Experiencing any measure of hair loss can be a painful blow to your ego. It doesn't matter if you’re an older man, younger man, or even a woman, hair loss can cause you to become extremely self-conscious. However, there are various treatments to keep your hair on your head, and discovering a hair loss solution can be key to keeping your youthful appearance despite the ticking clock.
Need more information? Here are some of the facts behind hair loss, and the correct hair loss solution for you. Your first port of call should be your doctor’s office!
In the case of women, hair loss could be caused by hormonal imbalances during pregnancy, or even while they are using birth control. Regardless of gender, hair loss can also occur after surgery, illness or even just because you tie your hair too tight.
There are a various ways to slow down - or even halt - hair loss. Determining a hair loss solution that will work with your body’s chemistry is another thing you should take into consideration. If you are experiencing pattern hair loss, medications such as Rogaine and Propecia could be right for you. Rogaine is massaged directly into the scalp and is supposed to stimulate hair growth. Propecia is a pill taken orally that will block the DHT (dihydrotestosterone) that causes hair loss, thus halting the process.
Despite the fact that these are the two most effective and used products, the option of hair transplant as a permanent hair loss solution should be considered. In this procedure, hair is taken from the back of the scalp and transplanted at the receding line. Using this method, you could have a full head of hair that will never leave your scalp.
After all is said and done, the most important thing to realize is that as we all get older our bodies do undergo change. Our skin sags and dries up, and our hair gets grayer and falls out. This is a fact of life, but if you are determined to keep your appearance young and healthy, you should consider a hair loss solution that will keep you beautiful for as long as possible.

Hair Loss Gets in the Way of Having Picture-Perfect Tresses
Much has been said about hair being a person's crowning glory. You've probably noticed how every single shampoo and conditioner commercial emphasizes (and most of the time, over-emphasizes) the need to have long and silky tresses (for the women) and healthy and fuzz-free hair (for the gentlemen). In the metro, there's also a burgeoning of parlors and salons offering a variety of hair care services to cater to the hair whims of every customer. But the reality is that, not everyone is blessed with picture-perfect mane.
Since premature loss of hair is hereditary, some people have to face the brutal fact that they would be bald sooner, not later, than they expect.
Men and women have to deal with hair woes such as dry and oily hair, dandruff, split ends, and hair loss. It's an amazing thing to know that several kinds of hair loss treatment are now up for grabs in the market.
According to experts in the field of hair care, women should note that men are not the only ones who have the tendency to experience and suffer hair loss condition. It only seems men are more prone to having partial or complete balding but this doesn't mean women are safe. If a person is starting to notice excessive hair fall and bald spots, he or she should immediately consult his or her doctor.
Although a person doesn't have any history of premature loss of hair in the family, he or she can get bald as a side effect of a particular drug. Aside from medication and genes, one can experience premature loss of hair because of an existing disease or illness such as cancer. Nowadays, hair loss treatments may come in the form of pomade or surgical enhancement. He or she can choose among different brands or methods according to his or her budget and preference.
How do surgical or non-surgical treatments actually fight a person's biological tendency to lose excessive amount or hair? Manufacturers behind most kinds of hair loss treatment like growth stimulators, super oxide dismutase and anti-antrogens explain that these services or products generally stimulate hair follicles to ensure production of healthier and stronger hair strands. But the more effective treatment is DHT inhibitors which prevent 5-Alpha Reductase and testosterone from teaming up and thus, resulting in noticeably less hair fall. Though hair loss is an inevitable reality for some, one can do something to prevent and fight it.
Where do you go to find hair loss help? You won't find “hair loss doctor” in the Yellow Pages, and it’s difficult to locate someone who specializes in hair loss. Research is constantly being carried out and better ways being sought to treat hair loss, and when you’re searching for hair loss help, you want to find a person who is up to date on the most recent research and advances in the hair loss treatment field.
