Beauty and Health Tips
If you are living an unhealthy lifestyle, you are increasing the risk of developing high cholesterol. Having high cholesterol is bad because it increases the risk of you having a heart attack, stroke, or high blood pressure. This article will explain the basics of cholesterol. You will learn what cholesterol is, what causes high cholesterol, and ways to manage it. After reading, you should then be able to take small steps in decreasing the amount of bad cholesterol in your body.
Cholesterol is a white crystalline substance found in animal tissues that is normally synthesized by the liver. It is important as a constituent of cell membranes, and a precursor to steroid hormones.
It primarily travels in the blood as two compounds: high density lipoproteins (HDL) and low density lipoproteins (LDL). HDL is often referred to as the good cholesterol, while LDL is considered the bad cholesterol.
The primary cause of high cholesterol comes from the unhealthy foods you eat. Foods that are high in saturated fat such as butter, cheese, and whole milk are the most prone to giving a person high cholesterol. As you eat, cholesterol from food is absorbed by your digestive tract. The food then travels into your liver and circulates through your body in the bloodstream. Generally, all foods that are of animal origin have the highest amount of cholesterol.
If you currently have high cholesterol or have a family history of this illness, then there are healthy steps you can take to manage it.
*Lifestream LSP3200 Cholesterol Test Strips for Lifestream Cholesterol Monitors allow you to monitor your cholesterol levels.
* If you smoke, ask your doctor for suggestions on how to quit.
* Get routine health checkups and cholesterol screenings.
* Choose foods that are low in saturated fat.
* Exercise at least 30 minutes a day.
* Lose weight if you are overweight.
High cholesterol makes you feel tired, moody, and irritable. The hardest part about managing your cholesterol is refraining from the good fattening foods that we`ve enjoyed for years. Don`t get discouraged if you don`t notice lower cholesterol after the first day. Improving your health is a marathon, not a sprint. Until next time, later.
We really do care about your health and happiness and are thrilled you are interested in our articles, but please always check with your doctor before trying something new!
Cholesterol and Diet
Lowering your dietary intake of cholesterol is recommended to maintain overall good health. Basic dietary guidelines are as follows.
Limit the following in your diet:
Fats, especially saturated fats.
All foods containing partially hydrogenated vegetable oils (most margarines and baked goods.
Dairy fats, such as whole milk, cheese made with whole milk, butter, egg yolks, sour cream.
Vegetable oil and lard.
Beef, especially the less-lean cuts.
Products made of refined sugars and flours.
Most animal fats and hydrogenated fats are solid at room temperature, and have more of the LDL, or 'bad' cholesterol. Also known as 'trans fats,' these are the fats to avoid. Look carefully on the ingredients label for the words, 'hydrogenated,' or 'trans fats.' The most common foods with trans fats are cookies, pies, cakes, chips, snack and convenience foods. These foods also usually contain refined sugars and flours, making them doubly bad for cholesterol levels.
Instead, use these:
Fruits and vegetables, most of which are cholesterol-free, and which help lower cholesterol levels.
Whole-grain breads and cereals.
Low-fat or skim milk, yogurt, sour cream and cheeses.
Canola oil or extra virgin olive oil.
Chicken, turkey and fish.
Legumes and nuts.
Margarines made of plant sterol esters, such as Benecol, which help to lower cholesterol levels.
Foods high in fiber have the added benefit of helping to absorb and eliminate cholesterol from the intestines. Fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes and nuts are all high in fiber. Some fruits, such as citrus, apples, cranberries and blackberries are high in pectin, and are particularly good at reducing cholesterol levels.
Putting it into Practice
A change of lifestyle and eating habits can be very, very hard, especially if the habits are habits acquired over a lifetime. One way to help implement these all-important changes, is to start small. Set a small, short-term goal, such as switching to low-fat dairy products and whole grain breads. When that becomes habit, and the tastebuds are acclimatized to the new flavors, make another small change, such as adding fruits and vegetables to the diet. Next, try eliminating soda pops, exchanging them for water and sugar-free, non carbonated drinks.
Make each step small and be patient, waiting for the change to become easy. It may take a year or two, but eventually, persistence will pay off, and a new healthier diet will be habit.

Cholesterol management is very important in reducing your risk for heart disease and stroke. Eating a diet that is low in saturated fat and cholesterol is one way to reduce your risk for these diseases. Exercise is also an important factor. Exercise helps increase your HDL (good cholesterol). Not smoking can also improve your cholesterol.
The most difficult change to make for many people is the elimination of refined sugars and flours from the diet. Refined fours and sugars can be very addictive, giving the body a 'sugar rush' that may be hard to live without at first. A first step may be switching to whole grain flours, and then switching from sugar to sucralose, such as Splenda sweetener.
Bad Cholesterol Level
Your total cholesterol should be below 200 mg/dL. Between 200 and 239 mg/dL is considered borderline high, and a total cholesterol of 240 mg/dL and above is considered high.
The general guidelines for optimal lipid levels are below. However, if you have other risk factors, such as previous heart attack, diabetes, smoking, high blood pressure, etc., your target level may vary. Always follow the advice and guidelines set by your physician.
LDL (bad cholesterol) should be below 100 mg/dL. An LDL of 160-189 mg/dL is considered high and an LDL of 190 mg/dL and above is very high.
HDL (good cholesterol) should be greater than 40 mg/dL, with optimal range being 60 mg/dL and above.
Triglyceride level should be below 150 mg/dL. A triglyceride level over 200 mg/dL is high and a level over 500 mg/dL is considered very high.
