Arthritis Pain Relief and Prevention

Referred to as the nation's number one crippling disease and the most common chronic disease in people over 40, arthritis affects more than 40 million Americans. And this figure is expected to rise to 60 million by 2020, according to the Center for Disease Control.

Many people are also seeking natural remedies because of the increasing cost of prescription medication.

Arthritis generally afflicts people between the ages of 20 and 50, but can affect all ages, even infants. The average age of onset is 47 and about three out of every five people with arthritis are under 65 years of age.

Arthritic expenditures for just one person due to lost wages, medical treatment and other related expenses can come to more than $150,000 in his or her lifetime. And doctors believe there are over 100 different forms of arthritis, all sharing one main characteristic: all forms cause joint inflammation.

What can be done for arthritis pain relief? Many things. For example, weight and nutrition are only a couple of factors that play a role in arthritic pain. And yet shedding even 10 pounds to relieve weight from knees and finding the right nutritional strategy can help relieve pain a lot.

There are many ways to effectively manage arthritic pain today to find relief. Available are arthritic diets, exercise programs, over-the-counter and prescription medications, relaxation and positive emotion coping techniques. Also available are surgeries, supplements, home remedies, natural and other alternative therapies. When arthritis is first suspected, it would be wise to seek a medical opinion first. Then as time and resources allow, check out the other options.

Herbal Remedies

For people who suffer from arthritis, dependable pain relief is a vital concern. The agonizing sensations of simply walking up the stairs are discouraging and can drive patients into depression. When someone cannot function properly, their body is not in balance and often; they will become victims of their pain, forcing them to seek alternatives. These people have often tried traditional medications without success, they are often no eligible for surgery and as a result, they will see relieve through natural remedies.

Before discontinuing a prescription medication, consult a physician. However, with a doctor's approval, there are many natural solutions, which may aid in managing arthritis. A popular alternative to medication for pain relief is acupuncture. Although the pain-relieving effects may be temporary, these sessions can be very beneficial for those who find that drugs or supplements are insufficient or have unacceptable side effects:

Cayenne Cream - apply the cayenne cream to painful areas. Cayenne peppers contain an substance called capsaicin which is responsible for their spicy effect. This also causes a burning sensation when it comes in contact with skin, and inhibits the body's production of substance P which is heavily involved the relaying signals of pain to the brain. Apply the cream two to three times per day for at least one week before making a decision as to whether or not the cream is helping to reduce arthritis pain.

It's understandable that many people experiencing pain and aching in a joint because of osteoarthritis reach for the aspirin or another conventional pain reliever. The problem is, these medications can be rough on your stomach, and they do nothing to slow the progress of your arthritis. Even the new COX-2 inhibitor drugs do not act to preserve the joint. [From the doctors of WholeHealthMD].

On the contrary, many natural remedies and supplements have been found to actually reduce cartilage deterioration and even rebuild a patient's lost cartilage. However, before adding any to your daily routine, check with your healthcare advisor, as supplements can cause adverse reactions and may not be right for your situation. Note that dietary supplements are not regulated by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration); i.e. do not need to be approved by them, and can include any of the following: plants, fats, proteins and animal organs and tissues as well as herbs, minerals and vitamins.

So some supplements may be fine for arthritic patients; however some may not be. Note also that manufacturers may very well promote that their products work great, but they do not have to use standardized ingredients or recipes, disclose side effects that have been reported, nor prove that the products are indeed effective. So use caution.

The most popular dietary supplements for arthritis sufferers are chondroitin, fish oil and glucosamine. Chondroitin can draw fluid into the cartilage, improving shock-absorbing ability and weight control, as more weight equals more joint pressure. Fish oils help with controlling inflammation in the body. And recent studies have shown that the cartilage-building substance called glucosamine is effective for the long-term relief of osteoarthritis pain.

In some people, glucosamine appears to even slow the deterioration of joints over time and reinforce joint cartilage. Whether or not it can actually reverse the disease is still unclear. In some instances, glucosamine can be used in conjunction with MSM, a substance that appears to slow down the degeneration but is not yet proven and approved.

In a nutshell:

· Chondroitin - Helps draw fluid into cartilage, improving shock-absorbing ability.

· Ginger - Ginger is an antioxidant that acts as an inflammatory with no major side effects.

