Is there any treatment for hair loss?
Depending on your type of hair loss, treatments are available. If a medicine is causing your hair loss, your doctor may be able to prescribe a different medicine. Recognizing and treating an infection may help stop the hair loss. Correcting a hormone imbalance may prevent further hair loss.
One medicine, minoxidil (brand name: Rogaine), is available without a prescription. It is applied to the scalp. Both men and women can use it. Another medicine, finasteride (brand name: Propecia) is available with a prescription. It comes in pills and is only for men. It may take up to 6 months before you can tell if one of these medicines is working.
If adequate treatment is not available for your type of hair loss, you may consider trying different hairstyles or wigs, hairpieces, hair weaves or artificial hair replacements
As always, before you attempt to self medicate or try a new health regimen or program we suggest you retain the services of a qualified health care professional.
Preventing Hair Loss With Chinese Herbs!
What is Natural Menopause?
Natural menopause has occurred when a woman has not had a menstrual period for a full year. When menstruation has permanently ended without any kind of medical intervention, natural menopause has been reached. Menopause is a change that is a natural and normal occurrence. It's not clear what the cause of hair loss is, but family history certainly plays a role - your father or your mother can pass along the gene whether you are male or female.
When women are in menopause, the hormones estrogen and androgen start to shift. The body begins to make fewer of these hormones, but there is more of a drop in estrogen than there is in androgen. This imbalance worsens your hair loss. Women lose their hair differently than men. Their hair loss tends to be an overall thinning. The center part starts getting wider and the ponytail gets a little thinner.
Lifestyle Changes to Prevent Hair Loss
2. Acupuncture - can improve circulation and digestion. Daily use of a plum blossom hammer (a small hammer with five or seven tiny needle points) on the scalp can promote local circulation and stimulate hair growth.
3. Homeopathy - lycopodium can reduce hair loss after pregnancy. Sepia can be used for hair loss linked to menopause and also that associated with hot flushes and night sweats. Phosphoric acid may help if grief, stress and emotion are the main triggers.
Tips to Prevent Hair Loss
According to Garrison, teasing hair and spraying it so that it sits high off the scalp actually defeats your purpose. You may think that you're making your hair appear thicker, but you're actually creating a "teased-out bubble" that you can see through - all the way to the scalp. Some volume is good - just make sure it still looks natural.

1. Herbal medicine - Chinese herbal medicine uses formulas that act as blood tonics and liver cleansers to promote healthy hair growth. Herbs such as black cohosh, Mexican yam and Agnus castus can help hormonal balance.
The Biology of Hair Loss The average human scalp is covered by 100,000 hair follicles. If you've got all your hair, that may seem like a big number but when you start to lose it, the fate of each follicle becomes more important. What makes hair fall out? Sprouting New Locks Today, many men turn to hair implants to cover their bald spots. And implants can look like the real thing. But as doctors remove hair follicles from where the hair is growing and implant them in spots where the hair is bare, implants in a too large bald spot make the whole head of hair look strangely sparse. That, and the length of the procedure--spanning about 16 hours in two sessions--is the reason that only two percent of men with male pattern baldness are estimated to seek out the surgery.
In the case of hereditary hair loss, as a man ages, some of his hair follicles become sensitive to the hormone dihydrotesterone (DHT), a chemical that is also partially responsible for the formation of male characteristics. These hair follicles shrivel up and stop growing new hair. But what's not yet understood by scientists is why follicles in the back of the head never become sensitive to DHT, as hair continues growing there throughout a man's life.
To take advantage of the faithful follicles, a hair loss surgeon trained in hair cloning would remove a few hairs from the back of the head. But instead of inserting these hairs back into the top of the scalp, as in the case of transplantation, he would take them to a lab where the hairs can be broken down into individual cells and reproduced an almost infinite number of times. Those new hair cells can then be sent back to the doctor a few weeks later, where they are reinserted into the patient's scalp. In theory, the new follicles would begin to grow hair within three months.
Female Baldness A drug used to treat male baldness could also help women with thinning hair, an Italian study suggests. Up to half of women experience some hair thinning during their lifetime. The hair loss researchers said the Archives of Dermatology findings showed finasteride could be used for those who could not use the standard lotion treatment.
How Hair Loss Medications Work!
Hair loss medicines work, but how? Listen in as experts explain how the approved medicines for hair loss help save the hair you have and regrow new ones. Most assume that their ever-thinning hair is a result of genetics and there is little to do to stop it. While that's somewhat true, researchers have found that some cases of hair loss may be tied to diet, not DNA.
What The Doctors Say
In a review of previous work, doctors from the Cleveland Clinic have found that low iron levels in the body may be linked to hair loss in both men and women. While there is no hard evidence to suggest that iron supplements would help to regrow hair, some experts do see iron as a potential supplement to other forms of hair-loss treatment. We believe that treatment for hair loss is enhanced when iron deficiency...is treated, the study authors wrote in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.
Most associate iron deficiency with anemia, an inability of the blood to carry oxygen due to low levels of hemoglobin. In fact, iron deficiency anemia commonly causes the symptom of large amounts of hair loss. But iron deficiency can also occur without showing any symptoms. In fact, iron is the most common nutritional deficiency in the world, often going unnoticed by both patients and their doctors.
