Adult Type 2 Diabetes - What Do You Know About?

Many people don't know about the different types of diabetes. There are three different types and they are Type 1 (child diabetes) Type 2 (adult diabetes) and Gestational diabetes. All three types are diabetes and will have all the symptoms of diabetes, yet each one has a different time at which it will show up in development.

Type 2 diabetes is most likely always associated with being overweight.

We don't know what exactly triggers this type of diabetes, but it occurs when the insulin becomes lesser and lesser effective and as a result sugar starts to get built up in the blood. The medical term for this is insulin resistance. This type of diabetes is most commonly found in adults, and today is a very common medical condition. 1 in 90 people are assumed to have Type 2 diabetes, and though it was more commonly found in adults, it is more and more being found in younger generations.

An insulin resistance is when the insulin that your body produces fails to regulate the sugar levels in your blood. You will find this called "beta cell failure". Think you may have this? The symptoms are steady increase of blood pressure, joint pain due to gout, steady rise of fat levels in the blood that could lead to more severe heart problems.

Most of the symptoms of this disease are common to all the three types of diabetes, i.e. the patient will feel extremely thirsty and urinate often, will feel fatigued all the time, will experience sudden weight loss (though the loss in weight will not be too pronounced), get skin infections and irritation very frequently.

What should you do if you think you may have this disease? First of all, visit a doctor.

Then you should take a serious look at your diet. You will have to make sure that you aren't consuming too much, or too little sugar. You will also need to add fiber to your diet, and eliminate fat. If you prove to have Type 2 diabetes you will have to regulate your blood sugar levels and also inject yourself with insulin if needed. Another piece of advice is to get your doctors number incases of an emergency.

Diabetes Symptoms: The Various Kinds Of Symptoms To Deal With

Diagnosing diabetes symptoms can be difficult in identifying at first, as manifestation of the disease is gradual. Sometimes, because symptoms can also be common to other illnesses, the real illness may be overlooked. Diabetes symptoms may vary, the list may go on and on but not everybody (diabetes patients) has them. There are even some cases that no symptoms may show on some patients.

Diabetes occurs when the body's ability to react to insulin gets affected. The insulin is your body hormone that allows your blood sugar (glucose) to enter body cells. When too much glucose enters the blood, this leads to the elevated amount of blood glucose, which it can cause glucose spillage towards the urine. This is the primary reason why one of the most classic diabetes symptoms, frequent urination, plagues the patient.

How are diabetes symptoms diagnosed?

Diagnosing diabetes patients may vary, and is based according to the duration and range of the high blood sugar levels. Patients with type 2 diabetes are often diagnosed relatively slowly as compared to people with type 1 diabetes, to which it may take only after weeks or some months. Symptoms may also progress slowly and mildly.

Some of the most specific and common early diabetes symptoms are:

- Skin irritation and diseases - Skin infections - Poor skin healing - Athlete's foot - Sexual problem - Unusual vaginal dryness - Erectile failure (to male patients) - Premature menopause (to female patients) - Absence of menstrual periods - Paresthesias - Peripheral neuropathy - Urinary tract infection - Blurry vision - Malaise - Drowsiness - Numbness of the hands - Weight loss or weight gain

Other more extreme diabetes symptoms are:

- Excessive urination - Excessive thirstiness - Dehydration - Weight loss even with an increased appetite - Tiredness, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting - Excessive hunger - More bladder, skin and vaginal infections - Serious blurry vision - Headache - Muscle aches, weakness and cramps - Acne - Increased sexual problems because of erectile failure for men, and vaginal dryness for women - Cessation of menstrual periods

Other diabetes symptoms:

- Gums are bleeding - Unusual noise or buzzing in the ear - Feet numbness or tingling - Skin itching - Diarrhea - Confusion -

Complications associated to diabetes symptoms:

- Kidney diseases - Diabetic retinopathy - Sciatica - Heart diseases and - Stroke