Food high in cholesterol
You should limit your total cholesterol intake to less than 300 mg per day (less than 200 mg per day if you have heart disease). Animal foods, such as meat, fish, poultry, butter, cheese, egg yolks and whole-milk dairy products, are high in cholesterol. While eggs and shellfish are low in saturated fat, they are major sources of cholesterol. Egg whites, however, do not have any cholesterol.
Food that lowers cholesterol
Soluble fiber can help lower cholesterol. Some foods high in soluble fiber are oat bran, rice bran, barley, oatmeal, strawberries, apples, beans and peas. Soy proteins are also a good source for reducing cholesterol and soy may also raise your HDL level.
Foods high in Omega-3s, such as cold water fish like salmon and tuna, can help lower your level of triglycerides. Flaxseed is another good source for Omega-3s.
Garlic and hawthorn are natural botanicals that can help lower cholesterol.
If you eat dairy products, try fat-free milk and cheeses, which do not contain cholesterol. Bake, broil, or grill foods instead of frying. Use oils that are low in saturated fat, such as olive oil.

The Statin drug is the mosttoday, and is derived from yeast. effective cholesterol lowering agent used This is why red rice yeast is such an effective and natural way to reduce your cholesterol.
As a matter of fact the FDA had tried to make it a regulated drug and remove it from the health food store shelf. But, the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 prevent this from happening. (And it is my belief that if we don’t change this congress they will get their way eventually, and alternative care will be a thing of the past.)
Already this congress has deregulated so much that it has freed the companies of the responsibility that would force them to guarantee the purity and the quantities that are claimed on their labels. Isn’t lobbying wonderful? So with that being said, if you take red rice yeast, try to buy it from reputable companies so that you are more likely to be getting what the label says you are getting.
In addition to the red rice yeast a liver cleanse will also help.
The Liver Cleanse
The liver cleanse dramatically improves digestion, and cleanses the liver of gallstones. The liver cleanse will help to make allergies disappear, more so with each cleanse that you do. It will also reduce or eliminate shoulder, upper arm and upper back pain. You will have more energy and an increased sense of well being.
According to Dr. Hulda Clark, and it is her liver cleanse that I would suggest, or The Amazing Liver Cleanse by Andres Mortiz, either one is excellent. The Amazing Liver Cleanse book can be found at www.drclarkuniversity.org or www.drhuldaclark.org and the recipe and directions for Dr. Clark’s Liver cleanse can also be found at the above address (for free) or go there directly by clicking or pasting this in your browser http://www.drhuldaclark.org/therapy_liver.asp
It is the job of the liver to make bile, 1 to 1 1/2 quarts in a day! The liver is full of tubes (biliary tubing) that deliver the bile to one large tube (the common bile duct). The gallbladder is attached to the common bile duct and acts as a storage reservoir. Eating fat or protein triggers the gallbladder to squeeze itself empty after about twenty minutes, and the stored bile finishes its trip down the common bile duct to the intestine. (It is the liver cleanse that will clear the liver of gallstones), To learn more about the liver cleanse and why there are gallstones in the liver go to the above web site or pick up the Cure For All Diseases by Dr. Hulda Clark, also available at the above website.
Below is text taken from The Cure For All Advanced Cancers, by Dr. Hulda Clark p.62 also available from www.drclarkuniversity.org
For many persons, including children, the biliary tubing is choked with gallstones. Some develop allergies or hives but some have no symptoms. When the gallbladder is scanned or X-rayed nothing is seen. Typically, they are not in the gallbladder. Not only that most are too small and not calcified a prerequisite for visibility on X-ray. There are over half a dozen varieties of gallstones, most of which have cholesterol crystals in them. They can be black, red, white, green or tan colored.
The green ones get their color from being coated with bile. Notice in the picture how many have imbedded unidentified objects. Are they fluke remains? Notice how many are shaped like corks with longitudinal grooves below the tops. We can visualize the blocked bile ducts from such shapes. Other stones are composites - made of many smaller ones - showing that they regrouped in the bile ducts some time after the last cleanse. At the very center of each stone is found a clump of bacteria, according to scientists, suggesting that a dead bit of parasite might have started the stone forming.
As the stones grow and become more numerous the back pressure on the liver causes it to make less bile. It is also thought to slow the flow of lymphatic fluid. Imagine the situation if your garden hose had marbles in it. Much less water would flow, which in turn would decrease the ability of the hose to squirt out the marbles. With gallstones, much less cholesterol leaves the body and cholesterol levels may rise Gallstones, being porous, can pick up all the bacteria, cysts viruses and parasites that are passing through the liver. In this way "nests" of infection are formed, forever supplying the body with fresh bacteria and parasite stages. No stomach infection such as ulcers or intestinal bloating can be cured permanently without removing these gallstones from the liver. For best results, ozonate the olive oil in this recipe to kill any parasite stages or viruses that may be released during the cleanse...
This procedure contradicts many modern medical viewpoints. Gallstones are thought to be formed in the gallbladder, not the liver. They are thought to be few, not thousands. They are not linked to pains other than gallbladder attacks. It is easy to understand why this is thought: by the time you have acute pain attacks, some stones are in the gallbladder, are big enough and sufficiently calcified to see on X-ray, and have caused inflammation there. When the gallbladder is removed the acute attacks are gone, but the bursitis and other pains and digestive problems remain.
The truth is self-evident. People who have had their gallbladder surgically removed still get plenty of green, bile-coated stones, and anyone who cares to dissect their stones can see that the concentric circles and crystals of cholesterol match textbook pictures of "gallstones" exactly.
