Good Nutrition is just as essential for your pet's health as it is for your own health. Your pet needs a balanced diet to help keep him healthy. Unlike humans, your pet's daily diet is the same day to day. For this reason your pet must meet all nutritional requirements and needs for proteins, vitamins, fats and minerals in this one diet.
Good nutrition is not only good for your pets overall health but also for
their skin and hair coat. Good nutrition will influence the overall internal
workings of your pet for optimal health and a happy long life!
Now we are going to take a long at some of the important nutritional values
your dog's diet should contain:
Protein intake is critical for your pet's heath. It is his source of amino
acids which are required for the manufacturing of bones, muscles, hair
coat, skin and everything else in the body. Protein is an essential part
of your pets nutritional and diet needs. A rough estimate of protein needed
in his diet, is 20% in dog food and 30% in cat foods.
Cats are carnivores which meant they require meat protein and they have
a higher need of protein in general. Dogs are omnivores like humans, so
they are able to use both meat and vegetables. In fact, dogs can do well
on a properly balanced vegetarian diet whereas a cat might not due as well
since they require more overall protein.
In fact "fat" is the most expensive of the ingredients
found in pet foods. It is for this reason that that some of the lower pried
dog food companies skimp on the quality and quantity of fats contained
in the pet foods. Inadequate, poor quality fats will result in your pet
having poor skin and coat health. There are some dog food manufacturers
that add extra essential fatty acids to their food to promote healthy skin
and coat - this food you would prefer feeding your dog!
Fiber (derived from plants) is the indigestible substance in food. A minimal
amount of fiber is essential for proper food digestion. Without proper
fiber intake, pets would suffer from diarrhea which could then result in
more potential health problems and risks.
Poor quality pet foods include a higher amount of fiber because its cheaper
then fatty acids and this in turn will make your pet product more stools
then average. The proper amount of fiber will mean less pooper scooping
for you, the pet owner!
Vitamins and minerals are needed in small amounts but they are essential
to your pets health. Calcium and phosphorus (parts of the bone) sodium
(essential part of the of the enzymes system) and iron (component of hemoglobin)
are just a few of the many essential vitamins and minerals needed for your
pets optimal health and nutrition.
The last ingredient found in pet foods is preservatives. Preservatives
are needed to prevent the food from oxidizing - without preservatives in
the dog food, the ingredients would quickly diminish.
So there you have it - Basic nutrition tips that will assure your pet is
receiving a well balanced diet that will assure his overall health and
well being. We hope this article will make it a little easier for you to
help maintain your pets diet now that you understand more of what he needs!

Understanding Nutrition
With the release of the new dietary guidelines, in the form of the new
food pyramid, I still find that many people don't actually understand what
nutrition actually means. Because of this, dietary choices can seem overwhelming.
Even greater confusion can be generated by prime time news specials which
only strive to educate through clever sound-bites and diet fads which lead
some to believe that all of their answers are found in one single "magic
food." So what is nutrition and how can you understand it in a way that
helps you apply it to your life and to the benefit of those you know and
love? Here's an analogy I have found helpful in teaching those who attend
my free Sunday Night Wellness Call.
Your body functions in a manner similar to a car assembly plant. At that
plant, a steady stream of new parts, the correct parts and parts in the
right ratios to each other are absolutely necessary in order to keep that
plant open for business and running smoothly.
What would happen if someone in purchasing forgot to provide that plant
with steering wheels? The cars would be almost functional. But because
of a single part deficiency, that car would not be able to carry out its
intended function.
What happens when the cells of your body are missing parts?
You eat to provide your cells with nourishment. It's not just about calories.
That nourishment is the collection of parts every cell in your body needs
to function properly. You provide your cells with parts and those parts
are assembled according to instructions in your DNA to create a variety
of finished products. That could include new cells, of which there are
many kinds, anti bodies to fight disease, neurotransmitters to carry signals
between nerves, and hormones to regulate your body.
So again, there are beneficial raw materials in foods, which our bodies
use, and need, to carry out vital cellular functions.
These functions keep us alive.
These functions combat disease.
These functions allow us to heal.
These functions allow our cells to build new cells and all of the other
finished materials that are necessary for normal life and optimal health.
And these raw materials are called nutrients.
We eat to give our body access to nutrients.
