Vitamin K, An Arthritis Preventative Home Remedy

Most all of us will have to deal with arthritis joint pain - joint inflammation and deterioration of cartilage - at some time. Arthritis occurs in the knees, elbow, fingers, and any where there is a bone joint. Where it occurs in your body will be determined by genetics, diet, and repetitive use of the joint.

Vitamin k also gives blood the ability to form blood clots, which prevent us from bleeding to death whenever we cut ourselves.

As with most illness or body conditions there is always a home remedy that can help reduce, eliminate or even cure the condition. There are many natural cures for arthritis and many home remedies.

Here is one natural substance that reduces the severity of arthritis and provides a more natural balance and function of bone and chemicals at the bone joint - vitamin k.

So what does all of this mean? When you are deficient in vitamin k you are more susceptible to bone and cartilage degeneration and abnormities. As you age and start to have arthritis and you are deficient in vitamin k your arthritis will be more severe.

Here's how to get more vitamin k in your diet. You can take vitamin k supplement in doses of 5 to 15 mg daily. Look for plant based vitamin k1 and k2 since these have no toxicity associated with them. Avoid using K3 which is the synthetic form, which can cause liver toxicity.

For those of you that are using blood thinning medication, coumadin, it best not to use vitamin k supplements. In some cases doctors also recommend not eating those foods that are high in vitamin-k. But if you not taking blood thinning medication and have no major cardiovascular conditions then supplementing with vitamin k should not be a problem.

Here are some foods that you should be eating daily to get natural organic vitamin k:

Dark green leafy vegetables of all kinds, chestnut leaves, spinach leaves, kale, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, endive, olive oil, avocados, meat, egg yolk, cheese, yogurt.

Start eating more dark green vegetables and add a small amount of vitamin k to your daily diet. This will help you offset the degradation of you bone joints and reduce the severity of arthritis as you use your joints more and more.

Use MSM to Reduce Arthritis Inflammation

In other articles, I mentioned two nutrients that can you should take daily - serrapeptase and fatty acids, to fight the unseen inflammation that goes on everyday in your body. It is this unchecked inflammation that leads to those illnesses that you are so familiar with in people over 50 and even younger.

This nutrient is used by every body cell and is considered an anti-aging supplement because it will keep you young inside and out.

Here is one more nutrient that doesn't get much press and yet is one of the most needed nutrients that everyone should be using regularly.

This nutrient is call MSM, methylsulfonylmethane, and is a natural occurring compound found in small amounts in many of the foods you eat. It contains about 35% organic sulfur that is absorbed by your body.

When MSM is embedded in your cell membranes, it keeps that structure flexible and prevents it from becoming hard and dry. This allows nutrients to go into the cells and wastes and toxins to come out. Wastes that do not totally come out of your cells causes inflammation.

MSM supplements has many benefits for the body that come from the sulfur it provides and also by the "Methyl" compounds that it has attached to it.

MSM supplements provide the body with,

Nerve blockage
Analgesic effects
Increase blood circulation
Anti-inflammatory action
Softening of collagen
Reduces scar tissue
Reduces muscle spasms

The Methyl groups play an important part in making sure that Homocysteine is converted to methionine. This is important chemical conversion, since excess Homocysteine has been discovered to lead to arteriosclerosis, an inflammatory condition, Alzheimer's, and rheumatoid arthritis, another inflammatory condition.

Here's how to use MSM supplements.

For serious inflammatory conditions use 6000 - 10,000 mg. When I use up to 10,000 mg, I find that I have around 4 bowel movements per day. So if you have loose bowel movements, you can back off a little. For daily maintenance of inflammation in your body use 2000 mg.You can take these with or without food. If you have a sensitive stomach, take MSM after your meal. Some people experience stomach upsets when not taken with food.

Some side effects have been observed in people that are taking pain killers like aspirin, heparin, dicumerol.

MSM supplements can be purchased in 1000 mg torpedo size. It's a nice small size, allowing you to easily swallow them and quickly take 2000 mg by taking two torpedoes.

The Demon Of Arthritis

Arthritis is a very common health complaint of older Americans, and older people worldwide.

The term Arthritis actually refers to over 100 diseases, but the most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis.

Nearly one in three of every older adults have some form of arthritis, and for some this is simply a health complaint, and more serious health problem than for others.

While inflammation is a normal and healthy response to any kind of injury.

Arthritis is usually caused by some kind of joint inflammation.

Arthritis is inflammation in the joints or area surrounding the joints, that often comes from normal, long term, "wear and tear" and is often painful and is sometimes stiff and achy.

