Controversy abounds on this topic; however, numerous studies over the past decade have shown a solid connection between the risk of prostate cancer and dairy consumption. A cohort study just published in mid 2005 by the American Journal of Nutrition showed that men with the highest dietary intake of dairy foods were 2.2 times more likely to develop prostate cancer than men with the lowest dietary intake of dairy foods.
Prior theories circled around the increase in IGF-1 (insulin growth hormone) seen in milk drinkers. High levels of IGF-1 have been directly linked to various hormonal cancers. Although this theory may still hold some validity, research has uncovered a potential cause that has further heated the debate on dairy and prostate cancer, calcium. The same study referenced above showed a 2.2 times increase in prostate cancer risk for men with the highest dietary calcium intake over those with the lowest. Another study in 2001 observed over 20,000 men, and concluded that men who consumed more than 600mg of daily calcium from dairy products had a 32% higher risk of prostate cancer than men who consumed less than 150mg of daily calcium from dairy products. This came as quite a shock, since the USDA recommends a minimum of 1200mg of daily calcium for men over 50, and 1000mg for men aged 19 to 50.
As long as the medical community remains uncertain, there will be no shortage of clinical trials and interpretations addressing the subject of diet and prostate cancer.

October 5, 2005 Lindon, Utah- For the fourth consecutive year, a Utah-based candle company has focused its efforts on raising awareness of breast cancer to help women learn more about the disease and how they can prevent it. This year For Every Body donated 1,500 breast cancer candles to hospitals in Utah at the beginning of October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Each woman who receives a mammogram throughout the month will receive a free candle. Each of the pink, nine ounce candles is accompanied by a postcard with facts about breast cancer.
It was created in 1999 to support the crusade against breast cancer. It is sold in several different retail locations throughout the United States.
The plumeria scented candle is called "Hope for a Cure." A portion of all proceeds go toward breast cancer research.
According to Becky Lunceford, owner and founder of For Every Body, breast cancer awareness is something all women should be more informed about.
"I have been touched by the stories I've heard from some of our employees who had someone in their families who have suffered from breast cancer," Lunceford said. "I feel very strongly about creating better awareness in our community and nationwide on how to detect breast cancer early." According to the National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organization, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women in the United States and every woman is at risk. If the cancer is detected early, it can be treated. Mammography screening cannot prevent or cure breast cancer, but it may discover breast cancer before the symptoms occur. "Hope for a Cure" candles can also be purchased at any of For Every Body's Utah locations or at www.foreverybody.com.
For Every Body is a bath and body and candle manufacturer established in 1995 by Becky Lunceford. It began in her kitchen and has grown into one of the largest privately held candle manufacturers in the country. They are in twelve nationwide show rooms and have more than 120 national sales representatives. For Every Body also employs about 200 people and still runs three retail stores in Lindon, Orem and Draper, Utah.
For Every Body is a candle manufacturer based in Lindon. They have created a candle to create awareness of breast cancer across the nation and Canada.
Mesothelioma is a type of cancer affecting the cells of mesothelial lining in the chest and abdomen. Mesothelioma is rare, though it appears to be on the rise. Approximately 2,000 to 3,000 new cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed each year in the United States alone. Symptoms for both types of mesothelioma are not specific only to this disease, and often go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for a significant amount of time. Difficulty breathing, abdominal and chest pain, and fever can all be attributed to other causes, so this cancer has time to advance fairly fair before diagnosis usually occurs. Due to the difficulty in diagnosis of mesothelioma, survival time after diagnosis is estimated at about a year.
The first type, pleural mesothelioma, spreads within the chest cavity, and sometimes involves the lungs. This type or cancer can metastasize into any of the body's organs, including the brain. Metastasis occurs more often than previously thought, and signals the disease's progression. Symptoms of pleural mesothelioma include persistent pain in the chest and severe difficulty breathing caused by pleural effusion, or an accumulation of fluid in the pleural lining Cough, weight loss, and fever are also common symptoms. Survival time for this type of mesothelioma is better than that of peritoneal mesothelioma. The median survival time is 17 months, with ten percent of patients living for three years after diagnosis.
The second type of mesothelioma is peritoneal mesothelioma. This cancer invades the abdominal cavity, the liver, spleen, and sometimes the bowel. Predominant symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma include persistent pain the region as well as a swollen abdomen, both due to the accumulation of fluid in the abdomen and affected organs. Other symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and swelling of feet, fever, and difficulty moving the bowels. The prognosis for peritoneal mesothelioma is worse than that of pleural mesothelioma, with a median survival time of only ten months past diagnosis.
Mesothelioma takes two rarer forms. Benign mesothelioma is a cancer of the mesothelioma of the peritoneum. The peritoneum is the lining of the major organs in the chest and abdomen. It is difficult to diagnose, and appears more frequently in young women. Mesothelioma of the pericardium is a very rare cardiac cancer. Mesothelioma can also occur in the ovaries and scrotum. The prognosis for these unusual kinds of mesothelioma, with the exception of benign mesothelioma, is very poor.