Sadly, our food does not contain the nutrients it once had in abundance,
so it is necessary to supplement a good diet with quality nutritional
supplementation to ensure that our cells do not suffer from a parts deficiency.
We should still strive to have a good diet, from as many whole foods
as possible, with supplementation being a means to supplement, not substitute,
the benefits of a good diet.

Since childhood, we are always being reminded about taking vitamins, eating nutritious foods, avoiding junk and fatty foods, drinking enough glasses of water, plus performing various exercises - all of these constitute to what is considered as proper nutrition. But how can you really be healthy? How will you know that your food intake is just right for your nutritional needs?
If this only happened to a few cars, it probably wouldn't be a big deal.
You wouldn't see any symptoms of a parts deficiency. But what if that plant
had no steering wheels for an entire month? How about year? First the plant
would probably close, the community would fail. Good people would move
away and the "bad elements" would most likely take over the town. The lack
of balanced parts would eventually lead to dire conditions.
Basically, proper nutrition is the key element when you want to reduce
your body fats, firm your body, and develop your physique. Fish, poultry,
shellfish and lean meat are good sources of protein. Main sources of carbohydrates,
on the other hand, include yams, brown rice, sweet potatoes, and whole
wheat pasta. It is always necessary to get proper balance from the different
food groups if you really ant to be healthy and physically powerful.
Dieting has been one of the major preferences to attain proper nutrition.
Through it, you get to pick the right combination of foods, fruits and
vegetables that's best for you. It doesn't only control your food intake
that can end up to being obese and overweight, it also makes you aware
of the nutritional contents of the foods that you take. This awareness
makes every individual more particular about their diet and food intake.
Lots of advantages are associated to this fact and you'll soon realize
all these things.
By taking in healthy foods moderately and avoiding fad diets, this will
not only lead to weight loss but also to stable mental and physical health.
However, beginning a healthy diet may not be that easy and may cause more
harm than one might think. Sometimes, we acquire unexpected diseases because
we think much about our diet. There are girls who have suffered anorexia
due to "over-dieting". This is only one disadvantage that we must take
note. I must say that it's not always good to be very meticulous about
what we eat and drink.
As what I've mentioned previously, you must also follow some type of exercise
program in addition to proper food intake. But you must take note that
it is not necessarily the only exercise program that works or is appropriate
for you and your lifestyle. See how important it is to have balance in
all these aspects? It's not always proper food intake alone or exercise
alone - both are dependent to each other.

Is Nutrition Really Important?
Is Nutrition Really Important?
In light of recent films like "What the Bleep Do We Know?" and a collective
surge in awareness of Energy therapies and theories, the one question that
clients repeatedly ask me in my coaching practice is, "Is nutrition really
that important?"
My short answer is that, yes, it's all important. The Modality of the body
is not any less or more important than any of the other Modalities.
The longer answer is that when you take care of the physical, you send
a message to the Higher Self, sometimes referred to as the Observer, that
you are willing to take care of your Self; that you appreciate this physical
manifestation of the spirit or Energy realm. That, in turn, puts energy
in motion. It's self- nurturing on a symbolic level. Everything physical
is symbolic of the spiritual realm. So, you symbolically nurture the spirit
by taking optimal care of the body.
When clients become lackadaisical in their efforts to maintain optimum
health, instead focusing almost exclusively on spiritual or emotional health,
their physical health inevitably begins to decline. This, in turn affects
their emotional health, and begins the cycle of an overall decline in total
health. Each Modality is intricately interwoven and interconnected with
the others. Any change, whether perceived to be large or small in one Modality,
has a resounding impact on all.
Each Modality has octopus-like tentacles reaching into the other four Modalities,
changing and altering their fundamental state based on how optimally you
are functioning at any given time. As such, nourishment or negligence of
the physical has deep and resonating repercussions in all areas of the
Self. This then, has direct and immediate implications on your capacity
to actualize your full potential.
Each one of us has the ability to achieve greatness in our lifetime. The
only way this is even a remote possibility, is to ensure optimum or peak
functioning in each of the Five Modalities. This requires diligence, dedication,
and a deep commitment to bring to bear all that you are capable of conceiving.