· Glucosamine sulfate - This builds cartilage with very few side effects.

· Magnets - Although magnets that are worn as jewelry or placed on bed linens have been reported by some to be effective pain relievers, results are still preliminary; doctors claim that these magnets are not strong enough.

· MSM - This organic sulfur is used in the reduction of inflammation.

· Nettle leaf - Nettles can reduce a patient's need for NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) by up to 70 percent.

· Vitamin E - This antioxidant is used primarily for osteoarthritis.

· Vitamin B is also an effective pain reliever. It works best on the knee and can help stop degeneration that is caused by free-radical molecules, not only in the joints but in other areas of the body as well

These are merely a few examples of what an arthritis sufferer can use when seeking pain relief from natural remedies. However, due to the lack of scientific study and testing on many of these alternate treatments, there is no proof of their effectiveness.

Nothing can cure osteoarthritis, but nutritional supplements, the application of heat or cold to affected joints, exercise, and weight loss can improve the function and flexibility of your joints, and perhaps even slow the progress of the disease. Conventional over-the-counter pain relievers, such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen, can be very helpful in decreasing joint pain, but they do produce side effects and can cause problems in long-term users.

Unfortunately, there is no way to cure arthritis. However, you can delay the onset by maintaining a healthy weight. Exercise regularly and eat a healthy and avoid repetitious movements that cause you pain.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Medicine

On this page you will find the best rheumatoid arthritis medicine related information I have been able to provide. If it is not confined to rheumatoid arthritis medicine specifically, it is undoubtedly relevant, and at the very least it provides interesting further information on the subject. Hopefully it will be interesting to you and all the others seeking information concerning rheumatoid arthritis medicine.

Suffers of arthritis like spine arthritis, foot arthritis, viral arthritis, and/or reactive arthritis can join a support group. In an arthritis support group, arthritis sufferers can learn about arthritis exercise, arthritis prevention, arthritis creams, and/or arthritis diet techniques to help cope with the various painful and sometimes crippling signs and symptoms of arthritis, and/or an arthritis diagnosis.

What is shoulder arthritis, arthritis rheumatism, neck arthritis, infectious arthritis, and/or psoriatic arthritis pain? Foot arthritis pain, back arthritis pain, rheumatic arthritis pain, knee arthritis pain and other pains mean something is wrong in your body. Signs and symptoms of arthritis, signs of arthritis, or arthritis pain may begin as morning stiffness. And for millions of us, arthritis can become a crippling disease.

Temporal Arthritis

Temporal Arthritis is Easily Treated with Corticosteroid Drugs

Many people are not familiar with temporal arthritis. Temporal arthritis is an inflammation of the medium and large arteries which run along the head. These arteries bring the blood supply to the scalp. Young people are not usually diagnosed with temporal arthritis and it is usually found in individuals who are over 50. As with other forms of arthritis, the cause of temporal arthritis is unknown. However, it is thought to be brought about by a disorder in the body's immune system.

A sign of temporal arthritis can include sudden pain which usually occurs around the temple area of the head. Many report that even grooming their hair can cause pain. This is a sign that the blood vessels are swollen. You may also run a low fever if you have temporal arthritis. Vision problems can occur when you have temporal arthritis--including blurred vision, double vision or a loss of vision in one eye. Some individuals report that they experience pain when talking or chewing. Other symptoms of temporal arthritis can also include shaking, sweating, weight loss, tiredness, and loss of appetite. You may also become anemic and have joint stiffness.

If you experience any of these symptoms, you should immediately see a doctor. Your doctor will order blood tests and a biopsy. The biopsy involves taking a small piece of the inflamed artery to view for abnormal cells. This is necessary for a diagnosis of temporal arthritis. You should not put off contacting your doctor out of fear. Temporal arthritis that is left untreated can lead to blindness.

You Can Exercise With Arthritis

When a person is diagnosed with arthritis, exercise is usually the last thing on their mind. It may be difficult to walk through the grocery store, write a letter or stand on your feet. Many people assume that all exercise should be avoided. This is not true. In fact, with many forms of the disease, arthritis exercise is encouraged. If you only have mild joint damage, arthritis exercise can greatly improve your condition. Stretching and strengthening muscles should be the goals of an exercise regimen, and you should avoid any exercise which is high impact. You should discuss with your doctor the extent of your arthritis and what arthritis exercise is right for you.