The progression of mesothelioma is broken down to four stages. These stages provide a baseline to predict how far along the cancer has spread. Staging is based on x-rays, CT scans, and MRI imaging. Treatment decisions and prognosis depend upon the stage of the mesothelioma, as well as the kind if mesothelioma. In the first stage, mesothelioma is present in the pleura, lung, pericardium, or diaphragm, and is localized to one side of the body. Mesothelioma invades the chest wall or the esophagus during the second stage. The second stage may also see cancer in the heart, both sides of the pleura, or the lymph nodes in the chest. The third stage involves penetration through the diaphragm and into the peritoneum, and sees cancer spread to more distant lymph nodes. The fourth and final stage occurs when tests provide evidence of metastases in distant organs. Within the fourth stage, the mesothelioma spreads through the bloodstream to these new sights.
Mesothelioma is most often caused by exposure to Asbestos. Asbestos was frequently used for insulation in homes or businesses. Schools, factories, and military buildings have also been found to contain asbestos. Radiation from thorium dioxide may also cause mesothelioma. This material was once used for x-rays, though was not widely used for long. Zeolite, a silicate material related to asbestos, may also cause mesothelioma. Cases of Zeolite-induced mesothelioma centralize in the Anatoli region of Turkey.
Mesothelioma: A Deadly Lung Cancer
Mesothelioma is a deadly cancer of the lungs and the abdominal cavities. Unlike other diseases, the cause of mesothelioma is not natural. In most of the cases, it is a cancer of lungs inflicted on the human beings by the modern economic factors, which are also credited to bring prosperity to the corporate world. The disease has left many dead and many more fighting for the failing health. The common symptoms related to the disease are breathlessness, dry cough and pain in the respiratory tracts followed by vomiting. The prime Cause of mesothelioma is the exposure to asbestos.
Asbestos is a natural fibrous material that was widely used in various industries and building materials because of its stability and heat resistant properties. However, asbestos is also a deadly contaminant and responsible for serious diseases such as asbestosis, mesothelioma cancers and lung cancer. Most of the diseases are caused by inhalation of asbestos fibers that could settle in the internal body organs and cause serious diseases. Mesothelioma and other asbestos related diseases can lie dormant in the body for decades before diagnosis. The worst part is that after diagnosis the patient has hardly any left for fighting these diseases.
Asbestos has extensively been mined in South Africa and exported to UK & US factories for reprocessing. For many years, the industrialists enjoyed the benefits of asbestos as a cheap substitute to wood in Building Material Industry and an integral part of Brake Lining material used extensively in vehicles during the World Wars. Asbestos was also widely used as an Insulation material in the buildings and industries in the US and Europe.
The victims of mesothelioma can file lawsuits for seeking compensation against the companies responsible for asbestos exposure. They can seek compensation for medical expenses, loss of income, lost earning capacity, pain and sufferings. The family members and relatives of the people who die because of mesothelioma cancers can also file lawsuits for compensation to recover the loss of consortium care. A dozen of companies who made an exit from the business decades ago are still fighting the huge compensation bills pending against them for causing a major biological disorder. The courts have ordered huge amounts as compensation in most of the mesothelioma lawsuits.

Asbestos And Lung Cancer
Asbestos and lung cancer, yes it is true that asbestos is a major reason for the cause of this deadly disease. Before we analyze the interrelationship between asbestos and lung cancer it is necessary to understand what is asbestos and what are its health implications.
What is Asbestos?
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral in the form of bundled fibers. Asbestos fibers are heat and chemical resistant and are poor conductor of electricity. These qualities make it fit for commercial use. Industries use four types of Asbestos: Chrysolite or white asbestos, Crocidolite or blue asbestos, Anthophyllite or gray colored fibers and Amosite or brown colored fibers. These asbestos fibers break into tiny dust particles and thus easily inhaled or swallowed which can cause serious health disorders. Lung cancer caused from asbestos is one such example.
Health Hazards of Asbestos
Regular exposure to asbestos can result in several serious diseases such as lung cancer, mesothelioma cancers and asbestosis. Asbestosis is as lung disease that produces shortness of breath, coughing and permanent damage to lungs and Mesothelioma-a rare cancer of membrane covering the chest and abdomen, and cancers of larynx, oropharynx, gastrointestinal tract and kidney.
Regular exposure of asbestos results in occupational diseases such as lung cancer and mesothelioma. Since 1940, millions of American workers, working in shipbuilding companies, mining and milling of asbestos, manufacturing of asbestos textiles and other asbestos products, insulation in construction and building trades, and brake repair were exposed to asbestos. Demolition workers, drywall removers and firefighters are also at risk of being exposed to asbestos that may cause lung cancer in them.