As we age, the cartilage that is between the bones to cushion them wears away. This is a normal part of healthy aging, and there isn't a lot that can be done about it. The bones rub together, and that causes inflammation. The most common places for arthritis are the hands, knees, hips and spine.

The symptoms of arthritis as a health issue are pain, swelling, tenderness, stiffness, redness and warmth in the affected area or joint.

Age is the most common factor for arthritis. While women get arthritis much more often than men, it is older women are more at risk than older men. Women have lower bone density and age, as well as menopause decrease bone density even more, placing them at risk for the disease.

Also those that are obese and those in certain types of work that often use repetitive motions or a lot of physical activity, especially arthritis in or around their knees.

Whether or not a person gets arthritis as a health problem in old age also seems to depend on genetics, and lifestyle choices, too.

Arthritis is treated in a variety of ways, and it is best treatment begins with consulting a doctor when a person suspects they have the health issue of arthritis, so that more serious arthritis health problems can be ruled out.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatment

Arthritis is a condition characterized by joint inflammation. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disease that leads to inflamed and stiff joints. It is the joint that holds together two bones. The joints contain soft tissues and cartilages that help to hold the bones together and materialize smooth movement. Rheumatoid arthritis results when the white blood cells in the immune system destroy the good cells in the body instead of foreign body. Gradually, the affected cells release fluids that damage the tissues and cells in the joints. In acute stages, some organs like the spleen and liver also gets affected. The rheumatoid-infected person can suffer from fever, low blood count, weight loss, dry eyes and mouth, and of course inflammation at joints and other parts of the body. As time passes, the movement of the joints becomes simply painful.

Though the exact cause of the disease has not yet been traced, the common symptoms are inflammation, stiffness, and swollen joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease that cannot be completely cured; it can only be kept under control by reducing pain and inflammation and slowing the bone damage. Hence, treatment for rheumatoid arthritis concentrates on helping a patient to cope and to live with the disease.

Normally, the recommended treatment involves encouraging physical activities. The person suffering from rheumatoid arthritis has to exercise his or her joints to avoid complete stiffening and disability. Also, one needs to take proper rest to reduce the inflammation of joints. In some cases, the individual uses devices called splints to reduce pain and to carry out daily activities independently. For instance, with the use of splint, one can rise from bed or get up from a chair without taking help from another person.

The doctors can administer various drugs or medicines such as analgesics or anti-rheumatic drugs. These help to reduce pain and control inflammation of joints. In very severe or extreme cases, surgery is recommended, provided the patient can pay the cost. This helps to replace the damaged part with an artificial “body-friendly” metal or plastic. For instance, in surface hip-replacement surgery, the whole socket of the hip is replaced with a metal hip. Similarly, there is tendon-replacement surgery to replace a damaged tendon or a tissue connecting muscle to bone. One of the surgeries practiced less frequently is the removal of synovial tissues that cases the bones in the joint.

Rheumatoid arthritis cannot be prevented nor cured. The only solution is to live with the disease and undergo routine check-ups, exercise, and follow a nutritious diet.

Arthritis

Arthritis is a painful disease of the joints that can affect a person’s fingers, elbows, knees, and ankles - as well as the various internal organs of the body. Besides feeling acute pain the patient may have swelling and stiffness also. In fact the pain is so acute at times that movement too becomes restricted; a person may find it almost impossible to make any movement at all. Sometimes, a person with arthritis may find it difficult to even bathe, walk, dress or even stand properly.

There are numerous forms of arthritis and millions of people the world over are afflicted with the malady. In terms of number of cases, arthritis is second only to heart disease. Whatever the type of arthritis, the common symptom is persistent pain. Arthritis like quite a number of other diseases has no definite; the result is that no cure of the disease has been found. Generally speaking, a person may have inherited the disease from the parents or may have contracted it due to a particular life style also.

If you are unfortunate enough to suffer form joint pains for more than a fortnight or so, you must not ignore it or try to cure it yourself by buying over-the-counter medicines. The best course therefore is to immediately consult your doctor to have your problem diagnosed and go by his advice. If you suffer from arthritis, ask your doctor its type. This alone can ensure the right treatment of the disease. Although there is nothing you can do to completely eradicate it, still you can manage to reduce the severity of the pain and manage to live more comfortably than many others. It is therefore in your best interest to take arthritis seriously in the beginning of the disease and take the treatment in earnest.

There is however a ray of hope for people suffering from arthritis. Practicing Yoga, the Oriental system of exercises discovered by the sages hundreds of years ago, can certainly go a long way in mitigating the pain and in some cases completely alleviating it.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Causes

Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disease that can result in stiff joints that are deformed with loss of movement. This condition can affect anyone, any age, at any joint. What is the exact cause of rheumatoid arthritis? The question still remains unanswered. There are several identified causes; it may, therefore, be a combined action of various factors.