Importance of Balanced Hormones
Our hormones govern the development of hair that appears after puberty. The male hormone, testosterone, governs beard, body hair and hair in the armpits. The female hormone, estrogen, generally prevents hair growth on the chin and encourages it to grow on the head. Occasionally women develop signs of hair loss or baldness when estrogen levels drop. Treatment with estrogen has been successful in restoring hair growth and stopping of hair loss. Eat a protein rich diet including green leafy vegetables, carrots, soybean, mango, dried apricots, whole grain cereals, sprouts, lentils, yeast, wheat germ, milk, yogurt (curd), and buttermilk in the daily diet.
Typical Hair Loss Treatment
Hair Loss Treatment often starts with Rogaine (topical minoxidil 2%). Rogaine is the only FDA approved medication currently available for female pattern hair loss. The other hair loss medication, Propecia, just doesn't work in women at all. Aldactone (spironolactone) pills help many women, especially whose hair loss starts before menopause but takes many months. Hormone replacement pills, such as Prempro, plus Aldactone are better after menopause. Experienced hair transplant surgeons can often achieve excellent results in women with the new follicular unit and minigraft techniques. You have to be a qualified candidate and have realistic expectations.
Propecia Finasteride for Male Pattern Hair Loss
There are a lot of medications that can deal with male hair loss. A renowned medication is known as Propecia is designed to specifically help men who are experiencing male pattern hair loss. In clinical studies, hair count increased during the first year and was maintained in those that took Propecia for 24 months. If you wish to take Propecia, it is practical to know how this medication can possibly help you in your hair loss.
Propecia, in generic terms is known as Finasteride. It is known to help men that are dealing with male pattern hair loss, also known as DHT. This particular pattern of baldness and hair loss is known to directly affect men because of genetics that are inherited from both their mother and father. The genes cause the hormone of DHT to react with the enzymes that are located in the scalp and hair region. When this happens, hair begins to thin and eventually causes for it to fall out completely.
Propecia is a prescription medication that has proven to be more effective in men than in women. Propecia will interact with male pattern baldness by adding an androgen hormone as a possible treatment. This will then balance out with the enzymes and other chemicals that are causing hair loss.
Women must not use Propecia when they are pregnant or hoping to get pregnant. Propecia can potentially cause abnormalities of the male baby's sex organs, a condition known as hypospadias. Additionally, women should not handle crushed or broken tablets when they are pregnant or may potentially be pregnant.
Propecia is FDA approved drug for male pattern hair loss. Despite this, there are side effects to taking Propecia. Because of the added hormone, a small percentage of men have reported less desire for sex and difficulty in achieving an erection and/or a decrease in the amount of semen.
There may also be possible allergic reactions that occur, which can be noted from rashes, itching or irritation that takes place. If you should observe any of these symptoms, it is best to stop taking the medication and ask your doctor before you continue with the prescription.
Propecia is one of the several medications that are available for those dealing with male pattern hair loss. Consult your doctor to find out more about Propecia if you are interested to use this medication to help you in your treatment of falling hair. Knowing what your options are and evaluating your risks, will ensure that you make the best choice possible for treating your male pattern hair loss.
Can you make out with this scenario? Either you're taking a shower or brushing your hair or you notice that your hair is falling out rather more than normal. The first question that springs to mind is "How can I stop further hair loss?" There are many hair loss prevention products available, but before you start to experiment with them you should know what causes hair loss. There are two main causes of hair loss.
The first is genetics, also known as androgenetic and male pattern baldness. The lifetime of a single hair is typically somewhere around five years, and the average human will lose around 100 hairs a day. Hair loss happens when the body no longer replenishes lost hairs, so this is normal to a certain degree. However, genetic baldness will cause the body to completely stop replenishing the dull hair.
It can be rather time-consuming wading through these many treatments to find the answer, but with the advice and information listed here, you may just be the most acute shopper that you can be with matters of this kind. A doctor prescribes all of the chemical procedures, and the FDA has approved these two for use, Rogaine and Propecia. Rogaine is a topical lotion that stimulates hair growth, and Propecia is an oral pill taken to block an enzyme linked with pattern baldness in males.
Interestingly, the gene for male baldness is present in all men, but is only active in about half. This active gene suffocates the hair follicles so that when the old hair falls out, the new will not grow in its place. The second largest cause of male baldness is stress. There are also other causes of hair loss, for example, malnutrition, consuming foods that don't have the right amount of vitamins and minerals. Believe it or not, even coffee and other caffeinated drinks have been linked as a cause of hair loss.
Firstly, the key to hair loss prevention is catching hair loss before it becomes very clear. Which type of hair loss prevention product you use depends on what the underlying cause is to begin with. When you first notice that your hair is thinning, you could try using a different shampoo, one that is gentle, because your regular shampoo may be damaging your hair. Scalp massages with rosemary oil have been known to stimulate the hair follicles, but you have to give yourself a massage at least once a week to be effective.
If stress is causing your hair loss, then, where possible, try to reduce the amount of stress in your life. A change of diet to ensure that you are getting the right amount of proteins, vitamins and minerals is always beneficial. Make sure to include dried beans, fish, eggs and grains in your daily diet. If hair loss prevention methods don't work for you, remember that in some societies a bald head is a sign of wealth and in others it's a sign of virility and manliness. Also remember that about 50 percent of the men around the world will suffer from one form of baldness or another, so you are not alone, in fact, you are average.
