The Variety Of Rheumatoid Arthritis Medications

There is a variety of prescribed arthritis medications which health professionals can give to help with rheumatoid arthritis. While these arthritis medications may not cure, they can relieve pain, alleviate symptoms, and even slow the development of rheumatoid arthritis.

Anti-inflammatory non-steroidal drugs can reduce pain and assist with inflammation. These drugs may be used as an arthritis medicine and may be obtained over the counter and in prescription form. (Most people are familiar with aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen sodium.) The only negative aspect of these arthritis medications is they can lead to stomach problems, such as bleeding and indigestion. They can also raise blood pressure in a person and cause susceptibility to fluid retention.

COX-2 inhibitors are a class of Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs which do not cause as much harm to the stomach. This class of arthritis medication functions by suppressing an enzyme called cyclooxygenase which is a factor in inflammation. However, fluid retention and elevated blood pressure may result as side effects of COX-2 inhibitors. Reports are also coming in that people who use this class of drug may be more liable to a stroke or heart attack.

Corticosteroids are arthritis medications which are able to reduce pain and inflammation. They can also moderate the damage to joints caused by rheumatoid arthritis. In fact, numerous arthritis sufferers who take corticosteroids have stated that they feel significantly better. However, after a time the effectiveness of corticosteroids may diminish.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease. Immunosuppressants can be supplied as an arthritis medication to help control the immune system. Without such treatment, the immune system in rheumatoid arthritis patients is not balanced and it is out of control. TNF blockers are sometimes prescribed in combination with an immunosuppressant. TNF blockers operate by blocking the protein which inflames the joints. Those on TNF blockers report reduced pain and less stiffness.

Those diagnosed early with rheumatoid arthritis can be given arthritis medications known as disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs. These drugs slow the progression of rheumatoid arthritis. Thus, if the arthritis is caught early, much damage to the joints can be forestalled.

Learn all about arthritis!

WHAT IS ARTHRITIS?

For most people arthritis pain and inflammation is a normal process as the body ages. In fact, most people over the age of 50 show some signs of this disease. Joints naturally degenerate over time. Arthritis is a term that includes a group of disorders that affect the joints and muscles. Arthritis symptoms include joint pain, inflammation and limited movement of joints. When a joint is inflamed it may be swollen, tender, warm to the touch or red. Surrounding each joint is a protective capsule holding a lubricating fluid to aid in motion. Cartilage, a slippery smooth substance, covers most joints to assure an even, fluid motion of the joint. With joint arthritis, the cartilage may be damaged, narrowed and lost by a degenerative process or by inflammation making movement painful. There are over 100 types of this degenerating process and rheumatic diseases including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia.

There is also the risk of suffering severe side effects such as diabetes, weight gain, and decreased bone density, after long-time use of corticosteroids. It is important to see a doctor at the earliest signs of rheumatoid arthritis. While modern medicine has not been able to find a cure for arthritis, they are making strides in pain relief and slowing down the progression rate of rheumatoid arthritis.

MANAGEMENT OPTIONS Fortunately, arthritis can be managed through a combination of medication, exercise, rest, weight-management, nutrition, and, in some cases, surgery. Arthritis is a chronic disease that will remain for a long time and possibly for the rest of the patient's remaining life. The treatments will probably change over time and medication may be adjusted. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS There are many different signs and symptoms of arthritis. If one experiences pain, stiffness, or swelling around a joint for more than two weeks, then he should visit the physician. Only a physician can determine if this is because of arthritis. These symptoms may come up suddenly or slowly over time and may also include sleeplessness, fatigue, depression, and muscle aches. The doctor will confirm the type of problem and will then prepare the course of treatment.

Celebrex for arthritis pain.

What is Celebrex taken for?

Often prescribed for the relief of joint pain, swelling and stiffness of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, Celebrex is also taken for:

How does Celebrex work to relieve arthritis pain?

Celebrex works to relieve arthritis pain by targeting an enzyme found in the body called COX-2. This enzyme plays a key role in causing both pain and inflammation in your joints. Celebrex is not a cure for arthritis pain and like other medicines it may not work for everyone. If you want the best results be sure to follow your doctor's instructions.

What is arthritis?

The term arthritis means "joint inflammation." Arthritis is a complex disorder that includes more than 100 different conditions and can affect people at any stage of life. The two most common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Osteoarthritis begins with the breakdown of joint cartilage, leading to pain and stiffness and commonly affects the joints of the fingers, knees, hips, and spine. Work-related repetitive injury and physical trauma may contribute to the development of osteoarthritis. For example, if you have a strenuous job that requires repetitive bending, kneeling, or squatting you may be at high risk for osteoarthritis of the knee.

