Health Care Advice
Asthma is when you cannot control your breathing. You are wheezing and have a dry cough, as well as, tightness in the chest and shortness of breath. This is because the air passageways to the lungs are narrowed. This can be brought on from tightening of muscles, inflammation and swelling. Asthma is usually triggered by an allergy or activities that irritate the lungs.
As you know when you are having an allergy attack, your airway will tightens up and you will have difficultly breathing. This can be even worse if you have asthma. Your chest will feel heavy and you will need to have oxygen support or an inhaler to make the airways open up for your lungs.
To help prevent or weaken your asthma attacks; you will need to do a lot of cleaning. It may be best to get an air filter that filters out the spores that found in a room. You will want to get rid of any dust that is lying around. Dust is triggers that can make you go into a full-blown asthma attack. You will need to make sure that you don't have any dust mites or bed bugs in your room, as well, as try to rid yourself of some of your harmful food allergens.
This is a way to help reduce an asthma attack from a food allergen. You may also want to clean your air condition and heat runs. You can have this professionally done and it will reduce the mold spores and pollen that is in the air. You may want to ask your doctor about your allergies if you are asthmatic. You should make your doctor away of any allergens you think you develop, but it's especially important if you are asthmatic.
If you have known allergies and you are asthmatic, make sure that you go through the precautions of cleaning and avoiding certain areas and activities that will trigger your asthma. Inhalers and injections can help you stay calm while in an asthma attack.

Allergy, asthma, dermatology
As you know there are different types of allergy symptoms. Once of the symptoms would be a rash. This is when you might want to get a dermatologist's opinion. Dermatology is the study of the human skin and blemishes. Rashes are part of the dermatology world. If you get a rash from an allergy, then it should go away by itself over a couple days or so.
Sometimes, because you scratch, you will get an inflamed rash that needs medical care. This is when you might want to make an appointment with the doctor. Your doctor will give you a cream or anti-bacterial pill so the infection can be cleared up. You may want to ask your family doctor for a referral. Most dermatologists want a referral, because they are a specialist.
Once you get your prescription, you should follow the doctor's orders to the "t". If you do not follow his orders, then it is most likely that the bacterial infection will spread and that will be even more embarrassing.
You should never scratch a rash of any kind. Scratching rashes spread them and if will cause an infection because of the dirt and germs that are found underneath your fingernails. Since the germs on your hands are usually what cause the bacterial inflammation, you should watch your hands regularly and always before and after applying any creams. Taking good care of yourself is most likely part of the order's your doctor will give you.
Allergies that cause a rash are usually from touching or eating something that you shouldn't have. You should check with your doctor to see what exactly made you break out. It might be your fabric softener or the type of clothing you were wearing. It is best to avoid using that brand again or the type of fabric.
Each year hundreds of people die from food allergy and other allergies. Over 30,000 receive life-saving treatment in emergency rooms due to food-induced anaphylaxis. Out of all allergies, food allergy has got to be one of the most common, with an estimated 11 million people in the United States alone suffering from food allergies.
Once you see the doctor, you need to tell and show him or her where your rash is and explain what kind of allergy you had to cause such a reaction. He may even suggest to you a diet plan to flow so that you can avoid going through so much again.
The condition develops when the body’s immune system becomes misdirected. As a result, it suddenly sees and believes that harmless food proteins are, in fact, “harmful,” prompting them to attack.
When you have an allergic reaction after eating certain types of food, it means your immune system is responding to the substance perceived by the body as a harmful allergen. Massive amounts of antibodies are produced, binding with both the allergens and mast cells (a certain type of cell containing chemicals). When the antibodies come into contact with these mast cells, they alter the structure of its membranes, causing the various chemicals inside to leak out. One of the chemicals is histamine, which is a major player in inflammation of surrounding tissue.
The symptoms of food allergy could range from mildly inconvenient to uncomfortable to complete collapse of the body, a condition known as anaphylaxis. Many people have died or have been brought to emergency rooms as a result of anaphylaxis brought about by violent allergic reactions to certain types of food.
Common signs of food allergy include the following:
Typically, these symptoms appear within minutes or two hours after the person has eaten the food he or she is allergic to.
When talking about treatment for food allergy, the best method is avoidance. If you’re allergic to certain types of food, then you ought to practice strict avoidance of these foods. Food allergy is largely symptomatic, which means that whatever medications or treatment methods are available, they are usually to prevent the onset or for treatment of the symptoms.
Epinephrine, also called “adrenaline,” is the medication of choice for controlling severe reactions.