If you have arthritis, you should avoid jogging, playing tennis and other forms of exercise which put sudden pressure on your joints. These activities will only cause you pain and they will most likely cause swelling and inflammation. Exercise should benefit you, not make your arthritis worse.

If you have severe joint damage, you should probably avoid any form of exercise which adds stress to your joints. Swimming is a great form of arthritis exercise. The weightlessness of water does not stress the joints and it gives you the cardiovascular workout which your body needs to stay healthy. Walking can also be beneficial if the proper shoes are worn and you stay at a comfortable pace.

If your arthritis is to the point where you are unable to exercise, your doctor may have you enroll in therapy. Here you can learn ways you can use your body without inflicting harm on your joints. It is essential that you still exercise your body to keep your muscles strong and toned.

You should do everything within your power to stay as physically active as possible. However, you should always take your arthritis condition into perspective and never stress your joints. Your arthritis symptoms may come and go. If you have been having a relatively pain free episode, this does not mean you should do high impact activities. You should always stick with the arthritis exercise program you and your doctor agreed upon.

Arthritis Medication

But, believers tell quite a different story. There are hundreds of remedies and products that are consumed yearly by those suffering from one or more of the 100 different varieties today. Books and recipes with natural cures for arthritis sell well and are making the industry a profitable one. But, when the facts are investigated and the bottom dollar of profit set aside, there truly are benefits to developing this disease, or any other disease, from a natural perspective.

If you do have temporal arthritis, your doctor will prescribe a corticosteroid drug. This will help reduce inflammation. This is important because the inflammation of the arteries is what can lead to blindness. Prednisone can be a wonderful anti-inflammatory medication for someone with temporal arthritis. Cortisone is the hormone which is produced by the adrenal glands, prednisone resembles cortisone and reduces the inflammation and pain of temporal arthritis. Many individuals only have to take prednisone for a few years. Others may have to continue taking prednisone for their entire life to keep temporal arthritis under control.

Perhaps the fuss surrounding this and other medical conditions has something to do with the fact that alternative medical treatments continue to gain in popularity as more and more side effects or long term damage is done by potent prescription drugs or foreign chemicals that are put into the body. More people than ever seek alternative procedures or natural arthritis treatments for their aches and pains, trying to find the least invasive treatment plan possible.

This can range from vitamin supplements to hypnosis. Also included in the natural cures for this arena are: acupuncture, biofeedback, and massage therapies. This article will discuss diet and supplements that have helped those who have one or more forms with pain and stiffness. It should be noted, however, that some supplements can interfere with prescription drug therapies and some ingredients can cause additional problems when taken with certain prescription drugs. Before embarking on any arthritic regimen, speak with a doctor about any risks involved and be clear about any supplements taken. Organic or natural products are supposed to help the body, but never hurt it.

As with anything, guidelines are good to know and imperative to follow when using any new product.

It should also be said that dietary supplements are not overseen or approved by the National Food and Drug Administration, here in the U.S. The manufacturers are responsible for ensuring that their products meet safety standards expected by their customers and consumers. Dietary supplements are made to add vitamins or healthy sources of nutrients to diets lacking the variety that naturally gives the body the nutrients it needs to perform to maximum possibilities. New and exciting natural arthritis treatments include vitamin C in the form of oranges or orange juice and greet teas. There has been research with each that proves some improvement for sufferers. In other countries such as China, India, and Japan, green tea is thought to be a health agent with the power to prevent or cure certain illnesses. Seemingly, rheumatoid arthritis in these countries exists at a much lower rate than in the United States or other countries in the world. Countries that consumer more green tea, have less diagnosis. There are also studies in mice that show improvement in swelling and inflammation, when given green teas.

Drinking at least one glass of freshly squeezed orange juice every day can help with some symptoms. Natural cures for arthritis, or at least a pain management system seems to be in certain forms of fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables that contain Beta-cryptoxanthin are not only contributors to healthy bones and skin, but are thought to help with the immune system which is directly involved with Rheumatoid arthritis. Apricots, Cantaloupe, Grapefruit, Butternut squash, carrots, pumpkin, and sweet potatoes are among the yellow or orange fruits and vegetables that are rich in -Vitamin A and Beta-cryptoxanthin, some of the natural arthritis treatments.

