Finding bed wetting solutions is something that parents spend a lot of time looking for when they have an older child with a bedwetting problem. There are many products on the market that offer relief in keeping the child dry at night, but these are not really solutions that will cure the bed wetting forever.
When a child continues wetting the bed or redevelops bedwetting past the age of 5, a thorough investigation needs to be carried out by a health care provider. Usually bedwetting stops as the child’s bladder develops and he/she learns to recognize the signs of a full bladder during the night. There are several bed wetting solutions available for parents to use.
Many different manufacturers make these alarms and they are not all alike or equally effective. It may take a bit of experimenting to find the one that is right for your child. These alarms are devices with moisture detection systems. As soon as moisture is detected, an alarm sounds to wake the child so that he/she will go to the bathroom instead of wetting the bed. You still need to use urine collection products such as liners or pull ups along with these bedwetting solutions because they do take time to change the sleep/waking behavior.
Even with using bed wetting alarms as a solution, in the case of children who are deep sleepers, they may still need to be awakened by parents. The sound of the alarm will need to be adjusted so that parents will wake up when it goes off, if this is the situation. They also need to be reset, so children have to learn to do this or the parents will have to be awake so that they can reset the alarm. These bed wetting solutions usually take about 4 to 6 weeks before the child becomes adjusted to being awakened by the sound of the alarm. They also need to be snug so that they won’t come off in the night and they need to be comfortable. If these factors are not taken into consideration, then the alarms will not be effective bedwetting solutions.
Studies with the use of bed wetting alarms have shown that they are the most effective bed wetting solutions. After 12 to 14 weeks of continuous use, the child learns bladder control and will wake up when he/she needs to use the bathroom. Although there are medications that are also effective bedwetting solutions, they do have side effects that can make the child sick. In addition, when you use medication as a solution for bed wetting, as soon as the child stops taking the medication, bedwetting will resume.
Some of the other bed wetting solutions include hypnosis, chiropractic therapy and exercises to improve the muscles of the bladder. Of all of these, however, the bed wetting alarms have proven to be the most effective of all. This is because they use behavior modification as the method of bed wetting solution, which is the one that will last.
As always, before you attempt to self medicate or try a new health regimen or program we suggest you retain the services of a qualified health care professional.
Adult Bed Wetting – What Is The Solution?
Adult bed wetting is a common problem as you can see from all the TV ads about bedwetting disposable diapers available for adults. The first thing for adults to do when they have a bed-wetting problem is to consult with a doctor to make sure that there is nothing medically wrong to cause this problem to develop. Bedwetting in the adult years can be a symptom of diabetes, kidney or bladder problems or something as simple as a urinary tract infection, for which there are antibiotics. Even though disposable diapers do help adults feel more comfortable, adult bed wetting does need to be checked out.
Allergies, cell anemia, and sleep disorders are also causes for adult bed wetting. Researchers dealing with this problem have also found psychological factors to be involved, such as stress and trauma. In some cases, age is the culprit as the muscles of the bladder start to lose their elasticity causing adult bed-wetting. Enuresis alarms work just as well for adults as they do for children and teenagers. These alarms wake you up out of your sleep at the first sign of moisture so that you do have time to get to the bathroom instead of wetting the bed.
You do not necessarily need to take DDAVP every day in order for it to control adult bed wetting. You can either take this as pill or a spray, but a cold or a stuffy nose is likely to interfere with the action of the medication taken in spray form. You do have to take the medication at night and it does have side effects, which some adults are unable to handle. The common side effects of this adult bedwetting medication include headache, nausea, sinus problems and nosebleeds. When you are taking this medication you are not allowed to drink any water after taking it.
For adults, Imipramine is an anti-depressant drug that has been found effective in treating adult bed wetting. Like DDAVP, this reduces the amount of urine the body produces during the night. However, most doctors do not like to prescribe this medication because of its many side effects. In fact prescribing medication for adult bedwetting is usually the last resort. Doctors prefer to try methods of behavior modification first and if the adult is comfortable, disposable diapers keep the bed sheets dry at night. Adult bed wetting is a problem that doctors are well used to dealing with, so there is no need for embarrassment when deciding to talk to a doctor about your problem.
Overcoming Bed Wetting Quickly and Painlessly
I have been involved in Accelerated Learning for 20 years now, specialising in dyslexics and slow learners. Naturally one begins to see patterns pretty quickly and one of the most obvious was anxiety or second stage tension in 99% of the children. That was to be expected.