As those mentioned symptoms might occur at a later time for a patient, the usual situation is delayed scheduling of the check-up. This is not a good idea as complications may increase over time, making it even harder to treat and manage the disease. In this case, it is extremely important to check with the doctor in as early as possible to prevent more damage to the body. Another, it is important to note that diabetes is one of the lifelong diseases, and one that does not infect other people upon contact. is a free information site that offers articles and resources on Diabetes. Reverse Type 2 Diabetes, Overcome Diabetic Complications, and Find a Cure

There is an epidemic of Type 2 diabetes in our country today. According to the American Diabetes Association, "There are 20.8 million children and adults in the United States, or 7 percent of the population, who have diabetes. While an estimated 14.6 million have been diagnosed, unfortunately, 6.2 million people (or nearly one-third) are unaware that they have the disease." Diabetes is typically identified through blood testing.

Because elevated glucose level is beyond normal, your body cells are energy-starved and consequently leading to the damage in your nerves, kidneys, eyes, blood vessels and your heart. The increased amount of glucose appears when the sugar of your body falls too low. It then increases production of sugar. This process starts when the pancreas releases the hormone called glucagons. The stored glycogen will be converted back into the glucose by your liver and muscles.

Type 2 diabetes, also called adult-onset diabetes, occurs when the body either doesn't manufacture enough insulin or the body ignores the insulin, which results in sugar (blood glucose) building up in the bloodstream. When untreated, diabetic complications arise, some of which are life threatening. According to the American Diabetes Association, these complications include heart disease and stroke, kidney disease, blindness, nerve damage, foot problems due to poor circulation or nerve damage, gastroparesis, depression, and skin problems like bacterial infections, fungal infections, and itching.

Although many people with diabetes turn to medications and insulin injections to treat the disease, an increasing number are finding that drug therapy simply suppresses the symptoms of diabetes without addressing its causes. By using a combination of Eastern and alternative medicine principles, a growing number of diabetics are utilizing comprehensive wellness and nutrition programs that treat the causes of diabetes, reverse its complications, and, in essence, provide a cure to the disease.

Such a program heals the body at a cellular level and allows the body to relearn the proper way to metabolize food and insulin. The key elements of such a program include:

* Pinpointing the foods, minerals, nutrients, herbs, and supplements that are antioxidants, that reduce inflammation, that increase the body's use of naturally produced insulin.
* Learning which foods, minerals, nutrients, herbs, and supplements address and reverse long-term diabetic complications.
* Identifying the five super foods that lead to wellness and the five bad foods that promote diabetes and poor health.
* Pinpointing the seven common mistakes that diabetics make.
* Transforming favorite foods into healthier versions that include less sugar, salt, and fat.

The underlying principle of such a wellness program to treat and reverse diabetes is the recognition that diabetes is complicated, involving a number of biochemical, hormonal, and metabolic imbalances. As such, conventional treatment that includes oral medication and insulin is ineffective in the long-term. Instead, regular blood glucose testing combined with specific nutrition and exercise programs can actually reverse Type 2 diabetes and alleviate diabetic complications.

Comments on specific drug classes used in management of lipid disorders in persons with diabetes

Statins are first-line therapy for reducing LDL cholesterol levels in persons with diabetes and they are generally well tolerated. They have the advantage of lowering VLDL cholesterol as well as LDL cholesterol; thus they can assist in attaining the non-HDL-cholesterol goal when triglyceride levels are ¡Ý200 mg/dL. Bile acid sequestrants also are effective LDL-lowering drugs in persons with diabetes. Their potential utility for LDL lowering either as monotherapy or in combination with statins should not be overlooked. They generally are not contraindicated simply because of their tendency to raise triglycerides. Nonetheless, triglyceride levels should be monitored.

Fibrates favorably modify diabetic dyslipidemia. They are well tolerated, and do not worsen hyperglycemia. For more detailed info please visit

They probably produce some reduction in CHD risk, and could be used in persons who have low LDLcholesterol levels and atherogenic dyslipidemia. In addition, they can be combined with statins to improve the overall lipoprotein pattern. For many years, fibrates were considered first-line therapy for persons with diabetes. However, the results of recent clinical trials now favor use of statins before fibrates in most persons. Still, the combination of statin + fibrate is attractive in persons with diabetes who have atherogenic dyslipidemia but in whom LDL lowering is required to achieve the LDL-cholesterol goal. Clinical trials are currently underway to test the efficacy of statin + fibrate in treatment of diabetic dyslipidemia.