Admittedly, this is no easy task in a culture that not only breeds mediocrity,
but often celebrates it as an accomplishment. Each day, each moment, that
we are plugged into our Overarch, is a challenge to the greatness that
we are capable of bringing to fruition. Focusing energy, creativity, and
thought on our inner lives requires a conscious effort to tear ourselves
away from the seductive pull of a consumer- driven world.
We receive and internalize billions of messages every day to look at ourselves
from the outside, as opposed to looking out from behind our eyes. We are
inundated with media, advertising, and images encouraging us to consume
rather than create; to accept rather than challenge. Our profound spiritual
connectedness to nature, to one another, to our deeper and higher selves,
is replaced with stagnant dogma. None of this is an accident. All of these
factors jointly produce the effect of an insatiable soul-hunger; a hunger
for which we are then offered material "cures."
If we take this very same analogy, and apply it to nutrition, we see that
we have a food industry that strips essential vitamins, minerals, fats,
and other phytochemical components from plants and produce in their natural
forms, and bottles the extracted nutrients to sell separately to the "health
food" industry. The refined foods, once much of the nutritional value
has been removed, are then sold to the public at large, sometimes with
added sugars or salt, health-eroding trans fats or hydrogenated oils, artificial
flavors, colors or other additives and preservatives.
Again, the result is an insatiable hunger, this time in our bodies. Americans
are the most overfed, yet undernourished peoples on the planet. Our Overarching
culture, at the same time that it removes most of the nutrition in our
grains and produce, offers us sugar-coated empty calories to assuage the
pangs of deprivation. In much the same way that we lose our sense of a
true spiritual connection and replace it with material profit- driven "fixes";
we are nutritionally starving while stuffing ourselves with synthetic versions
of the food that grows naturally in the wild. Nature in the wild that we
were meant to have a spiritual, as well as physical connection to.
If our bodies are starving for real nutrition, our minds are not functioning
at optimum levels, and our emotions follow suit. This inevitably affects
the Spirit Modality, and consequently, the Overarch. The Overarch is our
social, political, cultural, geographic, and historical position in the
world. It is how we interact with all of these elements, and how they,
in turn, interact with us. It is relatively clear how the Overarch impacts
us; it is often less clear how we impact our Overarch.
Quite simply, if we take the premise that the micro is the macro, or the
personal is the global, we begin to see how we can have a tremendous effect
on our Overarch. All that we do on an individual level, in our personal
day-to-day lives, is precisely what is happening in the larger, wider world.
Take, for example, our overfed and undernourished selves in this part of
the world - one of the most affluent and powerful nations in the world.
Add to that a spiritual, or soul-hunger, and a celebration of mediocrity.
Consider, too, that the micro is the macro, and that for every action there
is an equal and opposite reaction. With these factors combined, it is not
difficult to see why the planet is in its current condition.
It is also not difficult to see why there is a growing surge, a powerful
global movement, toward evolution. More and more people are beginning to
understand, whether on a conscious level, or a sub-conscious level, that
change is an absolute, dire necessity. We all basically want the same things:
a deeper connection to a spiritual core, a feeling of being connected to
all of life, to manifest our greatness, and actualize our full potential.
What we disagree on is how to accomplish these goals.
I say the answer lies in making the connections. And, given the fact that
each Modality has deeply embedded roots in all of the others, my response
to the question of whether nutrition is really important in the grand scheme
of the energy realm is: absolutely.

The Skinny on Oats, Oatmeal, Vitamins Nutrition for Skin Care and Bath Products.
Oats (botanical name Avena sativa)
An oat is a grass that produces a fibrous root and a hollow jointed stem
with narrow, flat, pale-green leaves. Oats are native to southern Europe
and eastern Asia. They are widely cultivated as a food.
An oat is an edible cereal grain produced by the cereal grass of the same
name. They are light colored and have a nutty flavor and a chewy texture.
Usually we think of them as breakfast food but oatmeal has long been known
for its skin-soothing properties. Many skin lotions and ointments are formulated
with oats for it's skin healing properties.
As a nutritious breakfast food oats provide a healthy addition to your
diet in that there is 140 calories per 1/2 cup serving. They also provide
4g of dietary fiber, of which 2g of this is soluble fiber and 2g is insoluble.
Insoluble fibers are those that cannot be dissolved in water. And soluble
fibers can be dissolved in water. They provide 10% of your daily iron needs.