Getting a healthy diet and plenty of exercise will help the body fight against illness and various diseases. A healthy diet and exercise are not harmful, unless a doctor specifically warns against certain exercises and foods. Certain types of this disease are not curable, and other forms can be life-long challenges as well. But, when we give the body the nutrients it needs to perform at its best, we are doing ourselves a great favor! Taking care of the bodies God graciously gave each person is a way to glorify what He has done for us and creates a better self-image that will enable most people to perform as better Christians.

Studies have also showed that those who carry extra weight are more at risk. Extra weight can wear and tear on the joints and surrounding ligaments. Weight loss can be considered one of the natural cures for arthritis, as the joints effected get relief when there is less weight and stress placed upon them daily. There might be natural cures for arthritis that meets with the body's needs for healing. Again, be sure and check with a doctor before taking large doses of any supplement, or when using a program with prescription arthritic drugs.

Tips On How To Relieve Your Arthritis Pain

If a person experiences muscle pain and it continues for more than two to three days, there is a strong chance that he or she is suffering from arthritis. This chronic disease is a very common disorder, one that affects lots of people all around the world. The major symptom of arthritis is pain in the bone joints, but some arthritis sufferers may also feel pain in certain organs in the body.

The term Arthritis is actually a Latin word that means inflammation of joints. Arthritis causes inflammation of the joints due to damage to the cartilage. Patients suffering from arthritis could suffer from long-term joint damage, which could ultimately lead to disability from severe arthritis pain. Arthritic patients commonly feel pain in the early morning hours that slowly subsides as the day progresses.

There are more than 100 types of arthritis. Without a thorough examination the doctor will not be able to find which type of arthritis you are suffering from. Arthritis can stem from injuries and strains caused by sports, repetitive motion, overexertion etc. Arthritic diseases include rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis, which are autoimmune diseases; septic arthritis, caused by joint infection; and the more common osteoarthritis, or degenerative joint disease that largely affects older people.

Researchers have discovered that a diet including too many calories can actually aggravate RA, while 5% of sufferers in another study showed a flare-up of symptoms after drinking milk. A reduction of fat, dairy and red meat was shown to relieve pain. In 1998, Finnish researchers found that the addition of lactobacillus improved symptoms of RA. This was supported by animal experiments, where mice given lactobacillus were found to be less likely to develop the disease and their immune systems were more able to cope with it if they did.

There are three stages of arthritis:

The first stage of arthritis is swelling. The second stage is rapid division and growth of the cells. In the third stage the cells release specific enzymes, which erode the bone, causing the joint to lose its shape. It is then the arthritis pain becomes unbearable. Since this is a systemic disease, it can migrate and affect other body organs. So it is better to detect arthritis at its early stage before it spreads to other parts of the body. Arthritis can be treated with proper therapy and medication.

Treatment: Arthritis treatment includes medicine, exercise, thermal modalities, joint protection and surgery.

Medicine: there are several effective arthritis medications available in the market for proper arthritis treatment. Anti-inflammatory drugs are helpful in most cases. However you should consult a doctor before buying any medicine.

Exercise: this helps strengthen muscles and joints plus increases blood circulation in those areas. Yoga is very therapeutic in reducing arthritis pain.

Rest: rest provides good arthritis relief, as proper rest helps the body to conserve energy and allows the body to heal and reduce pain.

Thermal modalities: cold and heat compresses give short-term relief to stiffness and pain.Joint protection: this allows the patient to move with minimal stress to the joints. Joint protections like knee supports, back belts are common arthritis relief products widely available on the market today.

Symptoms Rheumatoid Arthritis & Foods Help Preventing

I did a lot of searching online, and it was clear that there is plenty of related information, but there is little directly about symptoms rheumatoid arthritis. I hope the following will be interesting to you.

Signs of arthritis rheumatism, spinal arthritis, gout arthritis, and/or arthritis in the feet for example can remain hidden for decades. By the time arthritis x-rays reveal signs of arthritis, the arthritis has already advanced. Patients with spinal arthritis, cervical arthritis, shoulder arthritis, and/or psoriatic arthritis for instance are often unaware that they even have arthritis.