While any food can cause allergies, 90% of all food allergic reactions are caused by:
Peanut food allergy is one of the most common, serious, and potentially fatal food allergies. In a survey conducted by the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network, the prevalence of peanut allergy in both adults and children alike has doubled up over a period of five years. Peanuts are actually legumes but it is probably unnecessary to eliminate other legumes unless there is good reason to suspect that they cause problems or your doctor tells you to avoid them.
Egg-related food allergy is often mild. However, there are rare cases where egg can trigger anaphylaxis. Food labels must be thoroughly scrutinized for products containing egg or albumen. It should also be noted that well-cooked eggs (as in cakes) are generally harmless. But raw and lightly cooked eggs can cause allergic reactions.
There are several different types of allergy medication on the market today and they came come in several forms. These medications do have their own reactions that in return help relive you of your allergy embarrassment or pain. You need to ask your doctor about any suspicions you have about your behavior. If you think that you may have an allergy, consult your doctor immediately so he can prescribe you something of comfort.
You may want to make a list of things that could have caused you to have reaction so that you will be able to pinpoint your triggers. You can make a list of everything that you can remember eating and going to the labels or ingredients of the products and find something similar that may have caused your attack.
As for the medication, you have three different forms of medication. The three forms are pills, creams, and injections. A pill is usually prescribed to those who have air-borne allergies like tree or flower pollens. You can also use a pill for your dust and mold allergies. You will need to use a cream, if you have a reaction that causes a rash. Many things like pet dander and fabrics like wool could cause this. Rashes can be quite embarrassing and uncomfortable and you should seek treatment as soon as possible. It is frowned upon to scratch. You can scratch, but the dirt or bacteria under your nails will cause an infection of your skin. The infection will cause the skin to become even more inflamed.
His is a worrisome treatment record at a time when more and more children and families are coming face-to-face with the dangers of peanut allergy,” said Anne Muñoz-Furlong, CEO and fonder of FAAN. “Families must be instructed to seek the advice of their doctor, have a written emergency plan in place and never delay seeking treatment when a reaction occurs. The results can be deadly.”
As for injections, they are usually prescribed to people who can have deadly allergenic attacks. This is for people who are allergic to food or maybe even bee stings. This allows a person to receive treatment within seconds. The medicine is injected into the bloodstream and this allows the medication to work much faster. This will help your air-passageways to loosen up and your breathing to become back to normal. The medication will help you slowly with your attack.
Whatever form of allergy medicine you are prescribed, you should keep the medicine on your at all times. This is especially good for those with food allergies so you can receive an antidote as quickly as possible.
As a member of the legume family, peanut is actually not a “nut” but a legume, directly related to beans. A peanut allergy is one of the most common food allergies because the proteins found in peanuts can act as powerful allergens, even when ingested in tiny amounts.
Increase in Prevalence of Peanut Allergy
According to the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN), a recent study shows that incidents of peanut allergy in children are rapidly growing, prompting the need for vastly improved standards of care and greater public education. The study, published in the December 2003 issue of Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (JACI), revealed that the incidents of peanut allergy in children doubled over a five-year period.
Researchers from the David Hide Asthma and Allergy Research Centre in the Isle of Wight, United Kingdom, tested 1,273 children born between September 1, 1994 and August 31, 1996. A questionnaire, completed by the parents, were used to seek information on past and current atopic symptoms such as asthma, hay fever, and eczema, as well as specific questions relating to food allergy, including peanut allergy, and any anaphylactic reactions. This was then followed by a skin prick test to determine if there is positive response to peanut.
To determine a possible increase in prevalence, the results of the study were compared to a similar study from 1989.
The result showed that out of 1,246 children, 3.3% (41 children) had a positive response to peanut during the skin prick test. This is definitely higher compared with the positive response rate of 1.1% in the 1989 study. In addition, children who tested positive to peanut allergy showed a high level of atopy, which is the genetic tendency to develop allergy and asthma symptoms.
Based on the responses from the questionnaire, there was also an increase in reported peanut allergy, from 0.5% to 1.0%.
Cause and Treatment
Scientists believed that there are several reasons for this, including:
The study also showed that subjects experienced severe (79%) and frequent reactions (66%) from peanut allergy. However, despite this severity and frequency, the study found that only 74% of children and 44% of adults sought medical evaluation. Additionally, of those that did seek medical treatment, less than one half were prescribed epinephrine, the drug of choice to control a potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.
According to FAAN, peanut allergy is responsible for nearly 100 deaths and 15,000 visits to emergency rooms – about half the deaths and emergency room visits caused by all food allergies.
People should pay more attention to peanut allergy if they want to avoid endangering the lives of their children.