Rheumatoid arthritis can affect numerous joints and, in some cases, other parts of the body, including the blood, the lungs, and the heart. Pain occurs when the joint lining becomes inflammed which can cause stiffness, swelling, warmth and redness. The affected joint may also lose its shape, resulting in loss of normal movement. Rheumatoid arthritis can last a long time and can be a disease of many symptoms and few to no symptoms.

Who should not take Celebrex?

Celebrex should not be used if you:

Does Celebrex have any side effects?

Generally well tolerated, Celebrex has been known to have these side effects:

The chance of serious heart problems, such as heart attacks or strokes may increase while taking Celebrex. Serious skin reactions or stomach and intestine problems, such as bleeding and ulcers, can occur without warning and may cause death.

Is It Arthritis Making My Bones Ache And Joints Creak?

When asking what arthritis is, one must merely look to the roots of the word, which has Greek origins and literally translates into "Inflamed Joints." As diseases go, arthritis has had a long and prosperous history: Paleontologists have discovered signs of the bone disease in human skeletons that date as far back as 4500 BCE. Arthritis has been discovered in the buried remains of pre-colonial Native Americans as well as in ancient bodies all along Europe. Signs of arthritis have even been discovered in Egyptian mummies.

Despite the thousands of years that arthritis has plagued humanity, it wasn't until about 500 BCE that people discovered a way to relieve the primary symptom of arthritis: pain. Through one method or another, some bright soul discovered that willow bark relieved aches and joint stiffness, and this became the primary reagent in elixirs and potions for centuries. It wasn't until the early 1800's when the scientific community isolated the pain killer Salicin from the tree bark. Unfortunately, salicin by itself irritates the stomach, so it wasn't until 1897, when a dye company called The Bayer Company found a way to use Salicin without it being noxious. The resulting product was trademarked as Aspirin.

Arthritis comes in hundreds of individual forms, as it is a generic word for a specific type of ailment. One of the most common forms of arthritis is called Osteoarthritis (Osteo means "Relating to bones.") This type of arthritis is also referred to as Arhrosis, and in more colloquial terms, "wear-and-tear arthritis." A study in 2001 states that over 80% of the U.S. population will show signs of Osteoarthritis by age 65. Osteoarthritis is the natural result of aging, though it can also occur through damage to the joints.Another common form of Arthritis, called rheumatoid arthritis, is actually a disorder of the immune system, where one's body is literally attacking its own joints. This type of arthritis manifests itself in many, sometimes in every joint at once, and causes soft tissues to swell. It is a chronic disorder that, if left unmanaged, can cause deformation of the hands (as the joints in the fingers begin to twist themselves due to swelling), deformation of the neck,

Unlike Osteoarthritis, which is attributable to old age, the cause of rheumatoid arthritis is entirely unknown, though many in the medical field believe it to be infectious. While rheumatoid arthritis can be treated with anti-inflammatories and analgesics, Xenobiotic agents are the only known treatment known to stunt the disease's progressions.Gout is another type of arthritis, and is caused primarily my poor diet, where one consumes too many high purine foods, and not enough vitamin C and vitamin B complex. Gout manifests itself through the swelling of joints on the hands and feet, and often causes a large painful lump to appear on one's big toe.

Arthritis, although it exists in hundreds of forms, always has one common symptom: joint pain and stiffness. With common symptoms come common cures. Canes, walkers, and braces are all simple solutions that take the pressure off of an arthritic joint and help afflicted people move about in relative freedom. Bad arthritic conditions are sometimes treated with corrective surgery. Not all arthritis is chronic and incurable, as its reputation lets on, and it can, nine times out of ten, have its progression slowed through proper diet, exercise, and discretion in one's daily activities.

Arthritis Joint Pain - Getting Help

Arthritis, one of the most common disorders that can affect anyone is actually a complex disorder comprising several conditions, all of which sharing one common symptom: arthritis joint pain. There are over a hundred different types of arthritis joint pain but the most common are osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and gout.

For most patients suffering from arthritis joint pain, living with this kind of condition means a life-long task punctuated with nothing but agony. However, this does not have to be the case with you. While it is true that most forms of arthritis are irreversible (as it is impossible to grow back a cartilage), there are steps that you can take in order to minimize the pain that is usually associated with this debilitating disease.

Protect Your Joints

Although arthritis can strike anyone at any time of their life, most cases of arthritis occurs in people who are older. Aging appears to be a major contributive factor to arthritis joint pains - a fact that is understandable as everyone goes through a considerable amount of wear and tear in their joints as they grow older.

Age also causes toxic waste circulation in the blood, dead cells, and liquid can accumulate in the various joints and cause inflammation and pain. If inflammation continues it can cause damage to your joints. In some cases the cartilage coating on the bone ends, wears down and the joints then rub, bone to bone creating extreme pain.