There are medications that have proven effective in controlling adult bed wetting. One of these is DDAVP, which helps to reduce the amount of urine that the body makes at night. Adults who drink a lot of liquids may have to use the bathroom more at night and if they take medication for insomnia, then they might find it hard to wake up when they need to. This medication helps to treat the symptoms of adult bed-wetting, which means that you will not urinate as often during the night. However, this is not a cure for adult bedwetting. It is mainly a measure to control it. Once you stop taking the medication, bedwetting will start again.
What I didn’t expect was the small army of bed wetters, though that fact was not always divulged within the 4 sessions it took to learn my techniques. However I developed two techniques for all my students to combat the stress factor. Through my post graduate work in stress management I knew the importance of a calm, alert mind to the learning process and how anxiety and tension could come close to destroying that process completely.
The technique I adapted and developed for the under 12s, The Magic Garden, had a very pleasant, and at the time unexpected, secondary benefit. It stopped bedwetting in around 10 days. Nightmares and sleepwalking were also reported to stop around this point. (Some of the parent testimonials on the website refer to this.)
During my first year of seeing students, the parents of the juniors who were receiving the Magic Garden tape I made for them (no CDs back in the 80’s), began telling me that their child’s bed wetting had stopped, usually within a week to ten days of playing the Magic Garden as the child lay in bed ready for sleep.
Though this wasn’t the intention of the technique I was delighted because this added to the new found confidence of the children generally, all of which helped the learning process. It was at this point that I learned of the years of trauma and embarrassment that bed wetting had caused and at times, the phenomenal amount of money spent on techniques and alarms that were next to useless or took for ever to produce results.
I am pleased to report that 20 years later the Magic Garden is one of the biggest sellers on the website. There is now a written version which is in 7 languages so parents can read the story to their children.
Feel free to email me for details of the Magic Garden, I never tire of speaking about it: email@example.com

A huge number of children are affected by nocturnal enuresis, or sleep wetting, as it is often called. Although there is no specific treatment for this condition, parents can still find some good bed wetting solutions that work. This sort of problem is most common with children under the age of five – any extreme measures against it are simply not justified. However, sleep wetting is a problem and it may become an annoying issue to deal with, both for parents and for the child. While children under five do not have obvious psychological issues related to this phenomenon, after a certain age they become conscious about it. This is when finding appropriate bed wetting solutions becomes important for the child’s social development.
How to diminish the negative effects of bed-wetting
While this problem is natural for small children, parents can still take a few steps and reduce the negative effects associated to it. Parents can start by investing some time in preventing the problem from taking place. As part of the most commonly used bed wetting solutions, parents can control the levels of liquid their child drinks in the evening and before going to sleep. Diuretic drinks are those that fall in the following categories: caffeine containing, carbonated and acidic. Stopping your child from consuming them at night is an excellent bed wetting solution. It also helps if the parent trains the child to go to the toilet right before going to sleep. It is important that a pattern is developed in this case and the child will learn to urinate at a specific hour in the evening. This method, combined with low liquid quantities consumed in the evening, has some of the best results in reducing bed wetting at night.
Bed wetting solutions - diapers
Although the actual urinating process can’t be stopped, its effects may be reduced if the child wears a diaper. The diaper eliminates all the problems that affect the parents: having to change bed sheets every morning and it also helps the child sleep better and wake up in a dry bed. Older children might be against wearing a diaper, as they feel they are too old for that, so a simple change of term – from “diaper” to “night protection” is preferable. As an extra protection method, parents should also have protective plastic sheets because diapers are not 100% leak absorbents.
The radical approach to bed wetting – medications
Using medication to reduce nigh time urination is one of the most radical bed wetting solutions and, in most cases, the most effective as well. Treatments with medication such as anticholinergics, desmopressin or imipramine are often used to solve bed wetting problems. While such drugs have high success rates, parents should also remember that they are chemical and hormonal substances, and long-term usage may lead to unwanted side effects. As far as bed wetting medication is concerned, the opinions are varied, many parents trying to avoid this solution at all costs and teach the child to deal with the problem on their own.

Get A Bed Wetting Alarm - Stay Dry Throughout The Night
A bed wetting alarm is a very effective device to use when helping children overcome nocturnal enuresis. Bedwetting is very embarrassing to children and if not handled sensitively, it can have psychological effects, such as making them feel ashamed of fearful. Alarms for bed wetting help to treat the problem rather than just mask the symptoms to make it appear as if the bed-wetting problem has been resolved. A bed wetting alarm is a device to be used along with another method of treatment. Parents should be aware that this device on its own will not cure bed wetting.