Rheumatoid arthritis is often called as an autoimmune disease. It is a disease where the anti-bodies, or the white blood cells, attack the tissue or the specialized cells that make the human body. The anti-bodies in the blood normally fight the entry of any body that is foreign. But the disease causes them to attack and damage the body’s own tissues by “mistake”. In fact, it is the rheumatoid factor in blood that directs the anti-bodies. When the rheumatoid content increases, it causes a malfunction in the immune system. But strangely, research has proven that not all cases of inflammation of the joint or rheumatoid arthritis arises from increased rheumatoid factor in blood. It has also been said that rheumatoid arthritis can be caused by some infection of the immune system (for example, virus) though there are no tested proofs.

Interestingly, rheumatoid arthritis seems to affect women more than men. Research is still ongoing to identify a correlation of female hormones and the cause of rheumatoid arthritis. It has also been found that even though the rheumatoid factors get reduced in the blood of a pregnant woman, she may still have rheumatoid arthritis after the birth of the baby.

Rheumatoid arthritis may be a genetic disorder, meaning that there is the presence of a defective gene in the genetic make up of a person. Some studies have also pointed out environmental factors such as extreme cold weather as leading to rheumatoid arthritis symptoms.

Although there may be numerous causes for rheumatoid arthritis, the symptoms are the same. That is, the person may have inflammation, stiffness, and tenderness of joints that reduce free movement. In a later stage, rheumatoid arthritis affects other organs too. The only way to reduce the chances of having rheumatoid arthritis is by proper exercise and a diet supplemented with vitamins and minerals to sustain healthy bones and a healthy body.

Degenerative Arthritis

Degenerative arthritis is another term for osteoarthritis and refers to a type of arthritis that most commonly affects those that are older. For the most part, degenerative arthritis is simply a progressive wearing away of the protective lining found within joints.

There has been recent activity in testing vitamin k for the prevention of arthritis and for reducing the severity of bone degeneration. In her studies, Tuhina Neogi, of Boston University School of Medicine found that low levels of vitamin k in individual activated bone and cartilage deterioration. And, those found with low vitamin k also had more severe arthritis.

Over time, the cartilage and other lining components are worn down. When this occurs, the joints are not lubricated or move easily. This causes pain. When the bone or cartilage within joints rubs against itself, this can cause extremely intense pain, as well as stiffness and decreased mobility.Degenerative arthritis is the most common form of arthritis, affecting nearly twenty-one million people in the United States. Osteoarthritis is responsible for roughly twenty-five percent of the primary care physician visits in the United States. The statistics see to be about the same for Canada and most of Western Europe.

Is has been estimated that about eighty percent of the population will have radiographic evidence of osteoarthritis by the time they reach the age of sixty-five. This certainly explains why we tend to think of elderly people as necessarily having some type of arthritis. Though only about sixty percent of these patients will be symptomatic, this certainly is a rather large number of people. It is estimated that twenty-five percent of visits to primary care physicians, and about half of all non-steroidal and anti- inflammatory drug prescriptions are caused by those seeking relief from their osteoarthritis. Now that's a lot of doctor visits.

The primary symptom of degenerative arthritis is chronic pain which itself causes loss of mobility and very often includes stiffness. The pain involved with osteoarthritis is generally described as a burning sensation or a sharp ache found in the associate tendons and muscles near the affected joint.Degenerative arthritis is usually treated with some type of anti-inflammatory, either prescription or over the counter. Over the counter medications to help relieve the pain and swelling of degenerative arthritis include Naproxen. Those that are not happy with the results of taking over the counter anti-inflammatory drugs for their degenerative arthritis may have much better luck alternating two of the most popular pain relievers.

If you have not noticed marked decrease in pain or swelling using one over the counter pain medication, try alternating between two every regular dosing period. For example, every four hours alternate between ibuprofen and acetaminophen (aspirin). Both ibuprofen and aspirin have specific attributes that can be combined when taken alternately.Aspirin aids pain and swelling by thinning the blood as well as interacting with neurological pain receptors. Ibuprofen works in somewhat different ways to accomplish much of the same effects. Yet together, many people find that swelling and tension untouched by one or the other magically disappear when a combination of pain relievers is used.Degenerative arthritis can also benefit from a nice soak in a very warm bath. Adding Epsom salts or eucalyptus essential oil can make a warm bath that much more enjoyable and soothing.