Due to stringent norms and improved work practices, today's workers face negligible risks of lung cancer from asbestos. Although heavier and longer exposure time is held responsible for the risk but investigators found that brief exposures could also lead to infection. Not only the workers but also their families are at risk of asbestos diseases and lung cancer. Para occupational exposure occurs because asbestos fibers are brought into the house by means of shoes, clothing, skin and hair of workers. To avoid this exposure workers are required to take shower and change their clothing before leaving their workplace.
The difficult portion of asbestos related diseases and asbestos related lung cancer is that they can lie dormant in the body for 10-40 years before manifesting. This makes it difficult to diagnose the disease in its early stages. When the diseases are manifested and diagnosed, it is too late and chances of survival of victims are very bleak.

Latest studies show that mortality caused by cancer has been declining, and death rates from all types of cancers combined, has dropped considerably from 1993 to our days. These results indicate a progress in prevention and early detection of cancer. To participate in a clinical trial is a very important and personal decision. It is very helpful to talk to your physician and also to your family about your thoughts of participating in a clinical trial. Once you identify the trial options, you must contact the research institute and ask all the questions you may have related to your case. To participate in a clinical trial you must qualify in their guidelines, which is called Inclusion Criteria. This criteria is based on the following factors: your age, gender, your previous treatment history, other medical conditions you may have, and the type and stage of your disease. Some of these research institutes are looking for patients on their advanced stage of cancer and other are looking for healthy participants. Clinical Trials will engage more doctor visits and more tests than what it would normally be for a patient under a regular treatment.
You may find an excellent source of cancer information at: www.cancernewsandinformation.com
To learn, and to get tons of information is the key of getting the right clinical trial. If your native language is not English, do not worry you will have translation assistance provided by the research institute. Read everything you receive from them and get a full understanding of what will be the process, before you take a decision. You must understand that clinical trials have some risks, such as: some serious or even life-threatening side effects - It may be unpleasant - some experimental treatment may not be effective for some patients - it may implicate hospital stays or continuous trips to the study site. On the other hand, the benefits of participating in a clinical trial the fact that you will get access to a new research treatment before this one is available to others - you will help others by contributing to medical research and also you will have access to expert medical care and advanced health care facilities during the process.

Asbestos cancer law includes those laws that have been established by various governments that regulate exposure to asbestos in the workplace. Asbestos cancer law also allows people who are injured as a result of prolonged asbestos exposure to seek compensation from their employer. This is often done in various class action lawsuits on the part of employees against companies that manufactured asbestos related products.
Luckily, the news on prostate cancer isn't all that bad. Several other nutrients, vitamins, and minerals have been given a gold star for their potential to reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Fructose (fruit), selenium (seafood, mushrooms, grains), vitamin D (sunshine), vitamin E (nuts, seeds, & greens), lycopene (tomatoes), soy...wait a minute...did we just mention soy in a discussion of men's health? Oh yes, it seems that a prospective study in the US indicated a 70% reduction in the risk of prostate cancer among men who consumed more than one serving of soy milk per day.
Asbestos has historically been part of over 5000 different products and has been in use for over hundreds of years. Asbestos finds its use in a wide variety of appliances - vehicle brakes, building materials, ships, roofing materials, plastics, paints, some paper products, and much more. Asbestos exposure has proved very harmful to human health. Even though the ill effects of asbestos exposure have been well known for quite some time, some organizations still choose to use asbestos. Not only that, most structures still have products containing asbestos. Shipyard, automotive, factory, construction, custodial and building industry workers are all exposed to asbestos in greater or lesser extents.
Asbestos laws protect people from the harmful consequences of asbestos exposure. Asbestos exposure at dangerous levels can lead to asbestosis- a build up of scar tissue in the lungs. This results from inhaling asbestos fibers that interrupt normal lung functioning and can finally lead to death or disability. Mesothelioma cancer is a severe and in most cases deadly cancer and the main reason for its occurrence is asbestos exposure. In most cases it takes a large time to diagnose the illness and hence the survival time for mesothelioma victims is extremely short; on average a patient has only one more year to live. Asbestos law allows a victim to recover medical expenses, lost income, and compensation for pain and suffering from his employer. If a victim has died because of asbestos related disease, asbestos law also permits the victim's family to recover damages related to the injury.
Asbestos laws give certain guidelines to determine permissible exposure levels for asbestos in the workplace: 0.1 fibers per cubic centimeter for an eight hour work period and one fiber per cubic centimeter in any given thirty minute time period. The law also enforces on the employers the need to conduct frequent exposure monitoring and create regulated work areas. Under asbestos law, the employers must also provide their employees with protective respiratory and clothing equipment, adequate hygiene facilities, training on how to safely work with asbestos and routine health exams in case they are at a risk of being exposed to asbestos.
