Rheumatoid Arthritis Causes

Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disease that can result in stiff joints that are deformed with loss of movement. This condition can affect anyone, any age, at any joint. What is the exact cause of rheumatoid arthritis? The question still remains unanswered. There are several identified causes; it may, therefore, be a combined action of various factors.

Rheumatoid arthritis is often called as an autoimmune disease.

It is a disease where the anti-bodies, or the white blood cells, attack the tissue or the specialized cells that make the human body. The anti-bodies in the blood normally fight the entry of any body that is foreign. But the disease causes them to attack and damage the body's own tissues by "mistake". In fact, it is the rheumatoid factor in blood that directs the anti-bodies. When the rheumatoid content increases, it causes a malfunction in the immune system. But strangely, research has proven that not all cases of inflammation of the joint or rheumatoid arthritis arises from increased rheumatoid factor in blood. It has also been said that rheumatoid arthritis can be caused by some infection of the immune system (for example, virus) though there are no tested proofs.

Interestingly, rheumatoid arthritis seems to affect women more than men. Research is still ongoing to identify a correlation of female hormones and the cause of rheumatoid arthritis. It has also been found that even though the rheumatoid factors get reduced in the blood of a pregnant woman, she may still have rheumatoid arthritis after the birth of the baby.

Rheumatoid arthritis may be a genetic disorder, meaning that there is the presence of a defective gene in the genetic make up of a person. Some studies have also pointed out environmental factors such as extreme cold weather as leading to rheumatoid arthritis symptoms.

Although there may be numerous causes for rheumatoid arthritis, the symptoms are the same. That is, the person may have inflammation, stiffness, and tenderness of joints that reduce free movement. In a later stage, rheumatoid arthritis affects other organs too. The only way to reduce the chances of having rheumatoid arthritis is by proper exercise and a diet supplemented with vitamins and minerals to sustain healthy bones and a healthy body.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis, or RA, is a chronic inflammatory disease of the joints that gradually reduces and disables joint movements. It is also known to affect an individual symmetrically. For instance, pain and inflammation of knee joints will appear together in the left and right leg.

A human body is a very complicated system. It is made up of very small functional units called as cells. Theses cells organize into various body parts to perform various activities, whether it is the joints in the hands or the blood circulation. They are also involved in the human immune system. The blood maintains the immune system of the body through its white blood cells, which are anti-bodies. They function towards fighting the foreign bodies or "invaders" that cause infection in the human body. Sometimes the antibodies, known for its immune services, "mistakenly" attack the "good tissues" in the body. The body reacts to the condition and as a defense mechanism causes the attacked area to inflame. One such chronic, autoimmune disease is the rheumatoid arthritis. It is a severe form of ailment caused by the inflammation of the joints or where two bones meet.

While in a normal case of arthritis the patient complains of just inflammation of joints, rheumatoid arthritis damages and deforms the joint, disabling its functions, especially its ability to move. RA leaves the inflamed joints swollen, stiff, and painful. In severe cases of RA, the soft tissues holding the muscle to bone, the tendons, ligaments, and fascia become affected. RA, in fact, damages the cartilages or the soft, flexible tissues causing movement of the bones, too. Rheumatoid arthritis can even extend to organs such as the spleen and liver in the body if deprived of proper health treatment. At such a stage, a person will face other problems such as low blood count, weight loss, fever, and dryness in the eyes and mouth.

Rheumatoid arthritis can affect anyone, at any age, although, it is found more commonly in women than men. Another point to be noted is that the cause of RA need not always be genetic factors. This disease, to date, is not known to have a permanent cure. In some cases of RA, the disease remains dormant for a long period and attacks again. This is also known as a flare-up. Medical treatment, along with proper diet and exercise regime, would definitely help one to cope with rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid Arthritis provides detailed information on Rheumatoid Arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms, Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatments and more. Rheumatoid Arthritis is affliated with Arthritis Pain.

Juvenille Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease that attacks the joints in the body, causing inflammation and pain. It can affect anyone at any age. Children are no exception to rheumatoid arthritis. In children, this chronic disease is called as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and it also causes inflamed and stiff joints.

RA begins with inflammation of joints, mainly the inner lining known as the synovial tissue. Synovial tissues are the case that holds the bones in the joint. The case contains synovial fluid, which greases the cartilages in between to help smooth movement. When the anti-bodies attack the synovial tissues, the area inflames and the joints develop pain, swell, and become rigid. Gradually, the synovial lining thickens. As the condition deteriorates, it releases fluids or enzymes that destroy cartilages and bones, reducing flexibility and leaving the joints deformed. Over a period of time, it becomes difficult to move that joint.

Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis mostly affects children below the age of 16. Unlike the rheumatoid arthritis of adults, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis is a group of several diseases. The only common characteristic of the adult and child rheumatoid arthritis is the "inflammation of joints and pain".

Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis is a collective disease. The three identified forms are pauciarticular, polyarticular and systemic. In pouciarticular juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, a child may suffer from inflammation in few joints such as the knee and shoulder. If it is polyarticular, then many joints get inflamed simultaneously, for example knees, wrists, elbows, and so on. Polyarticular rheumatoid arthritis attacks symmetrically; for example, the joints of the left and right hand become inflammation at the same time.

Unlike pauciarticular and polyarticular, in systemic cases, parts of the body become affected along with the inflammation of some organs. Skin rashes, fever, inflammation of the joints and internal organs such as the spleen and liver may accompany systemic disease.

