For mild cases, depression can be treated by simply talking about how you feel and about the things that affect a person's life.
Severe cases are a bit difficult. Many can become catatonic, physical sick, and extremely ill because of their depression. For severe cases, a person will be medicated and therapy is needed. A person may even be committed to a mental facility so that others can monitor them more closely for their own safety and the safety of others. Depression is now being linked to genetics. It's not something that you can "catch" from others and it isn't something shameful. Everyone hits bottom sometimes, and sometimes you hit bottom harder than others. Depression can be from a traumatic event, hormones, change in health, illness, or drugs.
People who suffer from depression are not just sad, they are lost. They will have long periods of unhappiness and may even become very different. They may become violent and angered or they could become a mop and helpless. You can tell when someone's depressed because they begin to carry themselves differently. They will slouch, become indecisive, and will withdraw from close friends and family.
Depression doesn't allow lead to hurtful thoughts or suicide. A person can be depressed without going that far. However, most people who get depressed think about suicide at one point. This is when a person needs the most support. This is the only advice that friends and family should try. As for treatment, the person has to want to change their life before therapy and medicine will help. Remember, the person who suffers from depression has to reach out to recover.

When it comes to dealing with your depression you will want to go through three steps. First, you will need to take charge of your health. You need to recognize that you have a problem and that you need help from someone else. You will need to make sure that you understand the disorder and how it affects you and also what causes your depression. The second step is reaching out. You will want to explore all the ways to help deal with depression and how you can get back on track with your life. The third step is living for each day.
Depression is not something that will go away. You will be affected by the disorder for the rest of your life if you don't do something about it. It is a chemical imbalance in the brain and it has many other factors or side effects. It is a serious medical condition and it needs to be treated as soon as symptoms surface.
The second step to treating your depression is knowledge. You have to learn about the different medications and treatments so that you will have a idea of what you want to avoid and what could possibly help you with your depression. You may just need therapy or have someone to talk to, you could need the medication to control your imbalance, or you could possible need both. Consult your doctor and ask them what they think you should do about your depression.
Finally, you can only be expected to live one day at a time. Recovering will take time and you might feel like nothing's working for you, but eventually you will be able to wake up and take a deep breath and live your life like you once were able to.

Many teenagers who experience depression are written off as just being a teenager, but four out of every one hundred teenagers will become serious depressed and many of them are ignored and they die from it.

They will also withdraw from friends and family. Some will stop doing anything that they once enjoyed and became full of rage or anxiety. They will overreact to simple things and they will have strong feelings of adequacy. Because they don't feel whole, they will turn to sex, drugs, or alcohol; which will build up their thoughts of suicide. Those who are most at risk are those who have panic attacks, delusions, insomnia, or hallucinations.
Depression will make teenagers do a lot of things that are harmful. They will begin to dabble in drugs and self injury. A recent test has shown that thousands of middle school, high school, and college students in American turn to self injury to help deal with their depression. Many claim that it makes them feel like they aren't themselves. It makes them feel somewhat high so they can distract themselves.
Depression has been linked with high suicide rates when it comes to adolescents. It has been indicated that children as young as five has committed suicide. Those who have depression are possible potential victims. They don't have to show any violence and reasoning. Teenagers learn how to conceal themselves and show the perfect image of what is expected of them.
Over 75% of all people with depression are never diagnosed and don't seek treatment. Why? Today it is known the side effects that depression can have on a person. You never know how a person will react to the simplest things when they are depressed. Some people can handle a lot of stress and others are very fragile.
The problem with depression is that most people don't reach out for help. They don't get a true diagnose or treatment for their depression and they struggle to live within their own mind. Some people who do seek treatment are diagnosed wrongly. They aren't diagnosed for depression but other mental disorders that are much worse. Being misdiagnosed is one of the reasons why people with depression committee suicide.
Hundreds of people day each year because their depression was not diagnosed. Because they didn't seek help, many give in to the thoughts and commit suicide. The hardest thing a parent has to do is deal with their child's suicide and the same goes when someone loses their father, their mother, their grandparent, their sibling, and their mate.
What holds people back from going to treatments? The truth to depression is the fact that the person cannot stand on their own. They need help, they need guidance. Those who allow signs to go unnoticed are the reasons among others that aids in a person's reasoning for suicide. These other reasons are society based and emotional obstacles.
Today it is unheard of that anyone would be sad or depressed because of nothing. No one grasps the fact that it's an imbalance of chemicals in the brain. The way our family and friends and society perceives us can paralyze a person with depression. They don't want to be a disappointment to anyone so they don't speak and they try to hide their feelings, but eventually it becomes too much.
As for the emotional obstacles a person will be in denial, feel hopeless, feel shame, and fearful. Denial is a common feeling because society tries to hold back feelings that aren't happy. They don't want others to share the dark side or the sad side, so they pretend and one day they can't pretend anymore.
Many people feel weak or girly because they give in to the sadness. It makes a person feel shameful and adequate. When these feelings are supported, it can be devastating to the patient and their mental health. Because they feel that, they can't reach out; that they would be punished by society if they did, many feel hopeless. Like there's nothing they can do but give in. Others avoid treatment because they fear that they will lose control. That they will be in therapy or on medication for the rest of their life. Rather you are in therapy on a regular basis of on medication, there's no shame in that, because you aren't losing control, but taking control of your life.
Suicide is one of the most severe side effects of depression. Depression is a chemical imbalance that allows a person to become out of control. They are unable to control their mood swings, diet, and rest. A person's life is disrupted completely when someone is diagnosed with depression. Those who have severe depression is also mostly diagnosed with bipolar disorder. It doesn't make you weird it doesn't make you different. It just acknowledges the fact that everyone handles stress and life events differently.
When it comes to depression a person will begin to feel like they has no energy and eventually like they have no reason to live. They have no reason to want to survive their crisis and have no hope to ever feel better. The hopelessness gives a person a reason not to want to try. People who are severely depressed may be in denial that they are and it is at this point where someone from outside the situation needs to come in an intervene.
There are many medications that claim to help relieve the suicidal effects of depression. Lithium is just one of the medications. Lithium has been given to patients for decades and was once just for bipolar patients. Today, Lithium has been recognized as a way to stop the suicidal thoughts and it has been noted to help others deal more confidently with their disease. Although it cannot cure depression or even relieve depression, it enables the thoughts of death and hopelessness.
To tell if someone near and dear to you is dealing with depression and possible contemplating suicide you will want to look in a change of attitude. Have things that once meant something to them now mean nothing? Do they still want to do hobbies and such that they once loved? Have they pulled away from you? Any "yes"' to any of these questions might mean that they are dealing with something that they can't handle by themselves. They may be dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts.
