our health. Making a few simple healthy and nutritious changes in our dietary choices can have a profound and positive impact on our health, well-being, energy levels and life span. For instance . . .
For the first time ever, doctors are seeing significant number of children with adult onset diabetes and other conditions that were once thought to exclusively begin in middle age. Nearly every one of those conditions has been linked to diet and nutritional deficiencies. Why is this happening in a society as wealthy and well-fed as ours? The reasons are all wrapped up in our way of life and the changes to society and the environment over the past 100 year some nutriitonists argue.
Eating nutrient-dense foods that are high in antioxidants, phytochemicals and fiber help the body function optimally, promote overall well-being and improve digestion. These nutrients also help fight and prevent heart disease, cancer and diabetes, strengthens the immune system, slows the aging process, increases energy and improves cognitive performance.
Additionally, as we age our appetite lessens, making it even more critical to choose foods wisely. When every bit counts, picking foods with the highest nutritional profile is more important than ever. An easy way to make your nutritional choices is to look for foods that are bright in color, for they usually contain more beneficial vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals. For example, red and pink grapefruit have the heart-healthy cancer-fighting antioxidant phytochemical called lycopene while white grapefruit does not. Here are seven more simple ways to start eating healthier.