The reason for this is that with all the new information continually emerging concerning hair loss, the information at the library could very well be out of date. As with all information found on the Internet, you need to make sure your sources are reliable. You would probably take any information on “Bob’s Miracle Hair Growth Treatment” site with a grain of salt. Seek out the information you are looking for on health education and medical sites.
Your Barber or Hairdresser
All hair care professionals have training in the various methods to treat and prevent hair loss. They can also recommend to you the products that could make your hair appear thicker and fuller. You may be surprised at just how much hair loss help you can receive with your next haircut, just by talking to the hairdresser.
A what? I’m willing to bet you’ve never heard of that term before. A trichologist is a hair care professional with special training on the subject of hair loss treatments.
You could find a lot of hair loss help at your local drugstore. The pharmacist may be able to suggest suitable products for you, and you can purchase the recommended products that are specifically made to help hair loss.
Your Primary Health Care Practitioner
Your primary care physician or nurse practitioner can prescribe the suitable products for hair loss that you cannot get without a prescription. Most importantly, he can also diagnose the cause of your hair loss. He may arrange for some tests to be carried out to determine if there is an underlying problem causing your hair loss, and do a physical exam. After the test results come back, he may prescribe medications or he may refer you to a specialist.
A dermatologist is probably the nearest thing you will find to a medical hair care specialist. There are a few dermatologists that specialize in hair loss help, but not very many. Most are located in the larger population centers, and you will probably need to wait several months before you can get an appointment. However, if you don't want to wait that long, even dermatologists who don’t offer specialise in hair loss help are well trained and can offer treatment for most people who are losing their hair.
A Board Certified Hair Restoration Surgeon
These are normally plastic surgeons who have undergone additional specialty training in hair restoration surgery. They can perform hair transplants. Sometimes you will find complete clinics where you can get cosmetic and medical hair loss help. Finding hair loss help can take a bit of detective work. Educate yourself and ask questions. Talk to your barber or hairdresser, or to your primary health care provider. Call several dermatologists and determine what experience they have in treating hair loss. Be your own advocate, and you will find the hair loss help you are searching for.

Female Hair Loss Reasons and Treatments
Female hair loss is devastating. To women, much more so than men, their hair is very important to the physical appearance.
Unfortunately female hair loss occurs too often, however, it is not as talked about as much as male hair loss. Female hair loss may be attributed to a variety of things knowing why hair loss in women occurs may help you in preventing it from occurring. A major reason that women get thinning hair or even balding patches of the head is because of the hormones, or lack them. As a woman's body slows down,or stops altogether, the production of hormones the body goes through a number of changes and his includes the growth hair.
• Menopause - The onset of menopause signals the body to begin slowing the production of hormones and due to the reduction of hormones during menopause more than two thirds of post-menopausal women end up with bald spots as a result of the hair loss. Accordingly female hair is best treated through hormone replacement therapy.
Prior to menopause women produce high amounts of estrogen, which acts as a protective barrier from the testosterone that women also produce. As menopause continues the estrogen that was being produced and countering the testosterone, slows and is eventually stops. As a result, the testosterone combines with alpha reductase along with another bodily enzyme to create a chemical called DHT which causes hair loss.
• Hysterectomy - A hysterectomy often presents women with the exact same problems as menopause, for the same reason as menopause, the body stops producing hormones. In a full hysterectomy, the uterus, ovaries and the fallopian tubes are removed, other times some of the parts can be saved and the loss of hair is not a problem.
• Pregnancy - Your could thin or fall out, or, ironical, it could also thicken. Your hair may not only become fuller or thinner, but may also get waves or if your hair is curly, it may become straighter. If your hair does thin or fall out during your pregnancy, it's because of not getting the nutrients your body needs. Without those essential nutrients, your body is unable to produce the amount of estrogen it needs. This is another reason to be taking prenatal vitamins.
