There is a variety of prescribed arthritis medications which health professionals can give to help with rheumatoid arthritis. While these arthritis medications may not cure, they can relieve pain, alleviate symptoms, and even slow the development of rheumatoid arthritis.

Anti-inflammatory non-steroidal drugs can reduce pain and assist with inflammation. These drugs may be used as an arthritis medicine and may be obtained over the counter and in prescription form. Is It Arthritis Making My Bones Ache And Joints Creak?


When asking what arthritis is, one must merely look to the roots of the word, which has Greek origins and literally translates into "Inflamed Joints." As diseases go, arthritis has had a long and prosperous history: Paleontologists have discovered signs of the bone disease in human skeletons that date as far back as 4500 BCE. Arthritis has been discovered in the buried remains of pre-colonial Native Americans as well as in ancient bodies all along Europe. Signs of arthritis have even been discovered in Egyptian mummies.

Despite the thousands of years that arthritis has plagued humanity, it wasn't until about 500 BCE that people discovered a way to relieve the primary symptom of arthritis: pain. Through one method or another, some bright soul discovered that willow bark relieved aches and joint stiffness, and this became the primary reagent in elixirs and potions for centuries. It wasn't until the early 1800's when the scientific community isolated the pain killer Salicin from the tree bark. Unfortunately, salicin by itself irritates the stomach, so it wasn't until 1897, when a dye company called The Bayer Company found a way to use Salicin without it being noxious. The resulting product was trademarked as Aspirin.


Arthritis comes in hundreds of individual forms, as it is a generic word for a specific type of ailment. One of the most common forms of arthritis is called Osteoarthritis (Osteo means "Relating to bones.") This type of arthritis is also referred to as Arhrosis, and in more colloquial terms, "wear-and-tear arthritis." Arthritis, one of the most common disorders that can affect anyone is actually a complex disorder comprising several conditions, all of which sharing one common symptom: arthritis joint pain. While it is true that most forms of arthritis are irreversible (as it is impossible to grow back a cartilage), there are steps that you can take in order to minimize the pain that is usually associated with this debilitating disease.


Protect Your Joints

Although arthritis can strike anyone at any time of their life, most cases of arthritis occurs in people who are older. Aging appears to be a major contributive factor to arthritis joint pains - a fact that is understandable as everyone goes through a considerable amount of wear and tear in their joints as they grow older.


Age also causes toxic waste circulation in the blood, dead cells, and liquid can accumulate in the various joints and cause inflammation and pain. If inflammation continues it can cause damage to your joints. In some cases the cartilage coating on the bone ends, wears down and the joints then rub, bone to bone creating extreme pain.

- Avoid stressing your thumb and fingers by making a tight fist or holding items for too long. You can do this by holding a book, mug, or other things in the palm of your hand, instead of holding them with your fingers. If you've been reading a book for some time, use a book holder instead of continually supporting the book with your fingers.


- Exercise those joints. Freedom of motion is one of the things that you may have to forsake if you suffer from arthritis joint pain. The longer you suffer, the shorter range of movement you will have at your disposal. You can avoid this by moving your joints through their full pain-free range of motion. Do this at least once a day and observe the results.


- Learn to understand arthritis joint pain. Of course, if you have arthritis, it is most likely that you will experience arthritis joint pain. However, try to distinguish between arthritis joint pain and pain that results from overusing a joint. When you are able to do this, you can determine what specific activity that caused you joint pain and avoid doing it in the future.

Vitamin B12 - This vitamin aids in multiple functions. It helps with cell formation, digestion, myelin production, nerve protection.

Vitamin C - This vitamin acts as an anti-inflammatory, relieving pain, and rids the body of free radicals. In addition to reducing inflammation, vitamin C also helps form collagen, the protein "glue" that holds cells together. Collagen is especially important in connective tissue to insure healthy ligaments, cartilage, tendons and the joints themselves.


Vitamin E - This is a strong antioxidant that protects joints from free radicals while increases joint flexibility.

Vitamin K - This vitamin assists with mineral deposit into the bone matrix.


Selenium and Zinc- The antioxidant nutrients such as selenium and zinc might also be effective because of their ability to stop free radical damage to joint linings that in turn causes the accumulation of fluids, swelling and associated pain.Chondroitin - the key structural component in cartilage and plays an important role in the maintenance of joint cartilage.