Also of this 1/2 cup serving, there is 26g of carbohydrate and 2.5g of
fat, which is considered lowfat.
Three grams of soluble fiber from oatmeal
daily, in a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the
risk of heart disease. Besides all this, this nourishing cereal also
contains, vitamins, starches, minerals and 5g of protein. Clinical trials
have been done, and they have shown that regular consumption of oat bran
reduces blood cholesterol levels in just one month. High-fiber diets
may also reduce the risk of colon and rectal cancers.
Oats contain the alkaloid, gramine, which has been credited with mild
sedative properties.
There are several forms of oats on the market and the following lists
the most popular kinds. Whole oats without the hulls are groats.
Rolled: Oat groats that have been steamed then flattened into flakes.
Also, known by the more common name of old-fashioned. Quick-cooking:
Oat groats that are cut into several pieces before rolling to shorten
the cooking time. Instant oatmeal: Oat groats that are cut into very
small pieces and processed so that they need no cooking, just add boiling
water. Steel-cut: Oat groats that have been cut by steel blades. Often
called Irish or Scottish oatmeal. Oat flour: The finely ground grain.
Oat bran: The ground outer layer of the oat. Used as a hot cooked breakfast
cereal and is a good source of fiber.
Other uses for Oats Are in Skin and Bath Products.
Oatmeal is found in many bath products and skin and body products. Oatmeal
baths are wonderful for soothing dry, flaking skin, and poison ivy and
dermatoses. It alleviates itching from poison oak and chicken pox. It
has long been used in facial scrub products and is a very natural product.
Oat straw contains high levels of silicic acid, which makes it an effective
treatment for many skin diseases, especially those associated with the
nervous system. Try using an external oat-straw preparation to relieve
shingles and herpes.
Besides eating them in the form we are most familiar with, the box of
oats that we purchase in the supermarket, oat products can be purchased
in commercial form as capsules, extracts, and tinctures.
One expert lists the primary functions of oats as: If eaten, a supportive,
nurturing tonic for the nervous system, If eaten, it can be used to alleviate
digestive problems associated with stress and tension, If applied externally,
it can relieve skin diseases especially those with a nervous basis.

What exactly is caffeine? It is a colorless, somewhat bitter substance
that is found in coffee, tea, chocolate and cola. It is also in many over-
the-counter medicines and in many diet/weight loss supplements. It is a
stimulant and it is considered a psychoactive drug. It is the most widely
consumed drug in this country. Drugmakers are required by law to list the
amount of caffeine in their product, however, food and beverage companies
do not have to. The caffeine that is taken out of coffee beans to produce
decaffeinated coffee is then sold to drug companies and soft drink manufacturers.
It can be a welcome waker-upper in the morning taken in that morning cup
of coffee. It also helps give some a boost to stay awake late in the day.
However, the boost isn't necessarily instant as it takes about an hour
for the effects of caffeine to make it's way through the bloodstream and
into the system. It has benefits and it has side effects. It helps keep
us alert. It stimulates the central nervous system. Some say it improves
physical and mental performance. It has diuretic activity. Some studies
list is as a mood elevator, and a pain reliever. Because of the increased
alertness levels of those who consume caffeine, there has been improved
performance in activities such as test-taking, driving, flying and problem
solving.
Oysters are a well-known aphrodisiac. Oysters are packed with zinc, so
if you are zinc deficient, oysters may help you feel sexy. Serotonin
is a chemical the brain produces that can boost your sexual desire. Stress
lowers the levels of serotonin. Some studies have shown low levels of
serotonin are linked to poor ejaculation and low sperm count. A combination
of foods containing the amino acid tryptophan and certain carbohydrates
can reduce stress and increase levels of serotonin. For example 4 - 6
ounces of fish, poultry or lean beef with bread or pasta.
There are side effects of caffeine though. Those are insomnia, nervousness,
increased tension and anxiety-panic attacks, just from drinking the amount
of 300 mg. The amount that causes these side effects vary from individual
to individual, however, children seem to have a lower tolerance of it because
of their lower body weight. The Food and Drug Administration advises pregnant
women to avoid it altogether. The FDA does list it as a "safe food additive",
even though pregnant women should avoid it. For those that take it regularly
every day, going without it a day can cause withdrawal symptoms such as,
headaches, irritability, a lack of energy and of course, sleepiness. These
withdrawal symptoms are short lived though.
