Most all of us will have to deal with arthritis joint pain - joint inflammation and deterioration of cartilage - at some time. So what does all of this mean? When you are deficient in vitamin k you are more susceptible to bone and cartilage degeneration and abnormities. As you age and start to have arthritis and you are deficient in vitamin k your arthritis will be more severe.


Here's how to get more vitamin k in your diet. You can take vitamin k supplement in doses of 5 to 15 mg daily. Look for plant based vitamin k1 and k2 since these have no toxicity associated with them. Avoid using K3 which is the synthetic form, which can cause liver toxicity.


For those of you that are using blood thinning medication, coumadin, it best not to use vitamin k supplements. In some cases doctors also recommend not eating those foods that are high in vitamin-k. But if you not taking blood thinning medication and have no major cardiovascular conditions then supplementing with vitamin k should not be a problem.


Here are some foods that you should be eating daily to get natural organic vitamin k:

Dark green leafy vegetables of all kinds, chestnut leaves, spinach leaves, kale, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, endive, olive oil, avocados, meat, egg yolk, cheese, yogurt.

Start eating more dark green vegetables and add a small amount of vitamin k to your daily diet. This will help you offset the degradation of you bone joints and reduce the severity of arthritis as you use your joints more and more.

Arthritis is a condition characterized by joint inflammation. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disease that leads to inflamed and stiff joints. It is the joint that holds together two bones. The joints contain soft tissues and cartilages that help to hold the bones together and materialize smooth movement. Rheumatoid arthritis results when the white blood cells in the immune system destroy the good cells in the body instead of foreign body. Gradually, the affected cells release fluids that damage the tissues and cells in the joints. In acute stages, some organs like the spleen and liver also gets affected. The rheumatoid-infected person can suffer from fever, low blood count, weight loss, dry eyes and mouth, and of course inflammation at joints and other parts of the body. As time passes, the movement of the joints becomes simply painful.


Though the exact cause of the disease has not yet been traced, the common symptoms are inflammation, stiffness, and swollen joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease that cannot be completely cured; it can only be kept under control by reducing pain and inflammation and slowing the bone damage. Normally, the recommended treatment involves encouraging physical activities. It has also been found that even though the rheumatoid factors get reduced in the blood of a pregnant woman, she may still have rheumatoid arthritis after the birth of the baby.


Rheumatoid arthritis may be a genetic disorder, meaning that there is the presence of a defective gene in the genetic make up of a person. Some studies have also pointed out environmental factors such as extreme cold weather as leading to rheumatoid arthritis symptoms.


Although there may be numerous causes for rheumatoid arthritis, the symptoms are the same. That is, the person may have inflammation, stiffness, and tenderness of joints that reduce free movement. In a later stage, rheumatoid arthritis affects other organs too. The only way to reduce the chances of having rheumatoid arthritis is by proper exercise and a diet supplemented with vitamins and minerals to sustain healthy bones and a healthy body.

Degenerative Arthritis

Degenerative arthritis is another term for osteoarthritis and refers to a type of arthritis that most commonly affects those that are older. For the most part, degenerative arthritis is simply a progressive wearing away of the protective lining found within joints.

Osteoarthritis is responsible for roughly twenty-five percent of the primary care physician visits in the United States. Over the counter medications to help relieve the pain and swelling of degenerative arthritis include Naproxen.Those that are not happy with the results of taking over the counter anti-inflammatory drugs for their degenerative arthritis may have much better luck alternating two of the most popular pain relievers.


If you have not noticed marked decrease in pain or swelling using one over the counter pain medication, try alternating between two every regular dosing period. For example, every four hours alternate between ibuprofen and acetaminophen (aspirin). Both ibuprofen and aspirin have specific attributes that can be combined when taken alternately.Aspirin aids pain and swelling by thinning the blood as well as interacting with neurological pain receptors. Ibuprofen works in somewhat different ways to accomplish much of the same effects. Yet together, many people find that swelling and tension untouched by one or the other magically disappear when a combination of pain relievers is used.Degenerative arthritis can also benefit from a nice soak in a very warm bath.
