A Guide To Essential Vitamins And Minerals That Prevent Hair Loss

In many cases, hair loss is attributed to a physical condition, such as Thyroid disease, or the lack of proper nutrition. Certain medications can also strip your body of vitamins and minerals that are essential for healthy hair production and growth. In these cases, the proper vitamin and mineral regimen can significantly reduce hair loss and promote new hair growth.

The following is a guide to some of the more common vitamins and minerals that have been proven to be effective at promoting healthy hair growth.

After starting a vitamin and mineral supplement program, it can take up to 2 to 3 months to see results, but you will see results. So, do not become discouraged if your hair loss does not totally reverse itself after a few weeks of vitamin and mineral therapy.

If you are going to start taking any of the listed supplements, be sure to consult with your doctor first and not to exceed the recommended dosage. Doing so can actually cause hair loss in some cases.

Vitamin A is an antioxidant that helps to produce healthy sebum (oil) in the scalp. You get Vitamin A by consuming foods such as fish liver oil, milk, meat, cheese, eggs, cabbage, carrots, spinach, broccoli, apricots and peaches. The daily recommended dosage of Vitamin A is 5,000 IU.

Vitamin C is another antioxidant that helps maintain healthy hair and skin. You get Vitamin C by consuming foods such as citrus fruits, kiwi, pineapple, tomatoes, green peppers, potatoes and dark green vegetables. The daily recommended dose is 60 mg. Vitamin E increases scalp circulation which is vital for hair growth. You get Vitamin E by eating foods such as wheat germ oil, soybeans, raw seeds ad nuts, dried beans and leafy green vegetables. The daily recommended dose is up to 400 IU.

Biotin is thought to help produce keratin, the building block of hair and nails. It is also thought that is vitamin may prevent graying. You get Biotin from eating foods such as whole grains, egg yolks, liver, rice and milk. The daily recommended dose is 150-300 mcg.

Vitamin B6 is thought to prevent hair loss and help create melanin, the pigment which gives hair its color. You get Vitamin B6 by eating foods such as liver, whole grain cereals, vegetables, organ meats and egg yolks. The daily recommended dose is 1.6 mg. Calcium is essential for healthy hair growth. You get Calcium by eating foods such as dairy, fish, nuts, lentils and sesame seeds. The daily recommended dose is up to 1,500 mg.

Copper helps prevent hair loss and defects in hair color and structure. You get copper by eating foods such as shellfish, liver, green vegetables, eggs, chicken and beans. The daily recommended dost is up to 3 mg. Iodine helps regulate thyroid hormones. Thyroid disease is the number one cause of disease-related hair loss. You get Iodine from foods such as fish, seaweed, kelp, iodized salt and garlic. The recommended daily dose is 150 mcg. Manganese prevents hair from growing too slowly. You get Manganese from foods such as eggs, whole grain cereals, avocados, beans, nuts, meat and chicken.

The daily recommended dose is 3 to 9 mg. Silica prevents hair loss by strengthening the hair. You get Silica from eating foods such as seafood, soybeans, rice and green vegetables. The daily recommended dose is 55 mcg. As was mentioned earlier, taking more than the recommended dosage of these vitamins and minerals can have devastating consequences to your health. In addition, some supplements are not recommended for people with certain health conditions or for persons taking certain medications. So, be sure to talk with your doctor before taking any supplements to prevent hair loss. In addition to these few examples, there are myriads of vitamins and minerals that can help you promote hair growth and slow down the process of hair loss. To find out which ones meet your needs, talk to your doctor.

Female Hair Loss: Once A Mystery

During some time, people used to believe that female hair loss was related to heredity. Since this condition has been a nightmare for many women, the Medicine started to study this case and the revelations are amazing. In spite of what people used to think, female hair loss is not ONLY related to heredity. In fact, this is a secondary factor. The causes of female hair loss are a little bit more complicated than the causes related to men’s hair loss. Women in general experience hair loss due to stress, drug therapies and menopause.

Although the first two factors mentioned here are also related to hair loss in men, they are more frequent in women.

The use of drug for therapy is a complicated issue. Hair loss due to this is frequent in the treatment against cancer. The drugs used in chemotherapy are too aggressive and hair loss may be the slight side effect. Menopause is another problem. Besides all the unbalance in the organism that it causes, menopause can cause hair loss as an indirect consequence of it. In addition to that, other factor is related to hair loss in female. Since female use to dye their hair more frequent than men. The dye used may provoke some reactions. And these reactions in long-term may cause hair loss. Although some people advise about that, this is highly ignored by women. When they start dying their hair, they are worried about “being pretty” and don’t care about the possibility of experiencing hair loss. Although all these and although it seems hopeless, there are some things women can do in order to help hair loss.