Arthritis diagnosis includes the possibility that a person may have multiple forms of arthritis such as: cervical arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, arthritis in hands, and/or lupus arthritis. Proper arthritis treatment of an arthritis diagnosis, arthritis symptoms, and/or signs of arthritis depend on a correct arthritis diagnosis of the specific disease.

Foods To Help Arthritis

Does eating certain foods help to cure arthritis? Conversely, is the elimination of certain foods any help in controlling this debilitating and painful disease? With over 100 different forms of arthritis and not a lot of research into its causes and cures, the debate rages on.

Because the symptoms of arthritis often seem to come and go without warning it's hard to tell whether any sudden relief was due to a new diet or not. It is important for the sufferer to be able to choose a new treatment because it makes him feel to some degree in control of his life and also gives hope, an important consideration.

One thing to remember when following any diet is that the nutrients lost through the elimination of any foods must be replaced by other means. Certain foods or food groups often seem to cause a worsening of arthritis symptoms. In this case, an elimination diet could be helpful. All suspected foods must be completely eliminated from the diet for several weeks, then reinstated one at a time over a period of several days. If the symptoms of pain and inflammation re-occur after each food is eaten again, then it could be a culprit. This should be done at least three times to determine that there were no other factors involved. If an elimination diet is followed, it is wise to keep two diaries. One of the food eaten and at what times and dates, the other of the dates and times of pain flare-ups. When the two are compared, it will be plain to see what was eaten that could have caused pain. Some of the food groups that are suspected of causing pain are the nightshade group ie, white potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant and bell peppers. Others are red meat, lemons, grapefruit, corn, wheat, rye and milk, eggs coffee, sugar and cheese.

One of the main studies done way back in the 1950's has shown that fish oil has a very beneficial affect on arthritis pain. Fish oil supplements are widely taken, but in some cases cause unwelcome side effects like a fishy after-taste, gas and an upset stomach. Some researchers recommend simply adding omega 3's to the diet by eating cold-water fish like mackerel, herring, tuna, salmon, anchovies, bluefish and mullet.

Healthy Cures Using Tangerines

Another study, researched and supported by the University of Manchester, discovered that people with high levels of beta-cryptoxanthin were 40% less likely to develop arthritis. This is classed as a pro-vitamin A carotenoid which can be found in all yellow or orange- fleshed fruits and vegetables. It enhances bone, skin and immune health. Pumpkin, winter squash and peppers are the vegetables with the highest levels of beta-cryptoxanthin, while tangerines, persimmons and papayas are the fruits with the highest levels.

Do The Arthritis Drugs Celebrex and Vioxx Cause Heart Attacks?

Why do we ingest poisons to strengthen our body?

A Canadian class-action lawsuit has been launched against Pfizer Inc. alleging that its arthritis drug Celebrex caused cardiovascular side effects, the law firm launching the suit said Friday."Merchant Law Group included Pfizer's Bextra in its suit and also named Boehringer Ingelheim, Germany's largest pharmaceutical firm, for its Mobicox, in the same class of drugs. So why do we put these pills into our body? Why do we continue to take the pills until they are proven horribly awful for our health, and then we take the next, newest pill?Is it possible that the solutions to our health issues may go beyond the answers that are available in a simple bottle?

Isn't our body supposed to be nature's ultimate machine?

Aren't we supposed to have the power to overcome every illness?

Our immune system consumes thousands of deadly cancer cells every day and our intelligent nervous system eloquently processes trillions of internal activities per microsecond.

Aren't we the masters of our domain, and the creators of our own destiny?

Then why can't we defeat simple joint and muscle pain on our own, without powerful and dangerous pills?

The answer is simple: we can. We can overcome the same pains and the same health issues that we instead revert to consuming toxic pills for every day to combat: we simply have to discover the natural source of our redemption.

A pure body is what will create pure health. Creating a pure body is an art form. At the centre of the art are simple exercises that balance and flex the incredible body we live in to reduce internal physical blockages to the efficiency of our incredible internal machine. On top of this are key healing arts and dieting strategies that will convert even the sickest body, even the body close to death, into a pure and healthy body.

Both Yoga, Pilates, and other health programs touch on the balancing and flexing exercises that can eliminate arthritis and wipe out its pain: blending the most powerful of these stretches into an effective home routine, a routine that can be accomplished in only moments every day.

The choice in regards to your health is the same as every choice in life. Every choice you make in life will either give you power or take power away from you.
