5 DIY Anti-Aging Tactics.

(1) Check your attitude!

How do you feel about life? Is your life going the way you want it to? Do you take responsibility for what you have created, good or bad? How about accepting who you are? Be grateful for what you have, family, friends, a job etc. Then do an assessment of the things you want to change, if any. Watch your self-talk, if you wouldn't say those things to others, don't say them to yourself! Be aware of why you want to make any change in your life. It must be something you have committed to, else you will most likely fail and add one more reason to criticize yourself.

 

(2) Know your nutritional needs!

What you eat has a huge impact on how you look and feel. The foods you eat help make and maintain soft, smooth, glowing skin. Wrinkle free skin is important in any anti-aging effort. The recommended daily food requirements are good guidelins, but you must know how to balance your food intake to keep your body performing at its best. At any given age, we might need to boost specific nutrients or hormones. Get regular checkups! Eat fresh fruits and vegetables as snacks, instead of over-processed manufactured "fast foods". Try not to rush your meals. When food is not given enough time to be digested properly, it becomes a burden on your body, causing un-neccessary wear and tear and premature aging!

 

(3) Take timeouts!

When was the last time you had some fun? A good laugh? If you cannot remember, it's been too long! Even if you must laugh at yourself, find something to laugh about. Old photos, old clothes you've kept that you will never wear again, find something, anything. What about pampering? Done anything special for yourself lately? A facial, or manicure? In -home or at a salon, it doesn't really matter. It's the time you spend just focusing on yourself that will make you feel special and cared for. We all need that!

 

(4) Be interested and interesting!

Yes, we are all short on time, we are busy people, but you must make time to be interested in others, your community, the world. You will find that is the only way to be interesting yourself. Learn something new, a language, a new style of cooking or dance. Learn about a culture that's different than your own. Ageless, interesting individuals always seem to want to know more about life. Try not to pry or judge, just be open to sharing opinions and knowledge.

 

(5) Groomimg is ageless!

When did you last update your looks? A new hair style or wardrobe is a very effective anti-aging tactic. Today there are so many flattering styles of dressing, everyone of us can find one that works perfectly for us. Subtle changes in hair coloring can make you look years younger. Lose a few pounds if you need to. There is a diet that will work for you. Find skin care that's right for your skin type. Take care of your nails and teeth.

 

Anti-aging is more a matter of making the most of what you have, than the sporadic and temporary results gained by invasive and expensive surgeries. Agelessness is more about maintenance over the long-term than any qick fixes.

 

Meaningful beauty is not just smooth skin (which is nice) but it is also an outlook on life, your life. Treat yourself and others with respect. Balance your physical, emotional and spiritual life. No one else can or will do it for you! Get rest when you need it, play when you have the opportunity. Antioxidants - Your Best Defense Against Disease and Aging

Studies support the benefits of eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. This is due to their high antioxidant value. Why are antioxidants so important? Because they have a proven track record of fighting free radicals. Your body is being constantly attacked by very harmful substances known as free radicals or oxygen radicals. Free radicals can destroy your cells, tissues and organs.

 

However, looking good on the outside is not where anti-aging starts. How we feel and act comes from the inside. Do we love ourselves unconditionally? We love others this way! Keep some for YOURSELF. Do you take time for yourself, when you need it? Are you grateful for what you currently have, family, friends, a job, a sound mind? Know yourself, then be yourself! Aim for authenticity, not perfection. Own your emotions and take responsiblity for your actions. Learn how and when to say yes or no.

 

Free radicals are highly unstable molecules that are naturally formed inside our bodies by the process of oxidation. They are normal by products of everyday functions like digestion and physical activity. Free radicals also come from outside sources, such as smoking, environmental pollution, and synthetic chemicals that are added to our water and food. We are also all exposed daily to polluted air, ingest oxidized or partially rancid foods, and oxidizing radiations from the sun and various electrical appliances.

 

Free radicals lack one electron making them chemically unstable. To stabilize themselves, they attack any other substance within reach and steel an electron from it. This process creates a new free radical, which repeats the process, producing a "domino effect." When this reaction is uncontrolled, it can generate millions of free radicals within seconds. Fortunately our bodies come equipped with a free radical fighting mechanism. It consists of specialized enzymes that have a "spare" electron that they can give away without turning into free radicals. In order to protect us, the enzymes need help from certain substances known as antioxidants.

 

Another component of aging is the reduction of the telomere chains at the chromosome ends, as each cell division occurs. However, the body has means to repair these ends again, with an enzyme called telomerase. The rapidity of the aging process depends on lack of efficiency in this repair process.

 

The antioxidant value of any food or supplement can be determined by it's ORAC rating. ORAC means Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity. According to the University of Michigan, Comprehensive Cancer Center, the measurement of ORAC is a way to measure how many oxygen radicals a specific food can absorb. The more oxygen radicals a food can absorb, the higher its ORAC score. The higher its score... the more that food or supplement will help you fight diseases like cancer and heart disease. Most experts agree that we should consume 5,000 ORAC units per day to effectively fight free radicals in the body. Sadly, most of us average around 1,200 units per day. Not nearly enough to protect us from the common ciseases of aging.

 

One of the best sources of antioxidants are berries and fruits. Most of us would have a very hard time eating the large amounts necessary to reach 5,000 ORAC units per day. For this reason, high ORAC supplements have been created. They contain berry and fruit extracts with a known ORAC rating. These supplements are inexpensive and provide many health benefits to your entire body and brain. Many people use these supplements as part of an anti-aging program. Keeping your cells from being destroyed goes a long way to staying healthy and young.

Some words about anti-aging and disease prevention

The aging process is for the greater part no mystery anymore. It consists for a great part of daily damages done on the macroscopic, tissue, cellular and genetic levels. These add up as the years are passing. These damages have specific causes like oxidating agents, sun beams, mechanical wear and tear, psychological stress, lack of some nutritional components and too much of others, like fat.

 

The above mention aging causes also slow down this repair process.

 

The factors causing aging, also causes other diseases like cancer and coronary heart disease. Both aging and these diseases can in great extend be prevented with the knowledge possessed today, and the damages can in great extend be reversed. The components to achieve this are:

-Adequate dayly food containing whole cereals, peas, beans, vegetables, fruit, fish, mushroms, fouls and seafood, and with just a moderate amount of red meat.

-Just a moderate amount of fat and most of the fat supply comming from sources like olive, fish, nuts, sun-flower, etc. Then you will get a good balance between mono-unsaturated fat (olive), poly-unsaturated fat of the omaga-3-type (fish) and poly-unsaturated fat of the omega-6-type.

 

-Just a very moderate amount of butter, soya oil, corn oil and palm oil. A high consumption of these fat sources gives you too much saturated fat and poly-unsaturated omega-6-fat.

-Just a very moderate amount of sugar, refined flour or refined cereals.

-Supplements of specific nutritional components like vitamins, minerals, lecitin and some essential fatty acids.

-Adequate training, that both gives both a muscular load, work up your condition and stretches out your body. To stretch out, yoga-exercizes are ideal.

 

-Adequate rest and stress-reduction. Daily meditation is a method of achieving this. Natural relaxing agents or spesific tools for meditation or relaxation may also be useful.

-Supplements of specific anti-aging agents like anti-oxidants or human growth hormone.

-Use of spesific anti-aging agents to apply upon the skin surface.

-To protect the skin against excessive sun exposure.

The amount one needs of nutritional supplements, like vitamins and minerals, differs very much according to a person`s health condition, work load and exposure to environmental stress. A person having a poor digestion, doing high performance sport or being exposed to a high amount of environmental stressors, may need more than an person in an average situation.