The cause of the disease is unknown, even in the case of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. The child complaining of joint pain is often examined to confirm for rheumatoid arthritis. The symptoms include difficulty to get up after sitting down, pain in the mornings while waking up--everything that is caused by the stiffness and swelling of the joints. They are also asked for a family history of rheumatoid arthritis. Once the disease is suspected, preliminary tests are conducted to understand the intensity of the disease. On the basis of the test results, the child is given treatment and medication. While some have an easy recovery, others suffer from more complicated symptoms. Sometimes, in some children, the symptoms of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis remain dormant for a period of time. It may suddenly emerge or "flare up" when the child least expects it.

Alternative arthritis pain relief with Painezer

As you are probably aware, arthritis is a disease of the joints. There are two types: osteoarthritis is a "wear and tear" problem of joints, whilst rheumatoid arthritis is an auto-immune destruction of joints and their components. Following concerns over drugs such as Vioxx, many arthritis sufferers are considering alternative arthritis pain relievers to help minimise the side effects of drugs. You may suffer severe pain from arthritis and may be interested in a natural therapy that could help relieve pain without requiring additional medication. Of course, the treatment of your arthritis involves many things. The latest research is showing that diet and exercise also have very important roles in successful management of arthritis pain. It is advisable to take advice from your doctor before making any changes to your exercise regime.

The Painezer is designed to be a complementary treatment to existing medication. It may be a useful added or alternative arthritis pain reliever therapy particularly when joint pain is intense and causing acute disability. Electrical stimulation is also a definite option for sufferers of arthritic pain and has been shown to give immediate relief in many cases. Alan Warburton, CEO of Painezer, has countless testimonials for the Painezer as a successful, alternative method of pain relief. In the UK recently to carry out health research, he brought a number of trial versions of the Painezer with him. Those individuals who had a trial version were so happy with the successful treatment of their arthritis pain, that they were asking for further Painezers for their relatives and friends. What a testimony to their effectiveness in relieving the long term pain of arthritis.

There are several other natural remedies that have been proposed as natural aids in alleviating the symptoms of arthritis pain, but many have not yet been proven to be effective in clinical trials. There are various types of oil and scent therapies that help to relax the body and therefore alleviate arthritic symptoms. Some of these treatments include aromatherapy options available in many different stores and malls.

There's no complicated instructions, batteries or cables. In fact, it's easy to use the Painezer, simply click over the painful joint or joints for 10 or more times at intervals of 1-2 seconds. The Painezer can be put in a handbag or pocket and carried round unobtrusively, ready for use when pain is at it's worst. It even works through your clothing, so is ready for immediate use at all times and in all locations. While there is little research on how newer products such as Painezer can reduce arthritic pain, much research has been done on some of the more well-known forms of electrical stimulation, such as TENS and PENS. One such study states that pulsed electrical stimulation therapy may have benefits for reducing the pain of osteo-arthritis in the knee. Another study looking at the short term effects of TENS (Lewis, et al.), noted that osteo-arthritis sufferers preferred to continue the TENS treatment rather than go back to their original medication. To summarise, individuals who have tried the Painezer to manage their arthritis have been very pleased with the results. This is one alternative pain relief therapy which arthritis sufferers are finding helpful in the battle to minimise their arthritis pain. Natural Remedies For Arthritis

There is no known cure for the pain that arthritis sufferers experience, although it is possible to obtain medicine that may serve to lessen the painful symptoms. Some individuals are beginning to seek alternative sources that are available naturally to lessen the painful symptoms of arthritis, although this by no means should lead to a rejection of a doctor's recommendations when it comes to prescriptions. It is essential to be aware of any potential side effects or reactions that are possible with any medication, including the natural kind.

Some prescriptions incorporate natural remedies themselves, although thes are mostly available outside of the United States. A combination in the oils found in avocadoes and soybeans, for example, has been found to seriously lessen the painful effects of osteoarthritis in recent clinical trials. Unfortunately, no matter how many avocadoes and soybeans you eat, you will not get enough concentrated amounts of their oils to alleviate your pain. The oils must be extracted from the plants and concentrated in medicine in order to be effective.

Acupuncture continues to rise in popularity as a natural treatment for many different conditions, and arthritis relief is one of its many applications. Acupuncture is known to release endorphins and serotonin which relieve pain naturally by using the body's own hormones. As with any treatments, it is essential that if you decide to try acupuncture, you check the background of the therapist to whom you are going- it can be damaging if applied incorrectly, and is also fairly expensive.

Other natural treatments that have broad applications beyond arthritis treatment include methods of focusing a relaxation that take away the concentration off the pain that comes with arthritis. These techniques include yoga and other forms of meditation as well as visualization techniques.

Sometimes, relief comes not just in what you ingest but also in what you avoid ingesting. Many foods can trigger minor allergic reactions which will enhance the pain of arthritis sufferers. Many proponents of natural remedies will stress a limitation on the individual's intake of meat, especially red meat such as beef and pork. Salt, dairy, wheat, and corn are also recommended avoidances for arthritis sufferers.

Some methods of relief that do not include ingesting certain medicines involve the application of substances to the surface of the skin rather than taking in substances. Potato compresses and hot water treatments are often touted as methods of natural arthritis treatments.

Whatever your preferences, it is essential that before discontinuing your medication or starting a new regime of arthritis treatment that involves natural remedies, you consult your physician about possible side effects. Most physicians will be open to the ideas of natural remedies, and it is important to heed their advice when it comes to methods that should be avoided.