Another reason why female hair loss occurs has to do with genetics. If either either your mother or father had thinning hair or was balding, then you are likely to have hair loss, as well. Other factors to consider are your diet, the nutrients eat and vitamins you take, also too much protein may be behind the problem. Also coloring your hair, highlighting it, bleaching it or using a variety of extra styling products over the years may cause hair loss.
There are treatments for female hair loss that will help the body to metabolize testosterone. Rogaine works both men and women. Another similar treatment is Propecia, although it is usually not recommended for women due to birth defects that it is known to cause. However, your doctor might find that it is okay for you after menopause or a hysterectomy.
Hair Loss Shampoo - Could It be the Answer to Male Baldness?
It is a perfectly normal occurrence for the human head to shed around 50 to 100 hairs a day, so when you consider that there are literally millions of hairs on the head, this doesn’t seem so bad. However, if your body is not producing more hair at the same time, these numbers will soon add up and will quickly lead to baldness.
Many theories have been volunteered concerning the cause of baldness, but no one is positive what the exact cause is. The only thing that the researchers are positive about is that around half of men worldwide will suffer from male pattern baldness. To some men baldness can be a thing of beauty. They don't have to pay for haircuts anymore, they don’t have to worry about “bed-head,” and they don’t have to use a hair loss shampoo or use any other preventative treatments. Some men, however, see hair loss as a devastating chapter in their lives, and the hair loss can also cause them to lose their self-confidence and virility - and there are an endless amount of hair loss products claiming to be able to restore that.
In the Beginning
If you are getting thinner on top, there is some good news for you. You can buy formulae and some sort of hair loss shampoo over-the-counter at any drugstore. These products can help in the prevention of yet more hair loss. However, there are drawback to using some of these products. Once you start utilising them you have to keep on doing so, otherwise once you stop your hair will start to fall out again. An alternative to using these products is spending thousands of dollars on a painful hair transplant - that may or may not result in a natural appearance.
Recently however, a new approach to hair loss has entered the market - a hair loss shampoo that feeds your hair follicles natural herbs. In today’s society and fast-paced lifestyle, it’s getting harder for a person to ingest the right foods that are so essential to the body. When your body doesn’t get theses vitamins and minerals that are so important to it, it will automatically ration the essentials that it sends to the major organs, leaving the minor organs (or less important parts of the body), such as the hair follicles, to suffer.
Using a hair loss shampoo will replace the vitamins that your body has used, and feed the scalp directly to stimulate the hair follicles.
When selecting a hair loss shampoo, you need to remember that your scalp is skin, and that skin is there to keep things out of your body. Most hair loss shampoos will be able to penetrate the first layer of skin and therefore make your scalp softer, but it’s doubtful that any hair loss shampoo can penetrate the second layer of skin, into the living cells of the papilla.

Whilst it may be comforting to know that humans are not alone in suffering hair loss (primates such as monkeys also experience thinning on their head) - understanding the causes of hair loss means we can take proactive action. Even though genetics does play a part, new research has uncovered a nutritional deficiency link in both men and women. And other factors, such as stress, and poor hair care, are well within our capacity to change.
The genetic link in hair loss has been well studied. It is associated with male and female pattern hair loss, or alopecia. In these individuals there is an increased sensitivity to the sex hormone, DHT. DHT stands for dihydrotestosterone, and is a powerful metabolite of testosterone. It contributes to men's unique gender characteristics, as well as facial and body hair, and the deepening of men's voices at puberty.
DHT causes the growth cycle of hair follicles to shorten, which in turn reduces the size of the hair shaft. Increasingly narrower hair is grown, sometimes as fine as fluff, and in more extreme cases, there is complete hair loss in that area. In women, estrogen usually counteracts the effects of testosterone. But when women go through menopause, or suffer hormonal imbalances, the reduction in estrogen can lead to female pattern baldness. Fortunately, this is not as drastic in its hair loss effects as male pattern baldness. Instead the hair tends to thin, and the crown parting becomes wider.