A bedwetting alarm is a moisture detection system, which is worn with underpants designed for moisture. These can be the pull-ups as advertised on TV for children of all ages or regular underpants. If you use regular underpants with the bed wetting alarm, you should have liners on the mattress because it does take some time before these alarms start to work. You should not expect a miracle to occur the very first night your child wears the bedwetting alarm. There are many different kinds of bedwetting alarms so it’s important to choose the one that is right for your child.
There are signs that will tell you if a bed wetting alarm will be good for you. First and foremost is the price. This must fit within your budget and of course it must be comfortable for the child. Most of the bedwetting alarms have some method of attaching them to the nightclothes, preferably the underpants. You should carefully inspect it to make sure that there are no sharp edges which will dig into the child and prevent him/her from getting a good night’s sleep. If the bedwetting alarm is not comfortable, it will not be effective.
One of the most popular and convenient ways to deal with this problem is with a product that is made specifically for older children with this issue. It is made much the same way as a diaper, but is larger and less bulky. When a child is wearing it, the product is virtually undetectable by anyone. This makes it possible for older children to attend functions such as sleepovers without the worry of being embarrassed in the morning. These are disposable and really do help the child and the parent both deal with the issue of incontinence while sleeping.
Bedwetting alarms use batteries as power, so there won’t be any wires in which your child can become entangled. You do need to make sure that the replacement batteries are a reasonable price and keep a stock of them on hand. Once the sensor on the bed wetting alarm does detect moisture it will emit a sound to wake the child. You do have to experiment with the sound to make sure that it will wake the child without waking up anyone else in the house, if that is what you want. Once the alarm goes off and the child gets up to the bathroom, a bedwetting alarm needs to be reset. Therefore you will probably have to teach the child to reset this or tell him/her to wake you so that you can do it for him/her.
Another factor you have to take into consideration when using a bed wetting alarm is the level of moisture that you want it to detect. If you set it too low, even sweating during the night might set the alarm off and if you set it too high, then the child might have actually wet the bed before it goes off. You need a bedwetting alarm that will not slip out of place as your child tosses and turns during the night. Bedwetting alarms also have to be durable so that if the child drops them, they do not break easily. A bed wetting alarm must be loud enough to wake the child or it will not be effective.
Primary Nocturnal Enuresis also known as bedwetting can be a very traumatic situation for children as well as their parents to handle on a daily basis. For the children, it can be embarrassing, for the parents, it’s a frustrating issue that they may not understand. While this isn’t an easy issue for children to deal with, by being informed parents, you can help them get through this trying time.
Kids that have this problem are often described as deep sleepers by their parents. They may be hard to wake up and may even sleepwalk or have nightmares on a regular occasion. It is a common consideration among doctors that a child who is a bed wetter is a girl over the age of four and a boy over five years of age.
The most common reason for bedwetting in older children is a smaller than average bladder, or an over production of urine, which in turn, fills the bladder during the night. Physical causes are rare, but may include lower spinal cord lesions, congenital malformations of the genitourinary tract, and infections of the urinary tract or diabetes.
There are options available to parents to help their children deal with the issue and perhaps help solve it. The most important thing that a parent can do is to explain to the child that this isn’t their fault; it isn’t something that they can control. Bedwetting is believed to be inherited; it is likely that a parent, grandparent or other relative also has dealt with it. It might be helpful for that person to speak with the child.
Some other effective methods are to limit the fluid intake before bedtime. This is especially true of drinks that include caffeine in the ingredients. The use of alarms to wake the child up one or two times a night to go to the bathroom may also help to prevent wet beds. There is also a moisture alarm, which only sounds if it gets wet with even a couple of drops of moisture. This devise allows the child to sleep uninterrupted until the need to wake up arises. While these methods may work to help curb the bedwetting issue, they may not be all that is needed. A couple of options that are at the disposal of today’s parents are hypnotherapy and medicines. There have been studies done which have shown that hypnotizing a child may help to prevent the bedwetting.
There is a medicine that is known to help children deal with their bedwetting issues. Imiprmine is a type of anti-depressant drug that has a relaxing effect on the bladder while it tightens the sphincter muscle. This in turn prevents the passing of urine. The downside to using this type of medication is that the habit will restart when the use of the medicine is stopped. These kinds of drugs are not often prescribed due to the fact that they have side effects associated with them, they are most often though of as a last resort.
Whatever method you choose to help your child over this hurdle in life, the most important thing to remember is that bedwetting can have a devastating effect on their self-esteem. It is so important to make sure that they know that the fault is not theirs, there isn’t anything that they have done to cause this and that they will grow out of it.