The following is a chart and the amount of caffeine in products you use
and consume daily.
6 ounce cup of coffee - 64mg to 150mg 5 ounce cup of tea- 40mg 12 ounce
can of cola- 40mg hot cocoa - 1 cup 4mg 6 ounce chocolate bar 25mg 2 Excedrin
tablets 130mg
Besides weight loss products and stay awake products and energy drinks,
caffeine is being tested for pesticide use and it has been laced in women's
panty hose for it's constrictive effects that are supposed to shrink thighs.
Love it or hate it, caffeine is and always has been a big part of American
culture and probably is here to stay.

Is the thrill gone? Has the thrill gone out of your love life and sex.
Do you just spend boring evening after boring evening together watching
the prime time TV lineups. On the weekends he watches sports with the guys,
she goes shopping with the gals. You eventually wake up one day thinking
- "Gee my life and sex life have gotten pretty dull!"
Well it doesn't have to be that way. Would you like to put some spice back
in your sex life? Well you can. This article focuses on two main aspects
of foods and nutrition - one what foods and nutrients are needed to help
your body function properly for sex and the other being to help your brain
properly function.
The main ingredient that makes sex exciting is the brain and how it functions
and how well it functions.
After all it is the brain which makes visual images exciting and interprets
sensual smells and a sexy sounding voice.
And it ain't your feet, which dreams up creative fun sexual scenarios for
you and your partner.
This article deals with food and nutrients for the brain as it relates
to sex.
Eating Foods and Nutrition to Improve Your Sexual Pleasure
Here are some of the recommended vitamins, nutrients and foods:
B-Complex Vitamins - The
B-complex vitamins
B-1 (thiamin),
B-2 (riboflavin) and
B-3 (niacin) are all needed for a healthy sex drive.
Vitamin B-1 is found in grains, asparagus and raw nuts Vitamin B-2 is
found in asparagus, bananas, broccoli and lean meats. Niacin Vitamin
B-3 dilates blood vessels, creating better blood flow, and it also is
important to sex hormones.
Vitamin C helps keep your various sex glands running smoothly. Antioxidants
help protect the sexual organs and the prostate gland from free radicals.
Vitamin E aids sex hormone production and improves circulation and is
found in whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Zinc is needed to produce
testosterone, the male sex hormone and is contained in oysters, pumpkin
and sunflower seeds, spinach and garlic.
Other valuable nutrients are:
Biotin -boosts normal health of male sex glands. Folic Acid - maintains
sex organ health. Selenium - increases male potency and sex drive.
What We Eat Can Greatly Affect Our Sex Lives - Think About This!
Have you ever noticed that when you or your spouse are tired you are
rarely in the mood for sex. This seems to be especially true of women.
When they are tired the answer is almost always NO! And these days with
many women having to work outside the home plus juggle family activities
and housework it is no wonder by the time bed rolls around she is ready
to roll over and go to sleep.
Yet have you ever noticed when both spouses are full of energy it almost
always leads to sex and the more energized the better the sex.
Knowing this there are things you can do everyday to provide your body
and brain more energy for things you enjoy doing - like having sex. Often
his buddies may make fun of the guy who helps his wife with the housework,
but I bet he's getting more then these other guys.
Aphrodisiacs and Love Foods
Consider the awesome power of the mind. Have you heard of placebos, I
know you have. The work often times because people believe they will.
Some aphrodisiacs work simply because you believe they will. Your brain
is in effect your greatest sex organ. If the brain thinks some food turns
you into a sex machine, it will. So if you believe buffalo chips will
fire up your sex drive, chances are they will.
Androsterone, a potent male hormone, is thought to attract females, and
is found in celery. Researchers speculate that when you eat celery, you
can release the androsterone through perspiration after digestion. Women
can't typically smell this, but some things are sensed subconsciously
and women can be attracted to this.
Also the smell of pumpkin pie can increase blood flow to the penis according
to a study.
With all this focus on foods and nutrition remember that the most important
attribute is to pay attention to your partner. This can be the most powerful
tool for putting your partner in the mood for great sex.