By using fatty acids which provide lubrication for the joints, the joints will not wear down as much as a result less inflammation and less pain. Some recommend oils are:

- Borage Oil - Primrose Oil - NKO Oil

You will benefit from these oils by feeling less joint stiffness and pain in the morning.

In order to prevent further damage and worse pain, be extra careful as you go about your daily routine. Below are some tips to help you protect your joints, recommend by the Mayo Clinic:

- Save your weaker joints and use the strongest joint instead. For instance, you can carry things with your palm open. That way, you can distribute the weight equally over your forearm. Also, instead of lifting things off the counter or workbench, you can just slide them along the surface.

- Save your little finger. Don't put too much stress on your little finger by moving your hands in such a way as to push the other fingers toward your little finger. Instead, try brushing bread crumbs off the table with the palm facing you and the little finger resting on the table.

- Avoid stressing your thumb and fingers by making a tight fist or holding items for too long. You can do this by holding a book, mug, or other things in the palm of your hand, instead of holding them with your fingers. If you've been reading a book for some time, use a book holder instead of continually supporting the book with your fingers.

- Exercise those joints. Freedom of motion is one of the things that you may have to forsake if you suffer from arthritis joint pain. The longer you suffer, the shorter range of movement you will have at your disposal. You can avoid this by moving your joints through their full pain-free range of motion. Do this at least once a day and observe the results.

- Learn to understand arthritis joint pain. Of course, if you have arthritis, it is most likely that you will experience arthritis joint pain. However, try to distinguish between arthritis joint pain and pain that results from overusing a joint. When you are able to do this, you can determine what specific activity that caused you joint pain and avoid doing it in the future. http://www.healthybodysupplements.com

Managing Arthritis Pain Calcium and Vitamins

Arthritis is a complex disorder that comprises more than 100 distinct conditions and can affect people at any stage of life. Two of the most common forms are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. These two forms have very different causes, risk factors, and effects on the body. The most common symptom in both is persistent joint pain. The joint pain of arthritis can appear as hip pain, knee pain, hand pain, or wrist pain, as well as joint pain in other areas of the body.

For most people arthritis pain and inflammation cannot be avoided as the body ages. Joints naturally degenerate over time. Fortunately, arthritis can be managed through a combination of vitamins, medication, exercise, rest, weight-management, nutrition, and, in some cases, surgery. Arthritis is a chronic disease that will be with you for a long time and possibly for the rest of your life. Your treatments will probably change over time and medication may be adjusted. Having a positive mental outlook and the support of family and friends will help you live with arthritis and be able to continue to perform your daily activities.

Before going any further, it is important that you remember to discuss any and all vitamins and supplements with your doctor before adding anything to your diet. Though it is not common, some vitamins and supplements can have adverse reactions with medications you may already be taking. Do not stop taking any prescribed medications without first talking to your doctor.

As an alternative to getting your RDA through diet, many people now take vitamin supplements. The following list of vitamins are known to be especially beneficial to arthritis sufferers:

Vitamin B5 - When grouped together B vitamins work at their peak, B5 specifically being good for reducing swelling.

Vitamin B3 - This vitamin reduces tissue swelling and dilates small arteries, improved grip strength and joint mobility and increasing blood flow. Note that Vitamin B3 is NOT advised for persons with high blood pressure, gout or sliver disorders.

Vitamin B6 - Another B that reduces tissue swelling. B-6 shrinks the synovial membranes that line the weight-bearing surfaces of the joints. It thus helps to control pain and to restore mobility in the elbows, shoulders, knees and other joints.

Vitamin B12 - This vitamin aids in multiple functions. It helps with cell formation, digestion, myelin production, nerve protection.

Vitamin C - This vitamin acts as an anti-inflammatory, relieving pain, and rids the body of free radicals. In addition to reducing inflammation, vitamin C also helps form collagen, the protein "glue" that holds cells together. Collagen is especially important in connective tissue to insure healthy ligaments, cartilage, tendons and the joints themselves.

Vitamin E - This is a strong antioxidant that protects joints from free radicals while increases joint flexibility.

Vitamin K - This vitamin assists with mineral deposit into the bone matrix.

Selenium and Zinc- The antioxidant nutrients such as selenium and zinc might also be effective because of their ability to stop free radical damage to joint linings that in turn causes the accumulation of fluids, swelling and associated pain.Chondroitin - the key structural component in cartilage and plays an important role in the maintenance of joint cartilage.

These guidelines will help you evaluate supplements to relieve arthritis symptoms. If used under the guidance of your physician, you may find a dietary supplement to compliment your current arthritis therapy regimen. You just need the right information to help you separate potentially useful supplements from the rest.