Hairy Lighty

I decided to read and study about female hair loss when I realized that this is a common condition among the women in my family. I used to think it was heredity, but now I know heredity it is only a secondary factor. I hope to be alble to help people with everything I have read about it.

Natural Hair Loss Product Proven in Clinical Trials

A drug-free hair loss product, from a surprising source, may be the new answer to thinning hair, alopecia, and male pattern baldness.

"You have no idea what it's like," says Joe Rice, a 60-year-old professional from Fort Wayne, Indiana. "I started losing my hair in my twenties. It's miserable. It has a way of shaping your whole life."Joe's worn a toupee for years. No one sees him without it, not even his closest friends. He's tried "just about everything" to stop hair loss, including Rogaine and Propecia, without success. But deep down, he still holds out hope. "I know the drugs work for some people, but they didn't work for me," he sighs. "Just show me one new hair, and I'm a customer for life."

In general, women tend to be more concerned about the daily life than men. This increases the level of stress and one of its manifestations in the female organism is the hair loss. In this case, the treatment should not only stimulate hair growth, but also treat stress. Otherwise, even if hair growth is stimulated, hair loss can occur again.

A Serious Problem

Joe is not alone. Millions of men and women suffer in silence from alopecia, baldness and thinning hair. And while hair loss isn't fatal, it is a serious condition with profound psychological effects. For many, hair loss brings feelings of shame, despair, and crippled self-esteem.

New Hope from the Orient

Since 1999, a group of scientists in Japan, led by researcher T. Takahashi, has been studying botanical extracts looking for a safe, effective solution for hair growth. After testing over a thousand different extracts, they found three promising natural chemicals. One was from barley. One from Chardonnay grapes. And one- by far the most potent- was an extract from ordinary apples.

Move Over Minoxidil

One year later, the scientists announced even more striking findings to the international community. They compared the apple extract, known as procyanidin B-2, to the proven hair growth drug minoxidil in cell cultures. Their results seemed almost impossible: in head-to-head tests, the apple chemical proved to be twice as effective as minoxidil in stimulating new hair growth. In further experiments on mice, the apple procyanidins, as well as minoxidil, repeatedly produced "extensive hair growth."

Proven in Double-Blind Clinical Trials

In clinical trials on humans, the results were even more exciting. The procyanidins from apples consistently grew new hair in men with male pattern baldness, the most stubborn form of unwanted hair loss- and without any of the side effects of hair loss drugs.

Scientists are normally conservative when it comes to conclusions. But the statements from the Takahashi group were unequivocal. "Procyanidin B-2 therapy," they wrote, "shows potential as a promising cure for male pattern baldness." For Joe, and 60 million other men and women, this research means new hope. "Of course I'll try it," he says. "Just show me one new hair..."

Wigs: Practical Solutions For Hair Loss

Hair loss is a problem whether if you are man or woman. It doesn’t matter how old you are or your marital status. Being bald is an issue for concern. This concern is even bigger if you are woman. In order to solve this problem – or at least to decrease its psychological effects – there are wigs.

Wigs date from the old Egyptian people that used to shave their heads in order to avoid diseases. In order to protect theirs heads from the sun, they prepared some protection made of fur to cover their heads. These protections are what we call wigs today. Some people may even be prejudiced about wigs, but it is no big deal to have to wear one. In fact, wearing wigs can be a fun thing since you can look different anytime you want. Believe me: it can be fun!

Pregnant women may notice hair loss problems with in a period of about 3 months after delivery. Hair loss problem is also related to hormones. During pregnancy, high levels of particular hormones cause the body to keep hair that would normally fall out. When the hormones return to pre-pregnancy levels, that hair falls out and the normal growth and loss cycle starts again.

The aesthetic look caused by the use of a wig can be attractive to many people, even for those who say they don’t agree with that. Wearing a wig may be a matter of keeping the self-esteem high. And this is especially with women, who tend to be more worried about the appearance.

In Ancient Europe, wearing a wig was a sign of nobility. The richest people wore wigs. The king wore wigs. So, why not wearing a wig nowadays? It’s nobody’s fault to suffer hair loss. However, something can be done and the solution lies on wearing a wig. It doesn’t matter if you are man or woman, it doesn’t matter what your friends are going to say. The only thing that matters is you to feel comfortable about your look. There are many types of wig for you to choose. The wig can be made of natural or synthetic material. Besides, you can choose if you want to wear a short, medium or long lengths. In addition to that, the technique of making a wig has improved and there are some types that don’t seem to be a wig at all.

Lady Wig

I am crazy about wigs! They are so fun to wear and we can create someone totally different from us when we use a wig! I love wearing them! And that's why I like so much to write about wigs!