Nicotinic acid also has a favorable effect on diabetic dyslipidemia. Recent clinical trials in persons with diabetes indicated that low doses of nicotinic acid are accompanied by only modest deterioration in glucose control with no changes in HbA1C levels. Unfortunately, nicotinic acid therapy can increase insulin resistance and clinical experience has shown that in rare instances, diabetic dyslipidemia is worsened with nicotinic acid therapy.

Treatment with hypoglycemic agents also can improve diabetic dyslipidemia. Insulin therapy, sulfonyl ureas, metformin, and glitazones can all lower triglyceride levels. Although they may not be as effective as fibrates in modifying atherogenic dyslipidemia, control of hyperglycemia should be maximized before considering a fibrate in combined lipid-lowering drug therapy. If hypertriglyceridemia can be adequately controlled by glucose-lowering therapy, a lipid-lowering drug may not be needed.

Support Of Diabetes From The Family

Not to be missed in the treatment of diabetes is support from the people we love. In truth, one reference notes that "the quality of a family's time can be mutually beneficial" in managing diabetes in the family with juveniles or adults.

It is beneficial when those in the family are trained about diabetes. Knowledge will lend a hand of support to the diabetic. You'll recognize imperative symptoms, and know how to take action. One family who offers support to their diabetic relatives noted how they can recognize changes in each other when medical treatment is needed.

Being able to detect symptoms like being sweaty, shaky or impatient will help caring family members to take charge of any diabetic situations.

Loving family members must strive to be supportive and patient with their diabetic family members. This support can be invaluable coming from within the family for the diabetic. The greatest support group is at home with love and care. Family and friends in addition want to understand that as blood-sugar levels fluctuate, diabetes can affect one's moods.

A family member would never want to belittle or make fun of a spouse, sibling, daughter or son because of diabetes. Too, remembering that they have limitations on what they eat we may also follow their same diet plan. Never would we want to tempt them to eat something that could make them sick.

Remember you are an important part of your diabetic relatives successful treatment. They may not show it but you mean a lot to them. If you just give them some words of encouragement like they are doing great what a world of difference that will mean to them. Treat them like normal people with circumstances to care for.

Diabetes can be managed effectively, specially if the sufferer has cooperation from friends and family.

In addition, insulin therapy may be needed if oral treatments fail to work. Many find this confusing in that Type II Diabetes is classified as being non-insulin-dependent. However, the various types of diabetes are determined by their actual origin or cause and not by the type of treatment that is used in patients.

Type II Diabetes is often associated with increased cholesterol levels, hypertension and obesity. In addition, it is also known to be associated with certain other illnesses and disorders. Diagnosing & Treating Feline Diabetes

Believed to effect 1 in 400 cats, feline diabetes often presents itself with symptoms that are very similar to those found in humans. The good news is that feline diabetes is treatable and does not necessarily mean a shorter life span or lesser quality of life for cats. In many cases, early and effective treatment of feline diabetes may even lead to a complete remission, which means that a cat will not continue to need insulin injections.

Once any of the aforementioned signs begin to surface, it's time to take your pet to the veterinarian for the appropriate tests. If feline diabetes is confirmed, one of the most important treatment methods will be that of a well-balanced diet. Based upon your cat's needs, the veterinarian will recommend a diet and nutrition plan, which can be utilized in addition to regular insulin injections. Oral medications are also often prescribed in place of injections, but pills are often thought to cause liver damage or possibly even a remission reversal in cats. Therefore, most pet owners opt for insulin injections for the most effective treatment of feline diabetes.

While in treatment, it is important that cats be taken to the veterinarian for regular checkups and to monitor their health and dietary habits. If this illness is not treated properly or if their diet is not closely monitored, your pet may end up hospitalized. When dealing with feline diabetes, there is no room for error and pets must be closely supervised to make sure that they are eating right and gradually beginning to regain their strength.