But a very interesting study by L'Oreal has linked an iron deficiency to hair loss, in both men and women. This was a placebo controlled, double blind study in which 13,000 healthy men and women took a supplement, and had the ferritin (iron) levels in their blood measured and cross referenced with information on their hair loss.
The results showed not only a link between hair loss and iron deficiency, but they were able to estimate the risk of hair loss in a certain level of iron deficiency. For example, women whose blood ferritin levels dropped from a normal 70µg/l to 40µg/l, had a 28% higher chance of severe hair loss. The post menopausal women in the study who had severe hair loss all had much lower levels of iron than the women who didn't have severe hair loss.
The problem with iron supplementation, however, is that excess iron builds up in the body's tissues and becomes toxic. It has been associated with an increased risk of developing chronic illnesses. Iron levels can be tested by a doctor, so if hair loss is a concern, its best to get your iron levels tested first before taking iron supplements. Other potential causes of hair loss - or at least, contributing factors are stress and poor hair care practices. Not brushing hair regularly, or washing it regularly, can affect the normal hair growth cycle.
When hair that is naturally at the end of its life cycle is removed through brushing, it allows another hair to grow underneath it. Regular brushing naturally removes dead hair that is ready to fall out. Not removing that hair means new growth cannot occur, as the old hair smothers the new growth. Dirt and oil build up can have a similar effect, so its important to wash hair regularly. Stress can affect the circulation of nutrients and oxygen to the scalp, by causing the muscles in the scalp to tighten. If this happens over a long period of time, premature hair loss can occur. This cause of hair loss is distinct from male pattern baldness (which is hormonal), but it can certainly exacerbate the condition. And stress reduction techniques are simple things that can be added to a daily routine, to prevent hair loss, and improve the overall quality of life.

Those who are on dieting because of being overweight, or anyone who avoids or severely limit their protein intake also may experience hair loss. It is common for those who are 'vegans' to suffer some hair loss due to the fact that those people consume no protein/meat/animal products at all. Also, the less strict vegetarian will likely have thinning hair due to their eating habits. Hair loss is also commonly seen among those who suffer from malnutrition due to anorexia and bulimia.
What is Hair Loss?
Your hair loss could be caused by any number of genetic, environmental and hormonal influences. With men, hair loss is most usually genetic, and if there exists a family history of balding, then it is most likely that young men will begin to see receding hair as soon as their early 20s.
The good news is that just by simply eating a protein rich diet, having protein powder shakes or supplements, you can stop hair loss due to poor eating habits and lack of protein. Also other supplements like zinc are good for your hair. Keeping a balanced diet will also be effective in making sure that your hair stays thicker and healthier Giving your hair the care it deserves may enable you to avoid hair loss altogether and it will help your hair to stay healthy and looking good.
Don't wash your hair more than once a day, but you should washing it at least once a week. This will allow the dirt and oils to come out of the hair with the proper washings. It will also allow nutrients to move through the hair in order to allow for protection, as well as growth. If you have a sensitive scalp, you should consider using a softer type of shampoo or one that has specific medication to help your hair.
Make sure that you are being careful in styling your hair. Blow-drying and hot curling irons are known to damage the cuticles that protect the hair. You should be using the 'low' heat level in order to prevent damage. You should also learn to style your hair when it is damp or dry. This will not put as much stress on your hair and will prevent hair loss. When your hair is wet, it will be easier for it to stretch and break.
A natural way of treating thin hair is by using olive oil. Massage it into your scalp before you go to bed. Wash it out the next morning to make your hair look shiny and healthy. You can use this treatment once a week and still see benefits from it. People that suffer from hair loss find that one good remedy can be found in hair styling and cosmetic techniques. Hair coloring, waves, and haircuts alone can make a big difference in the way you look and feel, making hair loss much less apparent. fThere are also FDA approved tropical treatments that may be able to help. But often, the simple things actually work.
